In the long run it makes absolutely no difference, if it hurts them it's in the short term and it only hurts a handful of people who buy a lot of games and download a lot of VC games. SPecially considering that Iwata already admited this problem, this isn't a problem for them in the long run at all. You have to the understand, that we, the "dedicated" gaming community is really a small percentage.

That doesn't mean they don't need to fix it though

Yeah I know what you mean. Its a shame that the ones who supported Nintendo during the tough times like the N64 era are now the ones getting shafted though.

I'm not, so I'm not worried lol. It's not like people have to buy the games they already bought again, just use an sd card or re-download it. Not elegant, but no ones getting shafter.

Point is we shouldnt have to go through all of this hassle when the solution is so easy. Also with more and more of the game saves on the Wii not being able to be copied on to SD cards what are we supposed to do for memory? Just delete all of our Smash Bros data?

Sure its fine for people who dont gorge themselves on games but for people like myself who practically play games non stop it is an issue.

I remember Matt on a previous podcast on about the same thing, think it was when they were trying to give Pokemon Snap as a gift but they had no space for it :) Just yesterday Gonintendo had a little article about it aswell saying how he had to delete aload of stuff just to get some Wiiware games.

To be fair we already have a discussion about this on the Wii Channel boards so its a bit pointless clo

If the Wii wasn't such a "casual" machine, which would leave us "core gamers" being the owners, you can bet Nintendo would have already released a hard drive or something. At the beginning I thought the flash memory would be ample, but to be honest its not. Game saves, channels, VC games and now Wiiware... there's only so much copying, deleting and redownloading people are prepared to take.

I said in the other thread that I'm down to less than 20 blocks. I've deleted what I'm prepared to delete (game saves from games I traded) and I don't want to delete my VC games. I like having them there. This means I'm probably gonna bide my time with Wiiware.

Doubt it, Nintendo was always like this, for instance, GC was hardcore and they still weren't too keen on online features. PS2 had a HDD option, Xbox brought one with it... GC didn't and never added support for one.

I think their reasons for not allowing HDD's is mostly a security for themselves, although they'd surely put more Flash on the mobo if they were to do Wii today, infact, perhaps they will someday, who knows.

I as a hardcore gamer couldn't care less so far though, not that I don't want HDD support mind you, but... I won't buy a frickin game that I already own for the VC, I'm pretty much a collector and see no value in "virtual purchases" I'd buy a Japanese OoT more easily than buying the english release I already own several times just so I have it on the VC, just as I'd rather buy a SNES cartridge than a virtual licence.

Only VC game I aquired was Sin and Punishment, and I'd buy any game that didn't have a official English release, such as Fire Emblem games, Tales of Phantasia, Star Ocean... stuff along those lines. Games that I already own though... I don't think so.

VC... is for people that didn't enjoy the games back then, people that don't hold on to stuff or, more specifically the japanese who frequently lack space at home to keep these. Most of the hardcores don't need it.

Now... Wiiware is a whole different matter.

With the state of hacking on Wii, adding a hard drive, wouldn't make much of a difference to them piracy-wise.

Point is, no one's being shafted, I never said it's good like this.

But are there that many games that cant be copied to the SD card?

I gave this a listen and it was good. It felt like they had fun recording it, so it made it a fun listen. They covered so much more reader questions than are in the summary, and I was going to mention one or two... but just can't remember what they were now.

Here is this weeks notes.

WiiFit:

-Video review from Matt’s house coming later this week. Enjoy Stalkers.

-No multi player mode of any kind.

We Ski:

-Not so good.

-You can play 4 player mode but only one person can use the balance board

-The mini-game in WiiFit is better than We Ski.

~Konami Event~

-Rock Revolution DS

-More of a Rhythm game. You pick from one of four instruments.

-4 licensed songs were there

-Not so good, its just not a very good game

-International Track and Field DS.

-Really good, challenging.

-A lot of fast motioning with the stylus.

-Castlevania DS

-Was there but wasn’t playable

-Wii connectivity ‘practically confirmed’

-No idea if there is a full Wii game yet.

Band Brothers DX:

-Pass me through system with a Wii speaker channel. Bozon’s Sauce is message boards.

-Hope that channel is not the one Castlevania DS is using

Conduit :

-638 Comments on the Video, which only used to happen with GTA caliber games

-Craig “Unless Nintendo Picks it up, it will sell 5 copiesâ€

-Bozon “Graphics are art design could use some workâ€

-They all agree the game needs a huge marketing budget

-Sounds like they could announce a publisher any day

Mad World:

-Got to see a 6 minute demo in San Fran.

-The gore in the game is way over the top

-Thinks it’ll get an M, they think ESRB won’t AO it since the extreme gore is comical

-Early ‘09

Infinite Line DS :

-2d art for character interactions

-3d for the space stuff

-Haven’t seen video, no gameplay shots

-Space Scifi setting.

~Sega Event~

Sonic Unleashed:

-Frame rate is all over the place, and they are shooting for 30fps.

-You can do a drift turn with a boost at the end

-You can do side dodges without losing speed

-Looks “Beautifulâ€

-Very European level design. Back ground textures are nice.

-Sounds like PS360 is the lead sku being developed by Sonic Team alone

-Sega says Wii version Dimps is doing all the Day time levels, but Sonic team is still developing. Rep also said that other studios may be involved, but are trying to downplay it.

-Day time levels and Night time Levels are focus of the game (sonic and were-sonic)

-Sounds like all the Secret Rings Wii-Mote mechanics are gone. This one is Chuck+Mote and Gamecube controller.

Sonic and the Dark Brotherhood:

-â€A let down†Craig and Bozon.

-Gameplay doesn’t really feel right. A lot of slow to fast to slow.

-3d platforming in 2d is really weird.

-Kind of random battles, turn based stuff. Special attacks are down like elite beat agents, just not as good as EBA.

Sales Age:

May Predictions

-Matt - Wii 800k - 360 high 400k - Ps3 high 200k

-Bozon - Thinks PS360 will be around 250k highest, with Ps3 a little lead. Wii low 700k maybe high 600k

-Craig - PS360 twice of what they did

WiiFit Vs GTA media exposure?

-Today show, Ellen show already had Wiifit its only a matter of time for Oprah!

-They talk about Wiifit’s potential incredible legs

Microsoft Ten Million Mark PR

-They forgot to mention Wii’s at 9.5 million.

-Think Nintendo already has the PR with “Fastest to 10 million†laying in wait for some time in the next two weeks

~Ubisoft Event ~

-Ign has exclusive sometime in the next week

-Jokes about the “Nintendo like quality they showed there†Hint: Not Nintendo like Quality

-One that could be pretty cool, great name, 7 Z’s in the name. Could have Potential. (don’t know if this is one game or just jokes, plenty of jokes about titles ending in Z’s)

~WiiWare Policy Interview Should be coming this week

~Guitar Hero DS blog coming this week

Matt C Hype Title :

-Soon, an exclusive Zapper title for Wii that you may/will want will be announced

-Bozon impression of GAF and how they react to Matt C’s hyped games that do not exist

Critter Round up:

-Not Very Challenging

-$10, Overpriced

Star Soldier R:

-Bozon “decentâ€

-Comes with a Warning that notes its a time based game which shuts the game off after either 2 minutes or 5 minutes

-Highest Score for each mode gets uploaded to Nintendo Wifi.

-The story set up doesn’t work with the game

Reader Q & A :

Q: Conduit Trailer, Death match Authorized, does this mean we’re finally going to get one ?

A: Matt will confirm that by the end of this week. They think thats what it means.

Q: Favorite series/game/how would you improve it on a Nintendo Console ?

A: Early, perhaps pre-alpha. Don’t have full levels yet

A: They don’t have any idea.

A: May have looked at Japanese launch and saw how Nintendo games trumped third parties.

Q: Best game on the Wii?

A: Mario Galaxy, Unanimous.

Q: Capcom Gamer’s Day?

A: Next week in Vegas. Only know of Off the record stuff to expect.

Q: Worthy franchise to get the Lego treatment? ?

A: Could go through an hour on this one question. Fight Club, TMNT.

Q: Zack and Wiki resurrected for WiiWare?

A: Not going to happen.

Q:Mad World Just a stylized Manhunt ?

A: Umm, no.

Q: Crystal Bearers news ?

A: If its not at E3, we won’t see it this year. Trickled news that there has been some problems

Q: Kid Icarus Genre ?

A: Think its going to be an action flight game

Q: Balance Board ever to be sold separately ?

A: Probably not, example: Wii Play.

Needed moar Shenmue.

I disagree a lot with the "Unless Nintendo Picks it up, it will sell 5 copies"; it needs a good publisher, sure, but it can sell pretty well pretty much elsewhere as long as they get advertised, the artistic direction improves and the game rocks.

BOOOOO at Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Teams real priorities after SatSC sold 2 millions and the crap sonic ps3/x360 sold crap (hope the Wii version sells through the roof so their learn their lesson, but... we have the crappy cross platform version with ps2 version) Frame rate all over the place in HD versions is ridiculous too.

We Ski... BOHOOOO Namco.

Heres this weeks

Wii Fit

- Best Buy: Wii Fit stands completely sold out

- GameStop: Same story

- Been on BBC news, MTV, Good Morning show, Ellen

- Matt believes that long term, Wii Fit will be huge - not sure if it can sell as much as GTAIV

- Amazon, retailers in general sold out

- Matt has Wii calisis on his palms

Emergency Heroes

- Straightforward racing game, semi-open world

- Decent physics system, good speed and controls

- Framerate jumps sometimes

- Voice-overs are awful

- Overall seems decent

Dr. Mario Online Rx

- Online mode is fun, but only two player

- Virus buster is great - use Wii pointer to grab pills, set up combo for other friend - not online

- Must-get WiiWare title

Wii hard drive rant

- Matt & Bozon complain a lot about storage problem

- Even if Nintendo doesn’t want to support SD cards, there are two USB ports for a hard drive

- Matt doesn’t know if there’s a solution coming

- Devs been saying that there’s no signs of hard drive in the future, has Matt disturbed

- Even nongamers are getting sick of storage situation

- In 6-7 months, even if someone doesn’t buy too many games, they’ll fill up their space

Reader questions

- In the future, third parties putting their top teams on Wii depends on sales, money. Will see more party games because they sell well.

- More internal support from Nintendo will be coming - Nintendo registered ASH (ESRB)

- Bozon will continue his WiiGetFit blog/experiment

- Matt & Bozon know nothing about Nintendo news at E3. 99% sure we’ll see Wii Music, Animal Crossing in some form, Kid Icarus, ASH, Super Mario Sluggers, maybe Disaster and Pikmin. Need to show off balance board title.

- Even with Guitar Hero downloadable content, Matt doesn’t think we’ll see a hard drive solution

- Timesplitters 4, if it’s a next-gen game, Wii will get a seperate game

- Matt thinks Sky Crawlers will come to US

- Beyond Good and Evil 2 - rumors it’s coming to Wii, nothing to confirm

- Mom’s whining about Wii Fit calling them fat: Will linger a bit

- No More Heroes sold “OK.†Not exceptional, but better than Japan. Don’t expect a sequel anytime soon.

- Madden 09 will probably have better graphics than on original Xbox. Models look great, fresh animation. Haven’t seen it face-to-face yet.

- Wii software situation is iffy: Do software sales include Wii Play? Also, Nintendo has a majority of the software sales.

- Ability to send free demos to friends is a good idea (Dr. Mario). Closest thing to a demo.

- Achievements should appear in more Wii games. Big deal for Bozon.

- Matt thinks we’ll see Wii Music this year

- The Conduit is a great offering for Wii owners - good controls (in theory), not a wartime shooter

- MadWorld wasn’t the game that was discussed in a previous podcast that was set for 2009

- Matt can’t talk about Capcom rumors

- World Ends With You team may create something for the Wii - Square Enix in general will be supporting the system

- Matt hasn’t seen footage of the Factor 5 game

- Confirmation of The Conduit multiplayer - Deathmatch teaser was referring to online component, multiplayer deathmatch. Devs. of The Conduit have been contacted by many publishers, but are taking their time so they can make the game they want to make. “Yes, we are planning on online multiplayer. We don’t yet know how many simultaneous players we’ll be able to support. The other thing folks seem to have a lot questions on the forums front is the lack of a publisher. For what it’s worth, we have no shortages of options now both large and small but we are taking our time. We have our own funding to entirely complete the game and it’s not that we don’t play well with others, we just want to be far enough along that someone doesn’t come along and monkey the whole thing up. We’ve worked on enough licensed titles that had the potential to be good but an arm-chaired quarterback came in and mandated a very bad direction. The further along we are, the less likely that is to happen. We really want The Conduit to be something special for the Wii and for us, you know?â€

- Gyrostar release date: “Gyrostar is sitting in Nintendo’s hands and if I had to guess, I’d say June 16th. But if folks pester Nintendo, maybe they’ll be motivated to push it out sooner?â€

- Matt wants to play more Boom Blox, complete No More Heroes, GTAIV, Bioshock, Uncharted. Bozon wants to play more SSX Blur, Godfather, Scarface, Ace Combat.

- Quantum 3 engine could be licensed to other developers.

- Mario Kart Wii has given hope for future online titles.

- Pre-E3 new game announcements happening now. Won’t hear about Nintendo until E3.

- Won’t get Prince of Persia caliber from Ubisoft, but will get some intriguing games. Red Steel 2 still in development.

- Guitar Hero On Tour: Hands on demo coming soon

- Nintendogs 2 will probably happen, possibly on Wii

- Monkey King - Bozon will review it in the near future

- Megaman 9 or Megaman Battle Network? Megaman 9

- Would like to see something based on Shadow of Colossus on Wii

If Nintendo dont announce something to solve the memory issue at E3 im gonna be royally peed off.

"S-E will be suppporting the Wii..."

Yeah whatever. Show me the money you wankers, non of this Wii ware stuff.

Square said Wii was their core priority, whereas X360 wasn't.

Seeing stuff like Unfinite Undiscovery, Last renmant and possibly Star Ocean 4 coming out for X360 though... They really have to step up on the Wii and show worthy stuff.

I'm fine with the wiiware title actually, it's their most ambitious Wii title after all, and freaking ambitious for a downloadable game (does PSN or XBLA have full fledged RPG's?) It's more ambitious than Dragon Quest Swords and Chocobo spin-off's at least. But now I want real support from them, no more DQS and Chocobo's; not without other kind of RPG's coming along too, that is.
