Finally got round to giving it a go. Fun little TD game. Haven't found it very hard though; beaten Corneria and I'm hoping that it gets tougher...
-
Surely tank controls make the most sense for a tank? I mean... it IS a tank I agree that I'd like to have seen them do more with the story, rather than have it basically just retell Star Fox 64. That being said, they had some nice surprises in there I wasn't expecting...

Had that lying around on my PC for a while. Knew it would come in handy one day

Right! And here is the highlight video from the last NE-League night! I did this one myself, has been a while since I last did one and figured that @RedShell could do with a break. Enjoy! : peace:

Hey! You guys seen this? http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1211347 Looks like Monster Games might be working on a new racing game! (In Unity it seems... interesting... Perhaps it's what's needed for them to make a new game on their own these days? Remember that they're only a small team of about 30 odd people...)
-
Not really since they can make something else instead of two Mario Kart games, or two Mario Tennis games. We could have Mario Kart 9 and Luigi's Mansion 3 instead of MK9 and MK10 for instance... In essence, for games like MK or MT which would theoretically play on both handheld and console, it means that the audience for said games becomes larger, allowing them to make more money for making one game than they otherwise would.

I've done a couple of stupid little ones, but nothing big yet. It's so frustrating that there's no way to upload them in S3D, because that renders the main joke of my Flipnotes so far completely useless

Here's something you guys should get a kick out of... http://geekmelee.com/2016/04/star-fox-64-the-voices-that-echo-through-the-lylat-system/ An interview with some of the people who did the voice work for Star Fox 64 and Zero!

Nothing wrong with anything you've said. It is indeed a short experience and the value proposition is indeed very questionable as a result. It's just a difficult issue to approach because a big part of the game's appeal comes from the fact that it is indeed short and free of padding. So how do they go about straddling that line? I think it's an interesting question and I think that the approach they've taken here is an interesting one. You're absolutely right to call them out on it. Don't mean to tread on your toes here, just sparking a discussion that I thought was interesting

It's an arena based top down twin stick shooter; something that you can make on the cheap by reusing lots of assets and using automatic asset generation and randomisation. It's not a game which has the kind of intricate level design, elaborate enemy and boss design and such that Star Fox does... Star Fox is just stuck in that awkward position where it can't be made cheaply, but its design dictates that it needs to be short. So they need to find other ways to up the value proposition; be it including things like online multiplayer or Star Fox Guard in the package.
-
Star Fox's development budget demands a certain pricetag though. It's not a low budget title; the stages are large, detailed and the production values are huge. The game had two of the best Japanese studios behind it, a large number of development staff and support studios working on it (fun fact, Inis of Elite Beat Agents fame helped out in developing this one ) and a development cycle of around 1.5-2 years. There's no way it could be released as a budget title... Which has always been one of the big issues that has prevented us from getting proper SF games released that aren't filled with tons of padding and bloat, meaning that in order to justify the price tag... ... they chose not to add an online mode, but to include Star Fox Guard into the same package. A game with, by all accounts, a meaty single player component, with lots of stages and heavy online integration. I've not played Star Fox Guard myself yet, but it's certainly something not to be discounted when considering the full package you get for the price.

Not to rag on about SF Zero (I've done that enough this past week!), but I'd just like to point out that SFZero IS exactly like the first two games. What makes the first two games so great is that they're short and sweet, arcade style experiences that you play through over and over again for better scores. It's basically a 3D Shmup. You wouldn't want Gradius or Life Force to last for 40 hours and Star Fox is certainly in that same category. But yeah, if you're not interested in playing them for score, then this game isn't for you. That's kind of the whole point of Starfox, Starfox 64 and Starfox Zero (not so much the other SF games though).

I've missed using Motion Controls... It's been too long! They're awesome! (though you wouldn't know it from my performance tonight :p )
-
If you're using the Gamepad's motion controls, you do so from the pause menu while playing. If you're using the Wiimote on its own? Well... it's already on!

OH MY GOD THE DIALOGUE!!! YES!!! just... YES!!! This is the greatest story ever written for a video game!
-
We should rub it in IGN's face if it happens :p
-
Heh, yeah. Sad when you think of it like that, but it's either that or take the Polygon Yellow Journalism route (no, really, fuck those guys. Their SFZero "review" is just pathetic) and use controversy and clickbait to get those views. Unlike them, we don't get paid to do this though, so naturally we're the more professional ones While it's nice to get recognised, I'm more interested in taking an honest approach (that 9/10 is absolutely well earned) and just focusing on putting out the best content we can for our readers. If that means that we don't get the spotlight, so be it :p
-
Nice! Also, another thing they nicked from us... [tweet]723096515313582081[/tweet] Think you can get away with hocking Throwback Thursday off as your own idea by misspelling it? Think again. I'm onto you guys

The worst thing about that Star Fox short is that it makes me want a full anime series now...
-
Come on guys! Let's fill out those brackets! Get IN! and get involved in the Smash insanity! : peace: Should note that I will be livestreaming everything as well!

Fine then, SEGA CD is probably a closer comparison. Lots of releases that appeared on both MD and SEGA CD. Point still stands :p Don't see anyone screaming for it. Consumers aren't gagging for it, devs aren't happy about it and Sony already have the most powerful console, so it's not a tactical advantage on that front. Way I see it is that the only people who want it are Sony's execs who want 4K content for their TVs...
-
I know I've said this before, but is this really happening? Is Sony really gonna go ahead and pull a 32X here!? I know they're desperate for content to sell their 4K TVs with, but geez! Come on! You're smarter than SEGA Sony!
