ThePigMarcher Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Decided to force myself to give this a couple more hours , and the good thing is I have managed to sort out a return/refund on it. It is picking up slightly , and there are some nice ideas but it is still not doing it for me. The graphics are plain horrible in most places , tolerable in others. That wouldn't be a concern if the game wasn't gimped in other presentation and if the Wii controls were better implemented (15-20 attempts just to open the inventory each time just isn't on , perhaps it's just me). Some of the controls do work well and again some nice ideas. Not overly impressed with the level design , even with the restrictions that have been placed on the Wii version. It appears that I am about half way through and yet there isn't any sign of a gripping storyline , which games of this genre usually depend upon. I am really trying to enjoy this as I have been looking forward to it for ages , but all of the above are making it extremely disappointing.
mcj metroid Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 but im curious why do people pre order these games? It's not like they are going to sell out like mad. Also this was always dodgy it's created by atari for gods sake not to mention 2 and 3 were horrible. The screens looked average so why not give it a few weeks and then see the reviews and see for yourself.. boggles me anyway
ThePigMarcher Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 so why not give it a few weeks and then see the reviews and see for yourself.. boggles me anyway Usually I would , and this has reminded me why. EDIT - Looks like Atari haven't taken kindly to some of the reviews that have been going around http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/84594
RossK Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 oo=eer well if they have dodgy copys that are the full version amybe its justified , but if they are just lashing out at people for giving them bad scores....thats totally wrong , if everyone did that wed never know what games were good or not.
The fish Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 'lo all, sorry to product-place, but my review of it for N-E will be up tomorrow, probably. It's not exactly positive... Playr (gaming TV show on Bravo) gave it an 8/10. The 'William' Fishington is getting the review copy from Atari of the Wii version, so you may want to wait for his opinions too. Playr are seriously defunct in the intelligence department. Listen to that Will fellow, he sounds jolly clever!
Melainon Posted June 23, 2008 Author Posted June 23, 2008 Can any of you confirm whether it runs in widescreen or progressive scan, please?
The fish Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Can any of you confirm whether it runs in widescreen or progressive scan, please? I'll check when I next can, although there isn't much point - DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. It's in need of another year in development at the very least, it's awful. EDIT: the N-E review is up! http://www.n-europe.com/review.php?rid=387
Boomstick Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Here are a few gameplay clips I recorded http://www.imeem.com/people/x3pRCQF/video/Qh5nmAHi/miniditka_alone_in_the_dark_wii_versionclip_1_videogames/ http://www.imeem.com/people/x3pRCQF/video/xicH8hPD/miniditka_alone_in_the_darkwii_versionclip_2_videogames_v/ http://www.imeem.com/people/x3pRCQF/video/jWIZwxzV/miniditka_alone_in_the_darkwii_versionclip_3_videogames_v/ http://www.imeem.com/people/x3pRCQF/video/MQWf6i_Q/miniditka_alone_in_the_darkwii_versionclip_3_videogames_v/ This is probably the worst $50 I've ever spent on game

ShadowV7 Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 It amazes me how Atari even thought the game was release worthy. Surely they knew how bad it was though? They couldn't possibly think it was good...
triforcemario Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 It amazes me how Atari even thought the game was release worthy. Surely they knew how bad it was though? They couldn't possibly think it was good...This isn't the first time Atari has done this, you know. They did exactly the same with Driv3r, which was too a steaming load of horse shit, and also Atari would only give the press pre-release copies for reviews if they gave the game at least a 9/10.

Forgive me for assuming that piece of information is slightly exaggerated.
Tellyn Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 To be fair Atari didn't set any requirements, they just asked for an address and had it sent out the next day. That's way, way overexaggerated. Oh yeah, check this game on Gamesrankings and Metacritic. We're single-handedly responsible for a 30% average.
D_prOdigy Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Publishers only really "set" requirements if it's a pre-release review. For example, Konami only told publications they weren't allowed to mention the installation times in MGS4 if the review was to be put up before the game is released. You'd find most sites don't really want to compromise the review, and instead of posting a bullshit one, they often just opt for a midnight review on the date the game comes out. I'd really reccomend listening to the latest IGN Nintendo Podcast; they share quite a bit of light on how it works.
ShadowV7 Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Well a few days back when the reviews started popping up, a site did mention they couldn't put an early review up unless it was a good score.
Deathjam Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 If N-Europe shuts down, you guys know who to blame. Is that the lowest score you have ever given because based on the review, it seemed like you were being generous with the score, maybe not to appear harsh. And I read it two days ago.
The-chosen-one Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 i just played this game and i love it the graphics arent that bad like everyones says the gameplay is really good how you can switch between first person mode and third person and the way you have to drive cars at first i had to get used to it they have done a good job with the wii mote

Back to Alone in the Dark, I'm really surprised anyone thought this was going to be good. The series has a history of being appalling and Atari are a little crap!
... Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Konami also banned people from mentioning that half the game is actually a movie... That's nothing that an MGS fan didn't know already, anyway.
mcj metroid Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 edge actually gave this a 7 wow not thats different
