AshMat Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Why do PC owners care about mac adverts? Do mac owners give a shit about the vista ad's? It's probs down to where the mac ads have been, as they have been more visible etc than the M$ ones. . IT's because the Vista ads advertise vista and don't do anything else. The Mac adverts have to resort to digging at PCs to get it out.
Shorty Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 But picking apart the competition is something the underdog has to do. If the mac just talks about what it can do, PC users will say "well, I can do that too". The mac's best chance in the advertising world is to make you think it does it better than you're used to. I agree with the point that's been raised in this thread. The fact that it's got you guys so riled up means it's probably working really well on some people. Yes, diehard PC fans are angry. Now take your anger at some of their (admittedly occasionally frail) claims about which is better, and imagine someone without your spirit and experience with Windows hearing them. Someone who wants a new notebook that they can watch videos on and do their work on. They're going to be swayed by all the things that are pissing you off. It's proof that they're doing what they set out to do. Hey, if you always shopped at Asda, you'd probably be pissed about Tesco's new pricecheck adverts too.
Jasper Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Exactly, Shorty. I really don't see the problem here. This is what underdogs do. Now stop complaining! We didn't complain when Vista had the slogan 'The Wow! Starts now', even though it's just as much of a lie.
AshMat Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Because that slogan is anywhere near the same thing as what mac did? The slogan wasn't "Macs are shite and not interesting, get Vista because the WOW starts now!" Also i don't appreciate what Tesco are doing wih their ad campaign either, especially when they're big enough already.
Ellmeister Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 They're only adverts??? I think they are brilliant adverts! Everyone knows the adverts, we even have a whole thread about them (albeit saying how supposedly shit the adverts are)! This means they are sticking in you're mind. If you're going to say that Apple are saying if you don't buy a Mac, then you're not cool etc... then what about all the other adverts? Quite a few adverts these days compare themselves to their competitors and try to belittle them, it makes you think. btw those 2 guys on the adverts are AWESOME!
Shino Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 That fact that its unthinkable for Microsoft to do the same just shows how biased that shit is. I don't care if its the underdog, you're not allows to tell lies to uniformed public.

Wesley Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 This is really... really silly. This whole thread. It's advertising... all advertising has this kind of tactic/stereotyping/bullshit. You only pick up on it when it's against you though. So no... to answer the thread, no I do not find the advert patronising. And not just because I own a Mac (because I run Windows on it and when I buy a laptop it will run Windows), but because it's advertising.

Sanchez Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 It's proof that they're doing what they set out to do. The object of advertising is to raise awareness and appeal for a product, not to piss people off by putting down the products they use. For me apples advertising is having the opposite effect, although I still got my dad an iMac because it's something I thought would appeal to him.
Ant-Shimmin Posted July 30, 2007 Author Posted July 30, 2007 I know it's only advertising... But if I had an advert with two other people saying I'm a PC...I'm Good Enough for most people, I can do virtually anything you need to do without any problems, if you go and download porn and use unsafe programs I will get ill..But I work if you know how to use me and I've been around for a very long and time and most of the homes in the Developed worlds have me... I'm a Mac If you can't use a PC and are absolutely fucking clueless to what anything is on a PC and like to be part of a pointless fad that wants to take over the world b using the "i" range in everything is sells, then buy me, keep in mind we are highly hypocritical because we hate MS for trying to take over the world, when we have a power hungry overlord trying to do the same. I try to convice everyone how good I am and won't leave them alone till they try me despite being happy with what they have. I'm nothing more than a fucking annoyance.. Would you be offended or riled?
That Guy Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 The best adverts are those which cause a reaction. So as an advert it does its job. Granted, it comes out as pompous but I presume it is meant to be somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Thats the way that I took them. I do really like them and think they're amusing. I think the people that don't like them are the people who are overly sensitive to the whole PC vs Mac debate. The ones that spit out their dummy at the first sign of someone saying something negative about Windows, and take everything really seriously.
AshMat Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 The ones not complaining about the ads are the mac users though. They're taken seriously because they're bullshit, they're not "just a laugh" when people buy one just because the ads told them they're cool.
Sanchez Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 I don't care what operating system I use, nor what anyone else uses, I use windows because it has the best programs. I have a problem with people telling me I am inferior because I don't use what they use.

Or being told about how good Apple are and what they are doing and how bad Vista is every 5 fucking seconds...Arggghhhh They wind me up

Would you be offended or riled? If Windows made that advert I would find it hilarious even if I was a mac owner! Don't get me fucking startedYou're lucky you don't live in America. Half their TV adverts slam their competition. You wouldn't be able to handle it (despite it having no actual effect on you whatsoever).

I get riled very easy and find very small things of easy annoyance... Personally I think MS should just put this up with, If you love us half as much as this guy does you will give us a go...

Ant-Shimmin Posted July 30, 2007 Author Posted July 30, 2007 Who are these people though? I mean really.. think about it. Oh I dunno... Person One: I Really Need a 1GB Stick Mac Owner: Oh Apple are ejaculating all over the hardware market at the moment and do this and that and this and that, Why am I talk about Apple, Because I am just literally a Nazi... I'm sorry for being Sarcastic but Windows Owners post in threads looking for advice and all we get is Apple Spam everywhere, and no matter what we say all Mac Owners go on about is Macs, in threads which don't have any need for reference to Macs or Apple! I mean being serious didn't cut it, so let's use humour
KKOB Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 I really don't see everyones problem with macs, they're good, they're pretty to look at, the OS is nice and easy to use while still being very powerful, and on a mac you get a nice shovel load of free stuff to be creative and mess about with. The ads are funny ads. Again, why the hell do PC users care? Is it because you don't like people calling what you use every day crap compared to something else? Difference between windows and OS X is that windows comes with hassles and everything is kinda hidden away-probably as it's not M$ who makes the hardware and software. OS X has that major advantage along with a more modern unix basic-unix itself is damn powerful. And if you know ho to use it, along with apple script, you'll find a power user is more at home on a mac. Macs can scale in difficulty, where as windows has one level for everyone, so you need to understand more, and do a couple weird things to get it to do what you want sometimes. I'm not posting in here no more else i'll explode. OS X is a fantastic OS. Windows is a decent enough standard OS. Ant's said he likes the mac, as has Ashmat who is looking for a nice iBook or MacBook-if it wasn't for these ad's, and to a certain extent the M$ fanboy backlash etc then i doubt that these two members would have become interested, motion as well is looking at a mac for later this year. This is proof of the ads working. Doing their little bit to get people to think about or buy a mac. The ads are great fun, and even bill gates enjoys them to a certain extent. Macs and PCs aren't in a war. They communicate, talk, and work well together. Why can't we all just get along, and blow up our windows PCs and buy macs MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAAAA! - you didn't think i'd end this post on a nice mature point did you?
AshMat Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Quick point, it wasn't these ads that amde me want a mac, it was using my mates macbook.
That Guy Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 The ones not complaining about the ads are the mac users though. They're taken seriously because they're bullshit, they're not "just a laugh" when people buy one just because the ads told them they're cool. I saw a spoof of the ads on the internet somewhere where they turned the roles round and it was just as funny. We're not all blind Apple fans. Hell, I've taken my Macbook in for repair only to get it back more broke. I enjoy using the operating system and my computer happens to look nice. I also happen to think the ads are funny. So : peace:
theguyfromspark Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 These were the best spoofs I found. I think they're just as funny as the Mac ones.
Shino Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 I really don't see everyones problem with macs, they're good, they're pretty to look at, the OS is nice and easy to use while still being very powerful, and on a mac you get a nice shovel load of free stuff to be creative and mess about with. No one is complaining about Macs, we're complaining about the ads, that deceives and belittles something else in order to make the brand look good. It portraits PCs as they were in 95, lets looks at a 95 mac: WTF looks just like a PC! Quite honestly, before this fad that was how I perceived Macs, as another Dell or Compaq, not a life changing decision. Just like Ipod its only a high quality (expensive) MP3 player.
