Jimjebus Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Computer i use now is about 4 years old, System Specs are failing most things. I guess this has a month left to live so when i get new comp we have £700-£1000 to spend on a new one so i just wondering if anyone knows where to buy good computers. If i look at my computers specs written at front it says: 2800+ (2.08Ghz) AMD athlon-XP 512MB DDR 80GB Hard drive DVD DRIVE CD writer 48x ATI Radeon 9200 128mb video memory Thats the basic what says on front , see that seems old to me when i tried running ps2 games on my computer all this your card doesn't have pixel shader 2, So any one know what type of computer , where to get it from range of £700 - £1000. something that is good for all things today , games , internet , anything , which makes it faster for future things.
Caris Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Mate go to http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk and make your own, you won't find better value for money unless you build it yourself. Don't bother going quad, theres no support yet. Just get a Intel Core2 duo.
Slaggis Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Mate go to http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk and make your own, you won't find better value for money unless you build it yourself. pcoption.co.uk is actually cheaper than them (I've used them both), you choose your own options, like in the one Caris said, buts its just cheaper at pcoption. The service is awesome too.
Jimjebus Posted August 1, 2007 Author Posted August 1, 2007 Will take a look just tried dell pc's like my cousin told me to , and its all just gay , whats a duo processor compared to Quad processor
Guest Stefkov Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Quad's the latest. No idea what it is. Just checked out pcspecialist cos I'm bored. A tower with random thing I clicked then a thousand gig of HDD was £644. Wow.
Jimjebus Posted August 1, 2007 Author Posted August 1, 2007 i tried pc option thing and i got lost then found my way and its like yeah it will cost this much for all latest things £1300 when it saw half of stuff on pc world for 800
AshMat Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Then something's wrong there, PC World aren't that cheap.
Calza Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Just wondering I am looking at the pcoption website with a what looks to me like a really good pc for under £400 so what the hell are you planning to do anyway? Attempt to play Crysis full max or something?

Slaggis Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Just wondering I am looking at the pcoption website with a what looks to me like a really good pc for under £400 so what the hell are you planning to do anyway? Attempt to play Crysis full max or something? Exactly! Ant-Shimmin Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 If you have little experience in purchasing a PC.. I can only reccomend Dell....
The fish Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 pcoption.co.uk is actually cheaper than them (I've used them both), you choose your own options, like in the one Caris said, buts its just cheaper at pcoption. The service is awesome too. Wow, PC Option are pretty good. They don't include office software, printers or monitors (which PC Specialist do), but they may be cheaper without. I'll do some comparisons... Comparison...done! PC Option is the winner! However, PC Specialist also do laptops. I hate PC Option, I hate it! They're too damn cheap! And if you get an ATI card you get Stalker free! I don't want to buy one, but I may have to! Check this baby out: Intel® Core® 2 Duo. (6850 (3.00GHz, 4MB, 1333FSB) Case 19 - Xdiscovery - Black 600W 17 " Haans G Widescreen HW173D 8M/S Response 1 X Asus 2900XT/HTVDP/512MB Graphics 160GB Sata 2 Hard Drive 2048 DDR 2 667 MHz Vista Premium & Disc Standard 700 Watt PSU Asus P5ND2 SE Motherboard Motherboard All for £894.85 inc. AeroScap Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Search for my post on "Post my purchase" forum. Blistering PC (Duo core E6600, 8600GTS nvidia, 500gb HD, 2GB ram, a very handy card reader with built in bluetooth *perfect for my phone snaps*) ~600 pounds with 20" monitor and a MX rev logitech mouse. A complete package + I am loving the multimedia keyboard that came with the pc aswell. Dell gets the thumbs up from me.
Guest Jordan Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Wow, the Core 2 Duo E6850 is a great chip, how much did that set you back? Also, any reason why you got a Radeon HD over a 8800?
The fish Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Also, any reason why you got a Radeon HD over a 8800? I'll wait for the benchmark tests using actual DX10 games to come out, but I've heard the ATI cards are better than the nVidia's for it. I'll wait before I buy. Also, free copy of Stalker>free copy of GRAW, which I already have for the 360. And the 2900XT is cheaper than the 8800GTS or GTX Wow, the Core 2 Duo E6850 is a great chip, how much did that set you back? £100, same as the lowest Quad Core, which is, according to benchmarking tests, worse than the E6850.

Also, free copy of Stalker>free copy of GRAW, which I already have for the 360. STALKER was awful, imo. But you know, each to their own. And 'Actual' DX10 games are out, the 8800 is still winning and with the 9800 out in the next few months (hehe, ATi graphics card name) who knows if ATi can ever catch up again £100, same as the lowest Quad Core, which is, according to benchmarking tests, worse than the E6850. Fuck! My E6600 was like, £150 last April. Eventual upgrade for me...

I may go for the 8800, but it depends on the price/power balance, and I don't really know how to overclock stuff, which could be handy. I've heard that the 8800GTS can be overclocked massively.
McPhee Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 £100, same as the lowest Quad Core, which is, according to benchmarking tests, worse than the E6850. Holyest Cow! Where!?!?!
Slaggis Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Holyest Cow! Where!?!?! PCOPTION.CO.UK When you "build" a PC, the lowest quad core costs 102 quid.
McPhee Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Ah, i see now. Its £102 more than the default chip then, you had me thinking you could actually buy them at £102 each! I was away to buy 2 just to be greedy :p Oh, and Jim take a look at BuildYourOwn.org.uk Very helpful bunch, will probably recommend something down the lines of: Motherboard: Asus P5K (Either the basic P5K or SLi version if you think you will use it) CPU: Intel Core2Duo E6750 GPU: Sapphire Radeon x1950XT RAM: 2GB Geil PC-6400 800MHz (4-4-4-12 timings) HDD: Samsung Spinpoint (whatever size) DVD: NEC/Optiarc DVD-RW 20x SATA or 18x Labelflash IDE (depends if you want faster burning or label printing) Case: Antec Sonata III (inc 500W Antec Earthwatts PSU) For computers the adage goes "build em cheap, build em often!". Use last years tech if you can, it's usually better value. You can build a reasonable gaming PC off the price of a 8800Ultra alone! Sure it won't be "future proof" but you could sell it in a year, build a new rig and still be quids in. That is true future proofing
Colin Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 £100, same as the lowest Quad Core, which is, according to benchmarking tests, worse than the E6850. Depends what you're doing with it really. A Quad would blaze the E6850 on rendering and video compression, while for purely gaming, then yes, the E6850 is much better. I would be getting the E6850 though if I didn't have a need for the quad, as it does look damn good overall and at a really good price when you consider the E6600's were around the same amount not long ago.
