GameIndusrty.biz had an interview with Laurent Fisher from NoE and they discuss the success of the Nintendo Wii and also mentions increasing the production of the Wii's to try and help the demand.

Nintendo has admitted that it is still struggling to meet consumer demand for the Wii as the console continues to sell out at retail just as quickly as it arrives.

"We're planning to increase the production capacity but it's not something that can be done in a couple of days. We have to be patient.

"We're delivering new units to market every week and everyone at Nintendo is working really hard to ensure it's harming the consumer as little as possible," he added.

With the company well on track to reach the six million sales target by the end of March, even Nintendo is surprised by the success of its new home console.

"It's astonishing to think that with six million we're not able to fulfil the initial demand," Fischer said.

Great to see that Nintendo are on target and with Q1 almost over it's great to see that there is still such a huge demand especially when the big games aren't out yet!

There's truck loads available in NZ. But with next to no advertising - no promotions and stores not even having anything in their shop windows to say the Wii exisits it's not surprising really. Nintendo really need to get their act together here. People should take a trip over here if they want one. There's heaps.

I was in my local Gamestation the other week asking about if Wii's were in stock, and they said that they were selling out of Wii's very quickly, and the only way people stood a chance of getting one would be to pre-order one. The worker said that I shouldn't expect to be able to walk into the shop and pick up a Wii until May/June.

It's good and bad news really.

Europe LOVE the Wii, lets just hope NOE are realising this and keep giving us great games much quicker!

NZ is a pal territory aswell, isn't it? It might be a good idea to import from their if you can't find one over here.

Just wait till they release it in other colors, they'll struggle all over again. Many thousands (perhaps millions?) of people are still waiting to be able to choose a colour they were promised back in E3 2005.They're just wainting for demand to lower so that they don't have different colour Wiis competing with each other.

I'm having great deal of ordeal getting a PAL Wii in my flat. I just looked at the sales from some norwegian blog, and it showed only ca. 7,700 sold Wiis. I suspect the low number is caused by the few numbers of Wii being shipped to Norway. It might also be of this great Sony-biased people living in Norway. Must that cannot afford a PS3, goes from PS2 to PC-gaming (/360-gaming) or they completely quit gaming.

I think its more likely thousands doubt millions are waiting just based on the colour of the machine. More likely millions are waiting to see if what killer app titles are going to appear.

Very odd that they're struggling with demand although they manufacture a console almost the same way as five years ago - it's not like there's a lot of 'cleaning up' their production process - they did that five years ago. The demand could be very high, but the rate they're getting them out the hype will be gone by the time they delivered all the orders that there are right now. there are tons of people out there wanting one but not getting it for a month or so - and a month is a long wait, so you could just spend your money on a fancy new HD tv or a new radio for mom to listen to while ironing.

People are being set off.

But I think the fact that nearly 6 million are out there shows Nintendo are getting them out there, and it's just that people are STiLL buying them, rather than what some people thought at first, that Nintendo where supplying a few to create the illusion of high demand.
