KKOB Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 The gentlemen's sport played by ruffians OR the ruffian sport played by gentlemen. Which is the better of the two?
Zell Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Voted football as going to matches is just a brilliant experience every time. If your asking which is the better sport, then footy again, but cricket beats them both.
KKOB Posted June 8, 2007 Author Posted June 8, 2007 Voted football as going to matches is just a brilliant experience every time. I fall asleep whenever i see cricket, even if it's just highlights on the news, i think i may have a problem . . .
Daft Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 They both have their merrits. Its obviously down to personal choice. If you want a reall gentlemens game you need to take a lead from the top public schools in the country. For example this game, called 'winkies'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winchester_College_football P.S. This sport is nuts....I voted Footie.
Zell Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 LIES! I fall asleep whenever i see cricket, even if it's just highlights on the news, i think i may have a problem . . . What I meant was, as a game, cricket is a better sport to play than football and rugby. In terms of watching, cricket is still fooking amazing, especially if you go to a test match. Cricket's not for everyone though.
conzer16 Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Jesus this is harder than i thought it would it be! Ya may gimme a few minutes to mull it over! Edit: I voted rugby!
Mundi Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Well one sport makes tackling someone physically down annoying because you the it benefits the other team and you can get send out. The other sport makes tackling down people fun. Rugby i say!

In terms of watching, cricket is still fooking amazing, especially if you go to a test match. Cricket's not for everyone though. I refused to play cricket and football at school, i only ever did dodgeball, rugby, tennis or badminton! Footballs alright to play but cricket doesn't interest me at all when i did have to play it before i dropped out of even bothering lol Snookers another 'sport' i find shear hell to watch. Rugby is an amazing game to watch and play. Hence my vote and bias with titling ^_^
Zell Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 By the way, does anyone here actually play a sport? Ie, play for a football or cricket club (not just a kick about in the park). I know it may seem that all we do is play videogames because of our inability to be good at sport, but that's obviously the stereotype. I play for a village cricket team (not that good I know ).
KKOB Posted June 9, 2007 Author Posted June 9, 2007 This one could be bigger than the epic daddy and chips vote, CHIP FO LIFE Y'ALL! By the way, does anyone here actually play a sport? I know it may seem that all we do is play videogames because of our inability to be good at sport, but that's obviously the stereotype. I play for a village cricket team (not that good I know ). Wow your from buckingham, does that mean you have oodles of money so that john st can get you to buy him a new macbook pro and give you his year old macbook?
motion Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 You want a sport where the professional outfit is corrupt, has brawls, violence (in some cases fatal) every other week by supporters, racism, homophobia, segregation of fans, overpayed prima-donnas playing it, diving, pansy arsed players, poor role models, 90 minutes of dull 0-0 scorelines, fans shouting obcenities to opposition fans and managers ("hey tumor-boy, why couldn't you have died 3 years ago being one") and an atmosphere that you would never feel comfortable taking your kids to see, choose football. If you want a game that's exciting, filled with skill and awesome tactics, where fans share pre-post match pints together, sit together, family atmosphere, great attitude amongst players, not a single amount of violence, racism or homophobia, gentlemen players, choose rugby. Play rugby and have done pretty much all my life. The gentlemen's sport played by ruffians OR the ruffian sport played by gentlemen. I thought it was 'thugs'. Ie, the gentleman's sport played by thugs = football.
chairdriver Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Rugby is like a million times better to play, and is actually good to watch. Football is boring, and reminds me too much of hooliganism and chavs.

Play rugby and have done pretty much all my life. That's the most biased post I've ever seen. I honestly couldn't keep up with all the negative football stereotypes. I listen to the classified check every week, and on average there are 5-10 0-0 scorelines per week in the entire football league. There is as much rascism and homophobia in football as there is in rugby. Hardly any. It appears on the news when it does happen, but this is very infrequent. an atmosphere that you would never feel comfortable taking your kids to see Tell me you're joking. You've never been to many football matches then have you? There's something called a family stand. Many kids go to matches. And I in no way feel threatened by the atmosphere at a football match. The atmosphere is tense and exciting, the banter between the supporters in nothing more than banter. Do you want me to tell you the main difference between football and rugby? The passion for the game. The reason why fans cheer and shout their loudest is because they genuinely care. Football is a matter of life and death to those people, you can't really say the same amount of people are as passionate for rugby as they are for football. If all your statements were indeed correct, then surely rugby would be more popular? But wait, it isn't. Why then? Because rugby is simply inferior. It requires less skill than football, the tactics aren't as diverse and the game is overall less exciting. That' my say on the matter.
KKOB Posted June 9, 2007 Author Posted June 9, 2007 I thought it was 'thugs'. Ie, the gentleman's sport played by thugs = football. Ruffians is more olde and the way i first heard the saying on the tele many moons ago.

I would if I lived in buckingham palace, which I don't, because buckingham and buckingham palace are too different places. I don't have oodles or money nor am I particually well off compared to all you lot with your HD projectors and what not.
conzer16 Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 It requires less skill than football I wouldn't agree with you there. I have played both sports in my time and rugby is a far more skillful game.

There's no barrier to entry to football ie/ the poor guys of brazil, or wigan can play it without huge goal posts or getting muddy and maybe hurt. Rugby is a better game to watch. In theory football should be better as it's all about control and finesse etc, BUT in reality, it's mostly luck. There's far more tactics in rugby. And don't forget our country won the Rugby world cup not so long ago, there was lots of passion for the sport then that has carried over to the 6 nations and to an extent, ruby league and union. I would if I lived in buckingham palace, which I don't, because buckingham and buckingham palace are too different places. I don't have oodles or money nor am I particually well off compared to all you lot with your HD projectors and what not. lolz. Buckingham sounds posh like berkshire or shropshire. Where's my HD projector?!

Awww man! I wanted to watch a predictable sport where luck never plays a part! I just wanna say, as long as it ain't cricket it rocks!
motion Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 It requires less skill than football. That's the funniest thing I've heard all week. How anyone can watch 90 minutes of 22 players kicking a ball between each other is beyond me.
KKOB Posted June 9, 2007 Author Posted June 9, 2007 Awww man! I wanted to watch a predictable sport where luck never plays a part! My point was that footballs about chance more than anything, rugby's more about tactics and team work with a lot of running and screaming at the tv 'run ya little fecker ya'

Football is a matter of life and death to those people, you can't really say the same amount of people are as passionate for rugby as they are for football. And you know this how? You don't know. Passion levels are just as high for rugby as they are for football. Only difference is, when a team in rugby loses, their fans don't meet up with opposition fans for a brawl after the game, like in football. THAT is why there is segregation of fans in football and not rugby. I wouldn't agree with you there. I have played both sports in my time and rugby is a far more skillful game. The man speaks the truth. Ten times for tactics/skill involved in rugby.
