Falcon_BlizZACK
Can I just ask, do people class games which score less then an 8 as bad or something? Would you not buy a game which scores a 7.9 because you think it's mediocre. Not really, but I'm sure we would all agree that a game with average review scores of 9/10 is in theory better than a 8/10 game. Games coming from companies like Capcom (a RE game) and a joint effort from Nintendo and Sega (a sonic and mario game) have the potential to make no question 9/10 games, but I feel these opportunities have been wasted due to not putting enough time or effort or imagination into their recently released games. Fierce_LiNk
And which games would these be? Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles? Which, as many reviews and gamers themselves have said, is different to both past RE games and on-rails shooters. It's something new and different. Or Super Mario Galaxy? Which, I don't think I need to say anything about. The quality speaks for itself. Or do you mean Mario and Sonic at the Olympics? Whilst it isn't perfect, it is one of the best games out there for its genre.

c0Zm1c
But surely, before you do play it (and BUY it), you would like to know how well it has been generally recieved? It's a good reference I suppose, particularly for new IP's or games from developers that I'm not familiar with, etc. However, something like Mario Galaxy, or Metroid Prime 3, I would have bought regardless of the reviews. To me you just put your standards too high, a 9.0 isn't just something that happens when a company feels like it. Making a quality game takes alot more then putting in time and money, it takes that bit of luck or that little something that makes the whole thing work. I mean look at Zack and Wiki and RE:UC. There's no doubt RE:UC had a larger budget and more senior team developing it, but Zack and Wiki ended up being 'in theory' a better game. It's just how it works out I guess. To give credit to Mario and Sonic, the market it's aiming for, (casuals and non gamers) it's probably the most comprehensive and 'pick up and playable' minigames collection on the console. Yeah, it's disappointing their first game together wasn't a platform (I guess, I don't see it working personally), but for what it was trying to do I'd say it was an extremely good game. I'm looking forward to seeing how things pan out in 2008 anyway, most companies who set out to make good games for the Wii started their developement cycles in 2007, meaning nothing released yet has had a year under developement. Time shall tell 0_o.

Wow, you've given two decent exclusive games... I bash the PS3 because I don't think it has anything going for it. It's exclusives have been underwhelming, it's brought nothing new to gaming, it's over priced and some of it's highest scoring games are (worse) versions of multi-platform titles also appearing on the 360 (with superior online) and the PC. c0Zm1c
I thought Motorstorm was great, especially online, and R&C is good. But I'd be lying if I said I haven't been somewhat disappointed with the PS3 overall so far. I'm really looking forward to Little Big Planet though, more so than most games. Actualy given that you get a Blu Ray player the PS3 is really cheap in comparison. Look at the price of standalone Blu Ray players. Expensive yes, overpriced no. McPhee
The PS3 is great value, it does a hell of a lot for £300. Games console + blu ray player + media streaming + web browsing + linux pc. Overpriced? Hardly. When the big releases start coming out it will be a cracking unit

I have to say that your optimistic approach always puts me at ease when I reflect upon it...I'm looking forward to 2008 too actually. I was hammered out my face when I posted that, I don't even remember typing it :P. Amazed my typing holds up in those circumstances :S. Anywho, we'll see how things go in 2008. I'm already pretty satisfied but should have more free time over Christmas to catch up on the games I've missed. There's definitely some pretty interesting announcements for games in 2008 from what I've heard anyway. I don't see myself as so much of an optimist more so then a realist, either :P. The PS3 is great value, it does a hell of a lot for £300.Games console + blu ray player + media streaming + web browsing + linux pc. Overpriced? Hardly. When the big releases start coming out it will be a cracking unit If you have a use for every feature it comes packed with then it's an incrediblly priced unit at great value. On the other hand, if you don't care about media streaming or Blu-Ray movies, why should I have to pay for things which ramp the cost up, but I don't have a use for. I'll probably get one for summer though, provided Socom Confrontation lives up to my expectations and some of my clan mates get them. I'm not too sure if there's any point though, seeing as I go to Uni in September... hum, decisions.
c0Zm1c
It's only great value if you want all the things it can do. For a games console it is overpriced, or at least was when I bought mine, back in March for £425! In a way I'm glad I did buy it then though, since the model out now is lacking some functions, namely backwards compatability. I use my PS3 for DVD playback, a role it took over when my 360 red ringed earlier this year, so that increases its value a little for me. But I don't use it for web browsing because the interface is terrible, and I don't need it for media streaming or Linux.
dazzybee
Yeah likecosmic said the PS3 is only good value if I dont want to use it for them things!!!! Firstly I would guess most of us use our PCs/macs/laptops to browse the net, secondly the Wii's broswer is better. As for the media stuff, bullshit, not interested at all, I want my games machines to play games. The bluray player is the BEST thing about the PS3 actually, for me its a bluray player that plays some games too I still feel the PS3 will END UP being a really good console, but at the minute I wouldnt buy a single game for it! Not one. Though when Little Big Planet Comes Out.......Hmmmmm.

Agreed, expect it won;t have Goldeneye, Mario 64 or all of the good games the N64 had! Obviously won't, but MGS4 alone is looking like something TRULY spectacular even though I dislike the PS3. FF13 can't be one to miss also. Then there are the generic port games like Devil May Cry and GTA, that will NEVER grace the Wii.
