  1. Yup, it's true You can set up a New3DS as a network drive on a Windows PC and just drag and drop the files over WiFi from your PC! There are no limitations put in place whatsoever (so you can drag/drop any file). Just activate the network drive mode in the System Settings menu (it won't let you do it outside of the System Settings menu, obviously, to stop idiots from deleting files while a game is running!) on your New3DS and it'll appear as a drive on your PC, ready for you to drag/drop files wirelessly! Nintendo put the option in because they knew that getting to the SD Card on the New3DS was a complete PITA
  2. Very solid week! Castlevania COTM is a VERY welcome surprise! (I aint even mad about not getting Metroid Zero Mission like we all expected! )
  3. Crap week... except for Gunman Clive 2, which should be on everyone's shopping list!
  4. NOE just played us for fools... It's not Metroid Zero Mission this week... but rather it's Castlevania Circle of the Moon! (well played NOE, I see what you did there ) Either way, I am MORE than OK with COTM this week! The most underrated game of the Castlevania series for sure! : peace:
  5. No to both. The Gamepad doesn't use USB while the Pro Controller continues to connect via bluetooth while connected via USB.
  6. Oh yeah, for sure. I have a 64GB card myself, but 32GB is more than enough for most people. Even if you find yourself downloading retail titles regularly, 32GB is more than enough really. I just prefer to overkill when it comes to storage so that I don't even need to think about it (Likewise, I have a 2TB HDD hooked up to my Wii U and I know that I'll never even come close to running out of storage space - I'll likely end up using it for the next Nintendo console too :p ) I'm actually more worried about running out of space for icons on my Wii U and 3DS system menus really (both allow a maximum of 300 icons on their respective Home Menus and I can easily see myself running out, or at least coming close to running out, by the end of the generation... I'm already at over 200 on 3DS and that's not counting demos or downloaded videos!)
  7. It does indeed look and sound terrific! Still, with Nicalis in the driver's seat... I'm not hopeful for an EU release at all, let alone a timely one
  8. Don't forget Trauma Team and the Kirby Dream Collection! (Comes with those exclusive New Challenge Mode stages ) Fishing Resort is also another nice US exclusive as well (though it's very much an acquired taste). The first two are must haves for everyone though!
  9. YES!!! PLEASE!!! I so desperately want to see it happen! I can't believe that I forgot about it until now! I was so fucking angry when I saw the leaked footage!! It was the holy grail we always wanted, it even happens to be the illustrious Wii Lightsabre game that every single Wii owner always pined for ever since the console was announced! It would've been a multi-million seller back on the day!! (It even supports the bloody Wii Wheel and Balance Board for pedals in the speederbike sections - it's even 2 player VS as well!!) It's an incredible tragedy that it was never released! It needs to be rectified!! And with Disney getting Lucasarts' back catalogue on PC released at long last, now's the perfect time! The people at Disney are clearly eager to exploit Lucasarts' back catalogue right now! Guys! Please make some noise!! It NEEDS to happen!!
  10. Playing the digital version of DKCR now and it's so nice! (I did get SMG2 as well, but the improvements are much less pronounced in that game). All the little loading hitches and pauses that the original game had, GONE! The game loads the map screen so fast that it doesn't even get halfway through the music loop before it's done loading! (and no waiting for the music to start and the HUD to load once the map screen appears! ) Definatley the best way to play! (and the speed runner's version of choice for sure ) I've wanted proper digital versions of Wii games for ages, but I was never satisfied with homebrew options (compatibility issues, glitches, nasty interfaces etc). This is just wonderful though! It works so seamlessly and flawlessly and the loading times are so much faster! (Not to mention that the Wii U Menu is a wonderful interface too!). No more rummaging through my shelves for Wii discs! (I probably won't re-buy everything from my Wii collection though, don't need stuff like Wii Fit/Wii Fit Plus or Metroid Prime 3 solus after all and I can do without some games like Madworld... but I'll get the majority of them at least!) Can't wait for the likes of Metroid Prime Trilogy and Smash Bros Brawl (those loading time improvements!!) or Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition (finally! Semi-portable RE4 - it DOES have full Classic Controller support after all, so it'll be fully controllable via the Gamepad's buttons/sticks ) I just hope that they add GCN games soon and that they have full feature parity with the US/JPN versions here in Europe (60hz/480p support across the board)... I want to be able to finally retire my US region Wii and just run everything off my UK Wii U! I just hope that Nintendo take this opportunity to restore Wii Connect 24 and WFC features with these re-releases... (Metroid Prime Trilogy uses Wii Connect 24, so that'll be an indicator of that, but we'll have to wait until something like Sin & Punishment 2 releases before we get a chance to see if they're doing anything about WFC games... I mean, it's simple enough to do and it's a strong selling point for these re-releases, just have the game connect to a different set of servers instead of the now defunct Gamespy/Glu Mobile ones...) Edit: OH SNAP!! I totally forgot!! This is also a chance for the cancelled Rogue Squadron Trilogy Wii collection to finally get released as well!! PLEASE DISNEY!!! PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN!! The game is already done!! Just release it and make free money! It's the Star Wars Wii game I always wanted!!! Please @Ashley! Anyone from N-Europe's staff! Please ask someone from Disney/Lucasarts if it can happen! Please!! I'm powerless to do anything on my own, but you guys can at least get in touch with someone! Let's get the ball rolling!
  11. It's going to be exactly the same as the Wii release, only with faster loading times, so yes. Pointer controls only.
  12. I'm pleasantly surprised at what I'm seeing! It's NOT Tekken! It reminds me of Powerstone, only without the jank and without the ugly unlikable cast! Also looks like a great fit for Hyrule Warriors style 2 player, with the Gamepad showing a completely different view from the TV for the 2nd player... ... and yes, Pikachu's animations are hilarious
  13. Ironically, the other consoles are also hampered by under performing CPUs too Particularily, they're really bad when it comes to single threaded performance - even something like the Resident Evil HD remaster is giving those CPUs trouble (that's a game that probably hasn't been really re-written to use multiple threads and ironically, would actually probably run better on Wii U - given its GCN derived CPU architecture and much better single threaded performance) The fact is that these engines could well be written for Wii U if these developers saw value in doing so. It's GPU feature set is certainly modern enough to support these engines like UE4 (even if the games ran in 720p instead of 1080p), but 3rd party developers just don't want to put the effort in because their audience simply isn't on Nintendo consoles. Hell the supposed "lack of power" hasn't stopped developers from creating cross-gen games up the wazoo for the PS3 and 360 (consoles that are certainly weaker than Wii U in every way). It's not even a big generational leap anyway (by far the smallest one ever), with graphical differences being relatively minor and mostly limited to resolution and some minor enhanced effects. Even if Nintendo's console was near identical with the PS4 in terms of raw specs, they'd still be getting hardly any support. Nintendo's 3rd party relation problems run far far deeper than specs...
  14. Yeah, but you can't get anywhere near the kind of performance that it offers in that sized chasis, nor can you get a custom, controller/remote friendly interface when you build it yourself. It's frustrating because it feels like it's really close to what I want, but it's just not quite there! If they came out with an improved version with everything I want fixed, I would buy it in an instant! Until then, MS still have a chance if they get a streaming solution working properly...
  15. I don't care if I have to pay more, I know that it's cheaper to build your own and that it would be more powerful, a custom built PC (even a mini ITX one - I have investigated the possibility before) is simply too big and doesn't work the way I want it to. I have a gaming PC already, I don't need another one. I want something like the Alienware Alpha but just a bit more powerful, with an interface that's a bit more seamless and one that works with my damn Harmony remote! (in case you haven't noticed, that's a real sticking point for me )
  16. I simply don't want a big massive PC next to my TV. I like my setup being as "invisible" and elegant as possible and a huge, noisy, power hungry monster of a PC (that wouldn't work seamlessly with my Harmony remote) just doesn't fit in with my setup. Something like the Alienware Alpha would be perfect for me if they just worked the kinks out of it and got proper Harmony remote support working with it (as well as an official Xbone wireless controller adapter, but that of course comes down to Microsoft pulling their finger out, so there's not much that anyone else can do about that...) I could accept an Xbone streaming solution if it worked as well as I would want it to, but that probably wouldn't happen (and even if it did, they'd probably balls it up somehow by requiring a Live subscription or some garbage limitation like that )
  17. I know that, but that's not what I'm looking for... What I want is a good solution for playing PC games on my TV. Right now, the Steamboxes on offer aren't quite there yet. Something like the Alienware Alpha is pretty close, but just not quite there yet (it's not quite powerful enough, the interface isn't quite seamless enough, no easy way to turn it on/off from my sofa or control it with my Harmony remote, and there is still no wireless adapter for the Xbone controller, which I prefer over the 360 controller, etc). Ideally, I wouldn't want to deal with video/gameplay streaming at all, but I still haven't seen a solution that quite hits the mark for me yet... Maybe we'll see something better at GDC, but for now, the idea of having official support for game streaming built into Windows 10 and the Xbone itself is pretty enticing, assuming that no better solution comes about via the Steamboxes...
  18. Now THIS is interesting... http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2015/01/21/microsoft-is-working-on-streaming-from-the-pc-to-the-xbox-one.aspx If they can get that working seamlessly and properly (admittedly, that's a BIG if though), they might well be able to sell me an Xbone...
  19. You have to remember though that these guys would be using the US store, which has a completely different layout (they don't have the same kinds of categories that we do, they don't even have a general Demos or Virtual Console category on the bottom carousel!) The US 3DS eShop layout is utterly horrible! The EU one is miles better! (Same thing as with Sony's PSN store, the US layout is utterly terrible while the EU one is better).
  20. The N64 is near enough 19 years old. That era is long gone and it is not coming back. At some point it becomes virtually impossible to "salvage" a brand in the minds of certain audiences. It's actually much easier to start again with a completely fresh one, like what Disney did with Touchstone. Saying that though, you have to ask yourself if it's really worth it. How much money do Sony and MS really make on their consoles? The answer is actually not a lot really; in fact, MS have lost far more money than they've made on the Xbox brand as a whole and Sony wiped out all of their profit made on PS1 and PS2 throughout the PS3 era. What makes it worth it to these companies is that it serves their wider interests as a whole (Blu-ray, Windows etc). Nintendo however has nothing other than games (at least, until QoL arrives that is!), so it's simply not worth it to get back into this money pit battle over a shrinking pie that MS and Sony are at each other's throats for. Besides, it's not what they want to do anyway. They just want to be able to make the games and products that they want to make, while making a healthy profit that offers them the security to carry on comfortably doing what they want to do. Chasing the dudebro dragon isn't in their DNA and it's a losing battle in the end, even if they somehow pulled off the greatest marketing and branding miracle ever devised by man. It just isn't worth it.
  21. What you don't seem to realise here is that the Xbox and Playstation brands are largely interchangable. They target the same audience and both consoles are basically identical outside of some reletively small things, so of course they can substitute for each other. Nintendo's consoles and brand however are like kryptonite to this audience, so they would not go within 10 miles of a Nintendo console, even if both the PS4 and Xbone had the original Xbone DRM and Nintendo offered free online and blowjobs with every purchase. If you're suggesting that Nintendo can suddenly undo the spell of 20+ years of competitor branding, undo all of their entire 35+ year history of "family friendly" branding as a games maker and steal away that massively socially concious audience that wouldn't be caught dead with "kid's toys" overnight, then congratulations! You are saying that Nintendo houses the greatest marketing & branding team who ever lived (and we all know that's definately not the case ) You are asking for the impossible here. Nintendo's branding is just completely incompatible with this audience. Correct. You know what was the biggest problem? The branding, it carries far too much baggage; what with Gamecube being labelled "The Kiddy Console" that should be glaringly obvious. If Nintendo didn't switch focus back with the Wii, they would be out of the market completely by now. It was a necessary move. The alternative would leave them high and dry with an even more expensive console, with even higher development costs and an even smaller audience. What they should be doing is bolstering their efforts in courting small independent developers and help build them up to become the next set of powerhouse studios. Now, that's not to say that they haven't already come a long way already, but they could and should be doing a lot more. There's no reason why they cant build up the likes of Wayforward into the next Retro Studios, or gather up the staff who split from Rare and help rebuild that studio into the powerhouse it once was. They should be laying a bigger foundation for the future through supporting the "indie scene" via directly funding these studios, because they're simply never going to garner the support of the big western publishers. Instead of trying to chase a waining giant like COD, they should be looking for the next Minecraft instead! Get these games out at retail too!
  22. Nah, it's cool. I wanted it changed to be more accurate anyway On that topic, I'm just gonna get it on 3DS. Don't really see any benefit to getting it on Wii U really, it's not like it was with Shovel Knight where each version had some value to it, plus you lose that all important S3D!
  23. Then they need to strike gold again, because chasing the EAs and Take Twos of this world is a lost cause. They represent the very opposite of what Nintendo is about and will never throw their support behind them properly. Likewise, this audience is fully entenched in the Xbox/Playstation ecosystem; brands which have had decades of expertly crafted KGOY marketing/branding aimed directly at the 10-25 male audience. An audience that is simply not going to ever move over to a "kiddy" toy maker. Nintendo have to continue to forge their own path but actually properly support the developers who are actually willing to follow them!
  24. Good interview, Dan is really very frank and also level headed. Nintendo evolves at a glacial pace (that's not always a bad thing mind you, it is what has allowed them to continue to focus on quality over all else and the long term over the short term after all!) and really could stand to bring down some layers of buerocracy. And they simply don't invest enough into the 3rd parties that do actually support them (how they still don't have a Sony Pub Fund style scheme in place, when they're so desperate for support, is beyond me!). He's also right when he speaks of the lack of major 3rd parties as a Chicken And The Egg scenario. But chasing the likes of Take Two and EA is largely pointless. A head on battle with MS and Sony is simply a battle that Nintendo cannot win. What they should be doing is funding and absorbing the risk of those other smaller indie companies who are willing to make games that take full advantage of their hardware and the occasional exclusive from Japanese or smaller Western 3rd parties. But either way, do read that interview! It's really good! (and listen to what he says about the Virtual Console! Quality emulation takes time people!)
  25. That doesn't mean that the brand is disappearing! It's just a catch-all category for all "classic" games and they've put the two sets of software together for simplicity's sake. Virtual Console specifically refers to emulated classic games (with a standardised set of extra features that come along with emulation); that's why it is called "Virtual" Console. These downloadable Wii games are not emulated, therefore they are not Virtual Console titles. Simple.
