Dan_Dare Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Right, I just found a facebook app that lets you play the awesome boardgame Diplomacy over the interweb. the premise and rules are simple: the year is 1900 and the major european powers are contesting for power. By negotiating with other players to form alliances you have to try and take over the majority of the map. gameplay wise it's a bit like Risk, only no dice = no chance, all skill. if anyone's interested, get it downloaded, post here and we'll get a game started. we need 7 per game so sign up!
Shorty Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Iirc (*does a quick search*) Supergrunch linked to an online version of Diplomacy back when The Fish made a thread about Online Risk. This is the link http://www.stabbeurfou.org/ If you wanted to play without Facebook.... (I'm not interested, personally).
Supergrunch Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I learnt how to play this game yesterday and would like to have a go... shall we go with facebook or the other thingy?
Mundi Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Yeah I´m up for this. Because it´s a facebook thing I need to make my own facebook account right? (Don´t have one)
The fish Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I'm interested, but have never played - I'll read up on the rules later, and get myself wiped out early on.
Supergrunch Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I registered as Supergrunch on stabbeurfou, and also added a Facebook Diplomacy application. The rules I read were these ones, which seemed relatively comprehensive.
The fish Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 The facebook app. has a visualisation, which is good for those of us who don't own a board - I propose we go with that.
Supergrunch Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 (edited) Right, I've created a Facebook game called N-E diplomats, and the password is Supergunch. I'll try and invite people, it might help to add me on Facebook. Edited October 18, 2014 by Supergrunch
Mundi Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Just created a Facebook account, waiting for my confirmation mail
The fish Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I'm in. How do we choose nations, or is it random? I've just read the rules, and it's pretty simple.
Supergrunch Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I'm in. How do we choose nations, or is it random? I've just read the rules, and it's pretty simple. No idea, maybe we get to choose once we've gathered 7 players. I want to be Russia, but I'm not too bothered.
Mundi Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Anymore vacancies? It starts when 7 people have signed, currently 3 have signed.
Dan_Dare Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 Ok I'm in. Fuck, I love Diplomacy. This is going to rock so incredibly hard.
Dan_Dare Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 yeah. Man, I hope i get england. I've not been them before. Also, i pity whoever gets Austria. It's probably going to be me.
The fish Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 As I'm a noob, can I have Turkey, if we get a choice. It seems easy to defend...
jayseven Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I'll sign up/join the group. Forgive me if I suck :P EDIT: Reminds me a bit of isle-wars.. not surprising seeing as isle wars is based to some degree on risk. Now to find the facebook app! EDITAGAIN: this is the right app, right?
Dan_Dare Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 quick note: I'm in another game atm that just started and countries were decided on random. i just logged back on and I was France automatically. I just reeeally don't want to be Austria. anyone else I reckon I can manage fine but it's so difficult being them- you need a silver tongue of the gods to survive.
MoogleViper Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 In another game I am.... ...wait for it... ...AUSTRIA!!! :p
Dan_Dare Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 It's doable, just make some clever alliances and be ready to move on anyone looking weak to grab land where you can. Also, go for dominating the balkans.
Supergrunch Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Incidentally, it seems that there's no option for draws in this implementation, which someone was complaining about. It looks like it won't matter all that much, provided people try to stop whoever's winning.
MoogleViper Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I'm not bothered about winning I just wanted to get the hang of it.
