The Super Smash Bros Series Daily Challenges Thread
Dcubed replied to Dcubed's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Well it looks like I have broken Glen-i's winning streak as he has failed to beat my NTSC time. Congrats to nekunando for his very impressive PAL time : peace: But with that, comes your 4th challenge! It's back to Melee for Home Run Contest! If you think you're getting away with using that old trick with those two characters for those utterly ludicrous distances, you can think again So with the exception of Ganondorf and Captain Falcon (because really, you wouldn't bother picking anyone else otherwise!), it's classic Home Run Contest fun! Wind up, and let Mr Sandbag fly! (he likes it anyway; no really it's true! Read the trophy description ) -

Your Ness time sucks @Glen\-i Also Mario is good at platforming, who knew? By my calculations that makes the NTSC time to beat, 42:33 :awesome: Ahh man, that's just bad You've gotta get back in there! I'll probably let this contest run up until midnight, just to give people a chance to get in one last time (that means you Glen-i ) -

Well there's a good chance of similar shenanigans with Crazy Smash. Anything could happen -
Was hoping to get an article up yesterday, but I ended up being short on time. That means that I am looking to get the article up late tonight (probably around 23:00 or so), meaning that you all have until then to post your thoughts here Thanks Jimbob for your contribution! : peace:

So the final brackets are now in place! @Glen\-i, @david\.dakota, @S\.C\.G, @nekunando, @The Mole, @Jimbob and myself will do battle across three different tourney brackets. Just to clarify, the rules for each bracket are as follows... On Saturday 28/11/15, we have... For Glory will play out much as you'd expect. No items, Omega Stages only (plus Battlefield), no customisations, no custom movesets. Miis can be used, but must use the default 1111 moveset. In this bracket, due to us only managing to gather 4 players, these matches will have a winner decided by best out of 3 games. On Sunday 29/11/15, we have... For Fun will of course be much more open and less restrictive than For Glory. Featuring all stages (including DLC stages), items on low and allowance for custom movesets. On Monday 30/11/15, we have... All stages are allowed, including DLC and custom stages. Items are on high, custom movesets are allowed and customisations are allowed as well. On top of that there will be an unannounced set of special rules in place that you will only see announced right before your match. Ok, so with that out of the way, just a few things I should note as well... You may change your character during the tourney at any time and do not have to stick to the one character all throughout. In terms of set up, I will be hosting all matches on my own Wii U across all three days. All players will need to add my NNID (Nuclear_Muffin) and just join me when their match is due to begin. I will lose all my stocks at the start of each match and then the battle begins. If your Mii's name is different from your username here on N-Europe, please let me know in advance so that I'll know who you are when you join. Ok! So with that out of the way and without further adieu, here are the brackets! All three tourneys will start at 20:30 and should end at 22:30 at the latest (For Glory will obviously be shorter since we only have 4 players in that one :p) Each match will be 3 stock (though some exceptions will be made in certain Crazy Smash matches) and will be set for 3 minutes. After each match, I will update the leaderboard in the first post here and I will make a new post whenever a match has finished with updated graphics and a graphic showing who is next and what rules are in place for Crazy Smash during this match. After each match, I am hoping that a 5 minute window will be long enough for each player to connect and for me to update the leaderboard. Apologies in advance if it takes a little longer, but if you can't connect for whatever reason during that time, I will have to disqualify you in order to keep the game going at a decent pace. If you wish to submit your own custom stages for use in Crazy Smash, you are more than welcome to send some to my Wii U. Please let me know in this thread if you have done so, so that I know to keep an eye out for them! And with that, we're all set for a Smashing time!

Nintendo Sweden website (check the compatible controller list) Ohohoho!!! Looks like good news has come our way! Dare I also hope for Wii Motionplus use? Will I finally get the 1-1 Ball and Chain controls that I always wanted? (probably not :p )

Great! So we've got enough for 8 man brackets for For Fun and Crazy Smash now! We could still do with more for For Glory though, but it looks like we're not gonna be able to do better than 4 players for that one sadly... Well I'm finalising the brackets now, so if you want to get in For Glory, now's your last chance! -
Yeah, don't let it get to you. Sounds like it went pretty well overall, but with you being so well known, you're always gonna get those people like in that Simpsons episode I know from personal experience that when you're doing live commenting on the spot like that (be it in person or streaming online) that it's really easy to miss things or slip up here and there. People don't always appreciate how tough it is when you've got eyes and ears on you. I hope you get to do nationals! I'd love to hear and see you commentating live!

23:97!? That's a hell of a time to beat for Break the Targets! Oh man, you don't make it easy for me do you? Still, you're on the NTSC bracket, so most people here don't need to fear you this time I'd go for Rondoudou, if only for the utterly hilarious German announcer (Just listen to the way he says "CAPTAIN FAHLCONN!!!!" and try not to burst out in tears of laughter!) -

So that's the end of Day 2's challenge and once again it seems that @Glen\-i has emerged victorious! Congrats to him again. That's not to say that @nekunando's time wasn't also very respectable, as the 5 minute mark is not an easy one to beat! : peace: But now it's time to head way back into the past for the 3rd day's challenge Yup! It's back to the first Smash Bros game on the good ol' N64 for this one! Do you miss Break the Targets from Smash 4? Do you miss Board the Platforms from... well, every single Smash Bros game since the original? Well I do too! So here comes your next challenge! While you are limited to Ness for Break the Targets, you may choose any character you like for Board the Platforms. It is up to you to find the Board the Platforms stage that you personally can complete the quickest as the overall winner will be the person with the fastest time when both times are aggregated together! Please post your best times from the character select screen, with your chosen character/best time highlighted in the shot as shown below... But wait, I hear some of you say. "What about those stinkin' cheats that are using the US/JPN NTSC versions? They're faster than my PAL version and there's nothing I can do about it!" Well, we have you covered there too, because we have two separate scoring categories in place! If you only own the European (PAL) version, please set your game language to either French or German before posting your high score picture with your selected character Naturally, the US NTSC version has no language select option in place and as such, is in English only; meaning that we can tell which version you are playing based on your screenshot. This also means that all pictures posted for this challenge in English will be considered to be US NTSC times. If you are playing the EU version and forget to change the language before posting, you will be putting yourself at a disadvantage by doing so. And if you do own the US NTSC version and feel that you'll end up being alone in posting your best time, don't be; because I will be taking part in this challenge myself and I happen to own the US NTSC version. Glen-i also only has access to the US NTSC version so you are guaranteed at least two other competitors in this category Let's get retro! : peace: -
There's a fairly short introductory sequence you have to go through before you get to play online. Probably about 20 mins or so?
-
Good catch! Stamps will be a nice addition, they're always fun Gonna miss being the only one with the Tri suit though; and there I was thinking I was special Nice. Hole throwing matches, here we come! If I get a chance later on, I'd be glad to join you for some games! : peace:

Surprised that you didn't berate them for their lack of content TBH. I mean, it makes sense, given that they are basically electronic versions of their classic physical toys/parlor games of the same name (as was Duck Hunt actually!), but a lot of people are really down on them for how dead simple those two games are; which is perhaps a bit unfair, but I get the feeling that many people going to them today would probably feel the same way. They're not quite as timeless as Duck Hunt, but they have a charm of their own. Personally, while I think they're fun, I actually think that those two games are more notable for their historic status, rather than how they stack up as light gun games today. For better or worse, they're pretty much perfect timeslices

The N-Europe Super Smash Bros Anniversary Tourney signup thread!
Dcubed replied to Dcubed's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Alright guys, we need at least one more person to fill out an 8 person bracket for the Sunday and Monday tourney (Really at least 2 would be ideal, but I can take part myself if we need the extra player) We need at least 4 for For Glory on Saturday though... (or else it'll be a pretty short tourney! I'll have to change the rules somehow!) It looks like we're going for around 20:30-22:30 for each bracket as that seems to be roughly everyone's preferred time. If anyone has any objections, please make them known! Either way, I'll be finalising the rules/brackets today; so don't miss out on all the fun we'll be having if you still want to join us! : peace: -
So if any of you have been paying attention to the main site, you'll probably have noticed that we're doing some one year anniversary celebrations of the release of Smash Bros Wii U! Whatever the memory, we're glad to see it shared here Pictures are also most welcome! Your comments will be presented, as is, in an upcoming Super Smash Bros Memories article, coming during this week. Post away! : peace:

Aaaaannnndddd we have a winner! It's @Glen\-i with a quality time of 2:10.33! : peace: Congratulations to @S\.C\.G, @Kaepora_Gaebora and @nekunando for their valiant efforts as well! Your scores will be posted on the main page later on (the back-end seems to be down for me right now, so I can't update it right now), but now with the first challenge come and gone, it's time for your next task... Presenting... Day 2! It's Cruel Smash, but not as you know it! Instead of this being a typical run of Cruel Smash where you attempt to KO as many opponents as you can, this challenge is all about surviving for as long as you can - the number of Miis defeated does not matter! Stay alive for as long as possible by any means necessary! Kirby, Jigglypuff, Pit, Villager, Metaknight, Dark Pit, Olimar and Duck Hunt Duo are banned from today's challenge because their insane jumps and recoveries make survival fairly trivial in comparison to everyone else (and that's just boring!) When posting your best time, be sure to take your picture on the results screen, as pictured below... Good luck and may the best staller/coward win! : peace: -

There's a really fantastic retrospective documentary on the life of Satoru Iwata here by The Gaming Historian... Very well produced and professionally done. Would definitely recommend a watch!

No subspecies in this game at all!? Well that should be interesting! As awesome as it is that every monster will be unique, a part of me will miss the crazy subspecies like Baleful Gigginox...

Yeah I've had to reupload my levels a few times as well, particularly some of the Bonus ones (and since I wanted to keep them all in a specific order, I had to re-upload everything that would come after the ones I edited as well in order to keep the correct order going)

Ok! The first challenge is a simple one. Post your screenshots/phone pictures here when you get a good score! Feel free to post more than one picture if you end up doing better than your first attempt later on! : peace: Just simply post a picture of the character select screen, showing your best time with your chosen character! -
It's even better than that! We're getting Ninja Gaiden 2 AND 3 this week! Wow!! That's an awesome week! Three games that I've yet to play that I've been wanting to for ages! (Ninja Gaiden 2, 3 and Bayou Billy - I know, I'm ashamed to admit that I've only played and beaten the first NG game on NES; I've been waiting for the Wii U one for ages!) Oh BTW, they're the 60hz versions for sure because they're going under the title of "Ninja Gaiden" and not "Shadow Warriors" Bayou Billy is another one I've been interested in for a while. I know that it's meant to be rather uneven, but it's also one of the most ambitious titles ever released for the NES; one of the first ever games to really bring multiple genres together to create something that doesn't neatly fit into any category. Pretty novel use of the Zapper as well, thankfully replicated here Plus it's basically discount Crocodile Dundee, and who doesn't like Crocodile Dundee? Alongside Bayou Billy, Double Dragon 3 was also never released on the Wii VC either, so this is the first time that has ever been re-released as well! Not really a fan of the DD games though, so I'll probably give this one a miss (unless anyone here can particularly recommend it to someone who isn't a huge fan of the beltscrolling Beat em' Up genre? I do like the Streets of Rage games and Guardian Heroes, but that's about it :p)
