Happenstance Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I assume its probably his Loki stuff that got him the book. Either way I doubt i'll read it, Thor has never interested me.
Paj! Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Is anyone else reading Ultimate Spider-Man still? While the art is of-putting just due to the shift in tone, this current story is really good. Much more interesting than that Mysterio one. I can't even remember what happened in that one. But yeah, the art is technically really good, but it's so jarring compared to Bagley. I'm gonna start the current Batgirl series, and also read Morning Glories.
ReZourceman Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Yeah, Spidey is very good at the moment, BUT its been like...what 16 issues or something and we havn't had a proper proper villain type fight story arc. Mysterio was MEH, this new Chameleon one is AWESOME, but its not a fight blah blah. I want a proper super hero throwdown, and the book is just a comedy drama at the moment.
Happenstance Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Yep im still reading USM despite the annoying art as I still think Bendis' writing seems perfectly suited to the book and the stories hes coming out with. I loved the last panel of the latest issue. Good to see your giving Morning Glories and Batgirl a try Paj. Im really looking forward to more MG and im gonna order the first Batgirl trade next week.
Dante Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 (edited) Batwoman To say anticipation has been high for the launch of the new BATWOMAN series would be an understatement. The character of Kate Kane instantly connected with fans, and her initial solo adventures in DETECTIVE COMICS (which you can read in the BATWOMAN: ELEGY HC – see what I did there?) cemented the character as a lasting part of the DC Universe and the cultural landscape. Not only was she the first major gay DC superhero, she was a compelling and unique character. A lot of that goes back to the source material, namely the story crafted by ELEGY writer Greg Rucka and the beautiful, lush work of artist J.H. Williams III. And, as we announced in this very space not long ago, Batwoman’s story would continue in the pages of her own series, co-written by Williams and W. Haden Blackman and featuring alternating artistic arcs from Williams and Amy Reeder. Well, now we’ve got some details to go with that news. This November, fans will see BATWOMAN #0, a one-shot primer that brings together the new creative team for a special tale that sets the tone for the upcoming ongoing series, which will hit in February 2011. The #0 issue features an artistic collaboration in the truest sense, as both Williams and Reeder will be splitting the work on almost every page, and working off a script from Blackman and Williams. As previously revealed, the ongoing series will kick off with Williams on art duties for the first arc, followed by Reeder. “BATWOMAN #0 has been a great experience in that it’s a real combination of everyone’s efforts due to the nature of the story and how it’s constructed. It has been a real pleasure.,” Williams said. “This special ‘bridge’ issue straddles between what came before and what is to come, but manages to be it’s own unique thing. It’s unusual construction allows two threads of content to run simultaneously, building to a greater whole, hopefully creating an interesting reading experience.” “The element I’m most excited about with our run of BATWOMAN is the way we’re trying to balance the big action with a more personal story. This has been a challenge because we didn’t want to just have one action-oriented plotline for Batwoman and a separate personal story for Kate Kane — we’ve really tried to weave the two together, and show how one impacts the other,” Blackman said. “The first arc is very much a superhero horror story, but we’re hoping the horror elements are made even scarier because it’s all happening to characters the reader cares about. “The #0 was very rewarding to write because it re-introduces Batwoman through the eyes of Batman. It gave us a chance to compare and contrast Batwoman with a character everyone knows very well — and I think that it’s all the ways she is different from Batman that make her a really compelling and honest character.” And Amy does a nice job of summing the whole shebang up: “BATWOMAN #0 is going to be stellar. J.H. and Haden’s script is very cool and it’s set up in a way that’s truly meant for collaboration. What a great project to be involved in!” Indeed. Stay tuned for a few more news items this week and next. Edited August 13, 2010 by Dante
Paj! Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 New series, "She Hulks" starts in November. It's a shame Red She-Hulk won't be there, I love her. But then World War Hulks hasn't finished yet, maybe she dies/forsakes being great.
Paj! Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Press Release Harrison Wilcox...never heard of him/her?
ReZourceman Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 All I can find is that he wrote the Heroes graphic novels.
Happenstance Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Apparently hes written some of World War Hulks as well
Paj! Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 (edited) I just the first 4 issues of Batgirl, it's pretty good. And quite funny too. When she realising the bag she rescues from a mugger is her mum's, so she just throws it at her rather than hand it over personally. And her fight with Livewire was funny too. EDIT: Okay, this is great! The interaction with Robin is brilliant. I actually lol'd when he's on his bike, and says "Thanks god I don't have that dreadful shrew holding me back.." and then Batgirl appears in that insane Batpod thing, and she says "I'm a what now?!". I love. Edited August 14, 2010 by Paj!
ReZourceman Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Wolf-man was good. Next issue should be pretty spectacular. Picked up these sick as fuck light up GL rings. God they're awesome.
Paj! Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 That's quite fun but one of those things you buy then realise 10 minutes later, "...now what?". Unless you had a whole troop of people planning to dress up as different lanterns. Then it would stun.
ReZourceman Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 They will definitely get used in that context also.
Happenstance Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Any chance they are all real and you could become a Lantern?
ReZourceman Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I hope so, but I'll need to check. Just read Morning Glories. Was pretty awesome. -------- Emerald Warriors was awesome!!!! I have a question though the dude at the end is. Is it a new character?
Happenstance Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I didnt know either but I was listening to the Comic Geek Speak podcast and they were wondering if its Despero as apparently hes just gone through a metamorphosis but it was only a guess.
Coolness Bears Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I've been ReZquested to post in this thread. So I'd like inform you that I've started reading the X-men since I've not really read comics properly before I thought I'd start where they were first created in the 60's to get a feel for how it started out like and how it changes over the years. These issues are hilarious. The Vanisher's evil plans to give america's weapon plans to Russia made me lol. I'm currently on Issue 4.
ReZourceman Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 COOLNESS IS VIEWING THE THREAD! HE's gonna tell us which X-men comic he's been reading. ------- I am liking Ultimate Avengers 3 and particularly the character of Ray Connor. I've been ReZquested to post in this thread. So I'd like inform you that I've started reading the X-men since I've not really read comics properly before I thought I'd start where they were first created in the 60's to get a feel for how it started out like and how it changes over the years. Vanisher Heroclix is funny with his high movement phasing.
Happenstance Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I applaud you Coolness for starting at the beginning. Ive various 60s books but I can never get past the cheesiness and dull colouring. I dont know if you listen to podcasts at all but theres one called "The Uncanny X-Cast" which is doing the same thing as you, starting from the beginning and chatting about them.
Coolness Bears Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 It is cheesy in everyway especially when they are out of costume. Plus I didn't realise Jean Grey was originally called Marvel Girl. The Vanisher is ugly but not as much as the Blob who annoyed me. Ooh, I shall check out "The Uncanny X-Cast" thanks for the heads up. I do listen to podcasts if they are interesting/funny. Like 1up used to be.
Happenstance Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I really should try and read complete runs of comics I like, a lot of it is down to my dislike of older art styles and colouring that was used back then. I do have the complete Amazing Spider-Man collection on a couple of CDs. Shame they're PDFs and not cbr files.
Paj! Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 P.S X-Men is fairly shite until 1975 relaunch with Giant-Size X-Men. That's when these stunners were introduced/the stories got decent. You can get these issues in digest form very cheap, I have the first 3 volumes of it, it's worth a read.
