Hero-of-Time Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Hows this TV? Can someone who knows what a HDTV needs tell me if this is a decent one for me to run my 360 and PS3 on. http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/3342809/Samsung-37-LE37R87BDX-XEU-HD-Ready-Freeview-Widescreen-LCD-TV/Product.html Thanks
Hero-of-Time Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Cheers Matt, will probably order it tomorrow when I get back from work.
Caris Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Good lad, you will love Uncharted a 720p Mind you the Will will look abit rubbish...
McPhee Posted December 28, 2007 Author Posted December 28, 2007 Oh no! I've got the HD TV bug Work started it, they had me selling tellies all day. Now i want a new one, but not the crap we're selling
daftada Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 I'm getting a second HDTV, this one for my bedroom, trying to steer clear of Samsungs as their SD capabilities are quite poor (i'm pretty disappointed with my current 32" model). Saw this 26" Sony at Argos for under £400, was wondering if anyone has this and can tell me what its like? I'll be using it mainly for Wii, PS2, up-scaled DVDs and as a PC monitor. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5293568/Trail/C%24cip%3D1500006565.Sound%2Band%2Bvision%3EC%24cip%3D1500006586.Televisions%3EC%24cip%3D1500006587.LCD%2Band%2Bplasma%2Btelevisions%3EFC%24Screen+Size+%28inches%29%3D26.26.htm#producttabs

Dunno why, but I don't want to buy a TV online, I want to buy it in store and carry it home. Weird I know, but I prefer it for some random reason.
Goron_3 Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 THe John lewis branch i work at had a 50-inch Samsung going for just £899 in sale. God it looked so tempting! On a different note, i've finally been won over by HD. Watching 300 on a 50 inch set in Blue-Ray was just incredible.

I'm not looking for a moon on the stick HDTV and my step sister just got one of these, was thinking of getting one myself.... only looking for an entry level HDTV for now....

I'm not looking for a moon on the stick HDTV and my step sister just got one of these, was thinking of getting one myself.... only looking for an entry level HDTV for now.... Contrast ratio is way to low tbh 800 : 1 How about this http://www.digiuk.com/productdetail.asp?id=11897 There a good site but there outta stock atm .. would be 100 times better than the one from Dixons hmm only thing is the one from dixons has HDMI and the other dont.. all depends what you need tho.
Emasher Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 What's the best brand for watching an SDTV signal with pillar boxing.
McPhee Posted January 6, 2008 Author Posted January 6, 2008 The best brand of HDTV? And specifics? Where SDTV is concerned you want to look at HD-CRT, then Plasma, then LCD. For the first two just find a good model and you'll be fine, but for LCD i'd go for a Philips or Panasonic. All the models i've seen look cracking with standard def tv displayed! http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0738706051.1199476301@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccckaddmlkfhhdjcflgceggdhhmdfno.0&page=Product&fm=undefined&sm=undefined&tm=undefined&sku=141227&category_oid=-28723 what do people make of this? I'm not looking for a moon on the stick HDTV and my step sister just got one of these, was thinking of getting one myself.... only looking for an entry level HDTV for now.... The 26" and 32" versions are supposed to be pretty good, so i assume it's the same for this one. A word of warning though, apparantly the sound is crap

Phube Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Out of all the LCD's I've seen; the good Panasonics have the best SD quality!
spirited away Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Basically I've found myself with a little bit of cash after my birthday, and I want to buy a small HDTV for my room - primarily for playing games. Problem is I don't know what to look for in an HD; what criteria assure a quality picture and where to find the best deal; which brand to trust, e.t.c I have about £350 to play with, and I'm looking for a TV between 19 - 24 inch, with component support and preferably wall-mounted. I'm no techy and I was wondering If anyone could help me because I don't want to blow my cash, thanks
Caris Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Make sure it's 720p Alot of TV's that are 19"-20" have PC Res' so the 360 picture will be stretched.
spirited away Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/630898/art/samsung/le23r81-lcd-television.html?srcid=36&Partenaire=kelkoo_uk&CodePromo=oui Is this TV any good? Price, look and size-wise it's good for me. Good quality? And will it be fine to play my 360 on?
Caris Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 That is fine m8. i think you can get the 26" for not much more though.
spirited away Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 That is fine m8. i think you can get the 26" for not much more though. Cheers, so it's 720p then? Just need to know if it's wall-mountable? Are they usually?
spirited away Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Yeah it's 720p it should be wall mountable. Can't seem to find out whether it is from the details at the bottom. I guess I'll look around. Thanks so much for the help. Edit: At one site it says the tv a contrast ratio of 8000:1 and the other 4000:1??, i've heard that's quite important...
McPhee Posted January 8, 2008 Author Posted January 8, 2008 £350 can buy you quite a lot these days: 26" Toshiba C3030D for £336.81: http://www.digitaldirect.co.uk/products_moreinfo3/index.asp?product_id=12648&ff=12&ffi=1 26" Sharp AD5E for £358.98 using voucher code JAN10: http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0992470483.1199830661@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccgaddmmkjefdjcflgceggdhhmdfoi.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=241847&category_oid=-28723 Theres quite a few other 26" models for around £350 too, but these are probably the 2 best. Both have VESA holes for wall mounting, you just need the mounting bracket. The Tosh has really good reviews, a bargain at that price! Information on the Sharp is a bit more scarce, but it's got a good rep over at the AVForums. Try this thread: http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=660384&highlight=Sharp+32AD5E
