Chris the great Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 was deciding what else i need in my level, im adding two more floors, a creature fighting stage and a exlosive blast to the top floor. dont think i'll put a boss there, but im going to make it the first in a seise of conected levels, so once my level is finnished, i'll add in a little story, some decoration and im done, first level complete. when i look at it, you can see it was bassicly a training ground for me as a designer, ive used alot of different tools to get similar effects, and a blatent over use of sting for swinging. i love swinging.
flameboy Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/02/09/flower-out-on-psn-this-week-go-behind-the-scenes-now/ Great behind the scenes. Game is getting loads of good press. Cant wait. wrong thread me thinks....
kyletherobot Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Just got my first LBP level uploaded. It's ok I think, although I probably wouldn't be that impressed if someone else made it. Anyway, hit me up and have a play please. Tell me what you think but most of all, heart me! My PSN ID is in my sig.

That Guy Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Well and truly fed up with this game now. I have bits in my level that keep breaking the entire thing. I have a jet pack that keeps falling off the wall and then the entire floor starts shaking and bits move and fall over. It's stuck down, I made sure of it. Then I moved it and the same happened to the floor. The I made sure the floor was stuck down to some dark matter. But when I moved it some fire stuff at the bottom of a slope has moved. Went to move that but for some reason trying to move that moves the entire fecking ground. I can't even be arsed with it anymore.
dwarf Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 ^ Unlucky that sort of thing happens to me. Haven't played it in ages though. Basically don't stick objects too often, bolt them instead.
Chris the great Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Yeah keep objects seperate as possible using dark matter for example. Sticking things makes you run out of memory and complexity quickly too as it can lump objects as one. indeed, thats what i took as my big lesson from level design one, fo far through to fix it now thoughi think this is gonna be my free time game, one i play when ive got nothing new. creativity takes a back seat to new games :p.
dwarf Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 It's funny/sad to think how close so many creators may have come to creating something mindblowingly good, only to have it come unstuck with malfunctions or loss of data. I feel sorry for them, because even when I make something below par and it goes wrong, I still get frustrated.
dwarf Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 ^ Yeah you just say to yourself that this is what you're going to do and at the end you realise that you haven't actually achieved anything or you have spent loads of time on it. It's the drawback of a game mainly focused on creating - you realise why professionals have to make these games.
david.dakota Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 Out of interest, how long do User Generated levels take to download- say at a measly 1meg connection?
Chris the great Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 just put my first level up, im pretty pleased with it, it was only ever ment to be a test of the whole create function, but check it out if you get the chance, its called "temple adventure!"
Chris the great Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 excelent, ive had like 11 people play it! already thinking about my next effort, currently looking around for ideas to ste... incorperate.
dwarf Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 You see my comment? I thought it was the typical sort of first level with random stickers and a beginning where you have to swing, but it all worked well. All you need to do now is theme your levels and add some sort of uniqueness.

dwarf Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Uncharted special addition. Hmmm... I think a Nathan Drake figurine would be pretty cool tbh, not really any other games I would want one for really. They could do a LBP code for stuff but I don't think they'd package that in a spec ed.
Chris the great Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 id have loved a prince of persia outfit for sack boy. any one else want a new level pack to come out? the mgs one was great. guess we can always make our own
dwarf Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I don't want to pay for any more content. Whilst there are some genuinely brilliant ideas I've seen I really don't want to have to pay for anything, especially because I don't really play the game much now after losing data.
Aimless Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 All the LBP content for this month has been pencilled in at the PlayStation.Blog and come the end of April I can definitely see myself getting back into the creation aspect, namely thanks to this: April 23rd (provisional): Creator Pack 1: FREE A collection of new tools and functions to help aspiring creators: - Infinite lives checkpoint - Visibility tweak option on certain joint objects (to hide these in Play mode) - Global settings object (to trigger lighting changes) - Tetherless jetpack - Angle range proximity switch (additional functionality on proximity and magnetic key switches) It might not sound like a big deal, but being able to change lighting mid-level opens up a lot of possibilities in my mind. Similarly I like to hide all the mechanics behind what I build, so being able to tidy things up a bit more is always welcome.
dwarf Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I want to create stuff in it so badly but there's no way of skipping Stephen Fry and his unneccessarily long tutorials. Plus taking game saves and using them on your own console barely works because for some crappy reason Sony stops it.
tapedeck Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I'd love to do an uncharted tribute level. I did : peace:
Chris the great Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 my new level is comign along nicly. I had planned to make it a big fantasy adventure, with several different big scenes but ive used about 1/3 of the games allowence of stuff and have really just started, i may have to make it a serise rather then one big level. currently building a dragon for it, got him sorted outher then his head, and i may add wings later on, we shall see.
Chris the great Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 i could do with some people to collect the rest of my prize bubbles with. also, my new level is getting good. im gonna give the dragon i made away with it, so hope you all play and earn it!
