Hero-of-Time Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Today the list of exhibitors showing up for the Tokyo Game Show and despite the rumours Nintendo looks like it wont be showing up for the party. Here is the list of those who are though. 3DV Systems ACQUIRE CORPORATION ARC SYSTEM WORKS BANPRESTO BROCCOLI CAPCOM D3PUBLISHER ENTERBRAIN HUDSON JALECO KOEI KONAMI LEVEL-5 MARVELOUS ENTERTAINMENT MICROSOFT NAMCO BANDAI GAMES SEGA SNK PLAYMORE SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT SQUARE ENIX TAITO TECMO TOMY This pretty much puzzles me somewhat as Nintendo didnt really push any of their games at E3 apart from Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 so what about the rest of the titles coming from Nintendo this year? Surely with this annoucement Nintendo have to at least hold their own event to show of the likes of Smash Bros, Battalion Wars, Fire Emblem etc. Or is Nintendo sitting pretty and feels like they dont need to show these games? Thoughts?
Zelda_Rulez Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Maybe their having a Spaceworld event again? It would be stupid not to go to TGS otherwise.
Hero-of-Time Posted July 31, 2007 Author Posted July 31, 2007 Maybe their having a Spaceworld event again? It would be stupid not to go to TGS otherwise. I would love it if Spaceworld returned, just cant see it happening though. It was mentioned in an interview a few weeks back about Smash Bros maybe getting its own event, seems all the more likely now.
Zelda_Rulez Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 In 2005 Nintendo wasn't at TGS as well. But Iwata still showed the Wiimote for the first time there, in a press conference IIRC. Maybe they'll be doing something like that again.
Hellfire Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 They never show at TGS what's the surprise? The reason they don't show is because the show is owned or something like that by Sony.
Owen Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 I have a feeling this was the September surprise Reggie was talking about! Perhaps it's there own show/conference thing in September? Would be a good idea if you ask me, if not, then Nintendo has missed an opportunity to show some crowd pleasers.
Jasper Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Or maybe Nintendo thinks it has already won in Japan and is preparing for The Leipzig Games Convention instead? Probably, if you ask me - they might have a bigger focus on this show. Or maybe they're preparing for E for All. No, I'm sorry, just kidding.
Hero-of-Time Posted July 31, 2007 Author Posted July 31, 2007 They never show at TGS what's the surprise? True, but with all of the rumours this year saying they were going to attend it still came to me as a disappointment, especially with the lack of stuff they showed at E3. Aslong as MH3 ( dont care what console its for ) is shown at TGS then I will be a happy man.
Hero-of-Time Posted July 31, 2007 Author Posted July 31, 2007 Monster Hunter 3. 1st and 2nd ones were on the PS2 but the western world never got the 2nd one. Then Monster Hunter Freedom was released on the PSP and the 2nd a year after. We got the 1st one of these and the 2nd is out next month over here. I have easily clocked over 1000 hours playing on the MH franchise, simply awesome. I would love it if it came to the Wii. The Wii mote would be great for doing the weapon actions such as using a Great Sword, Sword and Shield or even the Lance.
Hellfire Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Ah yeah. I've been meaning to get the Pc version, it looks really cool.
Goron_3 Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Well there's a smash-only event sometime next month apparantly, so I guess we can wait for that for some big smash info. Would really like to see a spaceworld though for other games.
david.dakota Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Is it really likley that Nintendo are holding a show? Honestly, by this point, most of the media would have received their invitations, and i'm sure stronger confirmation would have been found on the web.
Zechs Merquise Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 If I remember correctly Nintendo don;t usually show at this event. To be honest I'm not sure what effect this events have on the gaming public. I'm pretty sure that their lack of showing will affect Wii sales.
Sooj Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 they will probably have Iwata make a keynote speech at the show instead of having any stalls.
jammy2211 Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Erm, it aint that bad really. Can still hope for some big annoucements from Capcom / Square / Konami / Koei / SEGA / Namco-Bandai and various others. Nintendo will hold their own event, whether it be Space World or some other press conference. They need to do something to get everyone talking about Smash Bro's, which will happen after Metroid is out. Leipzig might have some news also, they revealed Mario Strikers and Battalion Wars 2 last year there so who knows. There's an article on IGN about Miyamoto and Nintendo creating a new franchise in the same vein Pikmin was made, penciled for a 2008 release, so I would hope we hear about this along with the resurrected franchise we're expecting!
IMJ Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Nintendo has never attended the TGS, so really no surprise there. The only exception was Iwata appearance as a guest for a keynote, which was the first time we saw light of the Wiimote. Still, i would have loved to see Nintendo finally taking a presence there. Fortunately, we still have the 3rd parties to count on some news and hands-on. Will Nintendo have a show of its own? Probably not, at least not like the old Space World or Nintendo World shows. Most likely some press conference to show the latest things to the press or retailers.
Jasper Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 they will probably have Iwata make a keynote speech at the show instead of having any stalls. And maybe Iwata will snag all the attention by making the biggest news in his speech, like he did with the Wiimote. It made Microsoft and Sony shiver that day, since Nintendo just stole their limelight by revealing something in a speech. That was all that most game websites could talk about back then, and Sony and Microsoft went hiding in the shadows.
Speedfreak Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Durr, they'll do Spaceworld again just like they did last year. It's just called "Nintendo World" now.
killer kirby Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 even though Nintendo won't be at the show, at least you know there are going to be lots of trailers from 3rd partys to show for the Wii and the DS ^_^
AshMat Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Yeah there'll be plenty of stuff from 3rd parties about wii and ds like kirby said, so i wouldn't worry about it.
pedrocasilva Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Erm, it aint that bad really. Can still hope for some big annoucements from Capcom / Square / Konami / Koei / SEGA / Namco-Bandai and various others.Level-5, level-5, level-5.... EGM rumors this month: level 5 is going to announce 4 new rpgs at tokyo game show Wii, wii, wii, wii... (as in: stop the moneyhatting Sony) even though Nintendo won't be at the show, at least you know there are going to be lots of trailers from 3rd partys to show for the Wii and the DS ^_^Might even be a way of Nintendo letting third party's have the spotlight.

I'm sure some will be on DS though, not that I'd object to that :P. I think it'll be interesting to see what the third parties have, the Wii's 'proven' itself for a good 9 month by then so I'm sure alot of the games that started developement due to the success will be ready to show. I'm really hoping Konami have a Mystical Ninja game, and Square-Enix some more RPG's. God knows really, there are too many possibilities. Of course I feel like creating some hype, so lest we not forget the president of Square-Enix said Wii Owners should be looking forward to their TGS presentation. Funnily enough they also plan to annouce Kingdom Hearts III platform at the same event...hmph.

What I understood of that KH rumor was that they were supposed to announce some spinoff.

Dark Cloud 3 would be great on the Wii, going with the Level-5 thing.
