I think the simple reason is that CoD4 is simply too graphically advanced for the Wii. There wasn't a PS2 version either.
david.dakota Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 Personally, i'd prefer an exclusive Call of Duty for Wii. Xbox 360 and PS3 owners will obviously be drawn their respective releases - a new setting, exlsusive for Wii, would be very desirable indeed.

The fact is that Activision announced also the new James Bond game for all the platforms(including Wii) which using the CoD4 engine. If a company wants to port a game,they port it. I feel screwed about the whole series.I bought the first 3 games on Nintendo platforms and I got the shaft with 4. Now,they expect from me to buy again their product missing entirely the 4th installment?

No that won't happen, but it's safe to assume there are to teams of developers working on this game/s: - One team focusing on the 360/PS3/PC versions - One team on the Wii/PS2 version. We'll be getting a superior version of the PS2 game [one would imagine].

The 360, PS3 and PC user bases combined are far, far larger than the Wii's, it simply wouldn't be worth IW's time to port it to Wii alone. That is without considering the percentage of the Wii's user base that would actually buy Call Of Duty 4 on Wii (so remove everyone who isn't interested in the game and everyone who bought it on another platform). So why not make a PS2 port as well? Time. Activision wanted Infinity Ward to churn out a Call Of Duty game every year, Infinity Ward said they couldn't do it. They NEED a 2 year gap, they aren't the sort of studio to rush things. There is no way they would be able to make two builds of a Call Of Duty game at the same time and still release within 2 years! The only way Call Of Duty 4 would ever find it's way to Wii and PS2 is if another developer handled the port, otherwise it isn't going to happen. Infinity Ward can't spare the time. Maybe Activision will have Treyarch port it :p The fact is that Activision announced also the new James Bond game for all the platforms(including Wii) which using the CoD4 engine. It's also for PS2 though, right? So the Wii will be getting an enhanced PS2 version (as usual). Handling the CoD4 engine does not mean it can handle CoD4 quality visuals.

They appear to have taken a quote from Activision's CEO and guessed he was talking about Call Of Duty 4 - to me it sounds like he was saying the company will be launching COD 5 on all the platforms it has worked on recently. I'm probably wrong, but I can't see COD 4 coming to the Wii so late.

The fish Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 How very odd. Gamespot reported this as on the PS2 and not in WWII, whilst everything else I've seen Activision and Treyarch say it's PS3, Wii, and 360 only, and still in WWII.

I'm hoping it'll simply be the pacific war. And I don't get what people have against COD3, the single player isn't quite as good as 2 or 4 (still good), but the multiplayer rules. Either way, it'll be shit on the Wii.
