Paj! Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Well no, I just read that out of morbid interest. Lower on my list of things that I actually will read eventually.
Munch Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Boink! I just wanted to show you guys my 'Collection'.
ReZourceman Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Niiiiiiiiiiiiice. Always good to see multiple Image love. Your next purchase (Chew : Omnivore Edition) will fit nicely with those.
Dan_Dare Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I think some shelf porn action is required, gents. Do it. I'll join in soon as I finish my dissertation and Sort My Life Out. What's in that Chew edition Rez?
Munch Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I have actually been eyeing that up. It's volume 1&2 in hardback.
ReZourceman Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I can't really do shelf porn, but the ones I can easily see or access are below. Apart from this there's another gigantic tray box under the bead, another medium box under bed and the rest (Full run of Ultimate Spider-Man up until the more recent stuff, full run Thunderbolts, basically anything pre-about 3-4 years ago is in the shed) Its a pretty gargantuant collection. I'll show it properly when I've moved out. Currently reading/the last 7 weeks or so stack. Completely random Dynamo 5 at the top/completely random rest. Invincible's/Avengers/Randoms (all those boxes) Wolf-Man and other randoms Randoms.
Paj! Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I love your Mongul action figure. Yessss. BAAAD photos since my camera is elsewhere, but... I can't get this to rotate...it's the right way on photobucket. I generally have an order based on property/series, but sometimes Aesthetics in out, so Morrison's JLA had to go at the start, rather than with my other JLA/JSA stuff. It goes Batman (and related), Superman (and related), DC Teams, and then Seven Soldiers and Final Crisis. Animal Man is after that as he bridges the gap between normal DC and Vertigo. Then Invisibles and We3 for Vertigo comics, and then my DC bit ends with DC vs. Marvel. Then it's Avengers (and related), Daredevil and Spidey, and then X-Men up till the end. Fantastic Four was after Avengers, but again aesthetics. 1602 is after X-Men related, beside my lone non Dc and Marvel stuff. Various encyclopedias and Comic Book Tattoo by Image (my BIGGEST graphic novel) bookend it all. EDIT: @ReZ, I feel so sorry for you having to box it all away. I love having all mine on display. Sure you have way more, but still.
gmac Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I'll have to sort out my shelves before I take any pictures! I can thoroughly recommend the Chew Hardcover, not only is it a quality comic, but it's been put together really well - it contains the first 10 issues including covers, has some sketches, the original pitch that Layman put to Image before he even had an artist, the first page that Guillory drew for Layman (which Layman didn't like and almost got a new artist!), it's even got the ribbon bookmark only downside is the number of fingerprints you leave on the outside cover as there's no dust jacket!
ReZourceman Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 FFS gmac. I didn't even plan on getting it and now I want it. :p
Paj! Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 (edited) So, Loeb's Hulk run with Ed McGuinness comes to an end. I enjoyed it, for what it was. However, I read it once it was almost all out, not over the course of a painful 2 years, so yeah. It was satisfyingly comic booky, and I liked the recent crossovers with Incredible Hulk. And McGuinness' art is very chunky and round and pleasing. Loeb is best (nowadays) when he's not trying to be too clever or "cool". That said, this hasn't been a run of particular note. Now I'm looking foward to Red Hulk joining the Avengers...they set it up decently at the end of 24, but I wanna see how he fits (or doesn't) on the team. Other thoughts on this weeks comics Fraction is an alright Uncanny X-Men writer, his issues just feel very unsatisfying until the "big finish". And Whilce Portacio's art is horrible. It's like a sketchy version of what he meant to do, and inconsistantly stylised, which is a big no-no. Turns out he used to be a lot better in the 90's. JSA/JLA is still entertaining, if inessential. Lol at Jadesidian. Thought Secret Avengers was cool, as was New Avengers. I think Immonen's art makes New Avengers though. Love it. I still can't bear Spidey and Wolvey on both main Avengers teams. Ashley Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Angel is heading back over to Dark Horse so it seems more Buffy/Angel crossovers will be taking place during season nine (apparently late 2011) Buffyfest: Will we see Buffy in Angel's book or Angel in Buffy's? What about secondary characters such as Connor or Illyria interacting in Buffy's book? Scott Allie: Yep, yep. Can't give you specifics, but what you're talking about is sort of the point. Think early Marvel universe. This will be the Buffyverse. Sounds kind of interesting, although I gave up on Buffy season eight years ago.
EEVILMURRAY Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I was going to post this in the Dan Dare thread, but since it's full of shit and too far back I'll slam it here. Noticed it my local comic/card game shop. Anything endorsed by Sir Richard Branson is worth a look. I would've opened it for a flickthrough but as you can tell it's sealed.
Paj! Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I wasn't even aware they were with different publishers. I didn't like the Angel comic so stopped...I'm a few issues behind on Buffy Season 8...it was rubbish, got decent, then this last storyline was really "..." and just made no sense to me. I haven't read any of the "Twilight" story yet though.
Ashley Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Yeah Angel has been on IDW for a few years. Since his season six started at least, and I think before that. I believe the first part was overseen by Joss then handed on to someone else. And I think all of season eight has been about Twilight essentially, but its picked up and dropped at different points.
Paj! Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Yeah, but the current arc is actually titled "Twilight" IIRC. I stopped after the one they go visit Oz in wherever and they RIDICULOUSLY decide never to use magic in case Twlight and his evil gang can track them via like magic signals or something. So they just decide to fight a war without magic? Unless I missed something...I got a bit sick of it. And the undefinitive art pissed me off.
Munch Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 CLiNT... Will anyone be getting this? I am gonna subscribe to it to get it delivered. I'll go with the 3 month option and see if it's any good. But the reason I bring it up is because I just realised and I wondered if anyone else wondered why they called it CLiNT, I thought about what it could be an acronym for but then I squinted my eyes and looked at it from further away, it looks like it says C*nt (the worst swear word ever!). This was probably obvious to everyone except me, I didn't see it before and now I can't stop seeing the word C*nt lol
ReZourceman Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I'll definitely get it probably. At least the first issue. Gotta support it really.
Paj! Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Yeah, I'm definitely going to get it. Sounds brilliant. There's not enough focus on comic books over here, which is bizarre since so much big comics talent in from the UK/Scottish.
Munch Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 You know they are taking submissions for 4-5 page spreads each month, what an amazing way to get exposure if you can get in it. I think anyone with an interest in comics is going to look into this mag, seeing it as supporting the industry as rez said.
Paj! Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I loved that aspect of it...I suppose you might have to have some sort of...CV or something, but feels stunning knowing if you try hard enough you could write or draw a little story to go in. I might write something. (Since I can't draw comicy stuff very well...strangely. I'm only ever decent when drawing from life)
ReZourceman Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Invincible 74 preview. Having waited like 7 weeks or whatever, I can wait another. But anyway;; http://uk.comics.ign.com/articles/111/1114674p1.html
Paj! Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 The best comic I've ever read, the out of print (as in, never to be collected in trade form) Flex Mentallo is on eBay for £41. I'm so scared, it was £18 last night. I said I'd like it was a birthday present from my parents, which justifies it. Plus it's not like I'm buying like 4 issues of some fucking shitty thing you can get reprints of for the sake of collectability. I NEED these 4 issues. If it kills me.
