chairdriver Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 I only have Some People Have Real Problems but I've listened to her other albums and they're real good'uns. I like this one alot:
Paj! Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 (edited) I only have Some People Have Real Problems by Sia, and it's pretty good. EDIT: RE Chair: Reveal hidden contents --- I don't understand people don't have more love for Saint Etienne. Listening to an album of theirs (their earlier stuff especially) is such an experience. This quote sums them up so well (talking about their second album specifically, of which the above song is a B-side); Quote ...when So Tough is actually playing, I'm not sure I can think of any other record I so hope to wake up one day and actually find myself walking around inside of the world it conjures up. It's like a bright, hazy early morning captured on disc, those hours where the day is still all potential. Edited May 13, 2010 by Paj!
Ashley Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 So I listed to Darwin Deez as suggested by Paj. Ummm...no. It was okay, but not worth another listen to me. I think you have me muddled :p But cheers for the thought
Paj! Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I have no idea what it sounds like other than Radar Detector. I found it annoying to be honest.
Ashley Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I listened to a few and thought "this is...okay, mediocre maybe?" then I saw on Spotify RD was the most listened to so I had a listen and it was upbeater, but not necessarily better.
Paj! Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I was thinking about this on the bus the other day, I never actively want to listen to Ok Computer, something about it just puts me off. It's good and I like it in essence, but I would just never choose to listen to it as a whole. I don't think I ever have actually. It just makes me feel odd (which is a good thing, I suppose, that it inspires a strong reaction). I want to touch Kid A in innapropriate places though. All the time.
chairdriver Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Just got back from CocoRosie. Was really informal. Which added so much. They pretty much came on stage unannounced, when no one was even congregated at the stage. And the band just randomly left the stage between songs and stuff - it felt like everyone involved was just having fun (apart from when Sierra sung operatically, which takes away in certain circumstances, adds in others). There were so many parts which were just so surreally lol-worthy. Bianca lay down on the floor at one point, really inexplicably. I loved. It was a really long concert. They got onstage at about 10 past 8, and played all through till 10. And they stunningly didn't play any of their hits. I would have loved to hear Werewolf, but it added more that they were left untouched. And they're all really amazing musicians. Sierra was basically wheeling a harp about the stage, having fun, whilst Bianca fannied about with a quacking children's toy. And there was a great beatboxing guy, who did an amazing solo, which actually sounded like something you'd hear in a club - extraordinary considering it was just his voice. Really fun gig, and really understated. I only properly knew about 6 of the songs (I've only heard the new album 4 times, and don't have their Noah's Arc one). But was great - really organic.
Paj! Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Which is the one that sings the opera bits? I know one sings the opera and one has the baby voice. Is the one with the baby face the one with the baby voice? (the one sitting up in the picture)
chairdriver Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Bianca is the one sitting up, and she has the baby voice. Sierra is the one lying down, and she sings the opera bits.

The CD's been laying in my kitchen (my dad's) but I've avoided it because of that awful cover art. Looks like something a pre-GCSE kid knocked out on powerpoint. I guess that's the point but, really..
chairdriver Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 It some ways it fits their jokes so well though. That's exactly what they're like on stage. That font, translated into people.
Paj! Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Yeah, it feels like if it wasn't so horrifically sullied by overuse and modern conceptions of what font looks good and doesn't, it would be perfect. It's clearly their worst cover art though if we cut the bullshit. Considering the same joke works way better here...

Paj! Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Fuck you! Everything I say comes from a place of honesty unless otherwise stated. Life's too short to not enjoy the usual mundanity of communicating. --- How To Destroy Angels, a.k.a Trent Reznor's new project since leaving/ending Nine Inch Nails have released their first video. It sounds very NIN, but with a female vocalist. Which is nice. (it's his wife, former singer of West Indian Girl)

Paj! Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I understood. Unless you meant something completely unelated to what you posted. I just oppose lies.

Paj! Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Yes. Yes? --- I've never listened to Tidal by Fiona Apple in one listen because it's SO heavy. Weighty and unrelenting. But each song is really, really good. I think she was 19 when this came out.

The Bard Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 This song just cuts the bullshit and gets to the soaring chorus in an instant. Well gooooood.
