  1. It's hard to say how they're gonna get the message across when we don't know what the message is yet. The challenge of getting the 3DS and Wii U across was VERY different from DS and Wii; with the latter being something you could very easily show, while the former required a more in-depth explanation and a hands-on approach. If we assume that the leaks are real though, then I don't think that they're gonna focus so much on selling the hardware itself, but rather they're gonna focus on selling the ecosystem as a whole; with the focus being placed squarely on their exclusive software (playable at home or on the go). While the motion controls are seemingly a step up from the Wii Remote, it's not something you can really show easily on TV, so why bother trying if people will just think it's the same as the Wii they already own? Unless there's something else that is immediately obviously new about the controls, there's no point in trying to explain them in advertisement; they'll only be able to demonstrate them by doing worldwide public demo events. So focus on selling the ecosystem/exclusive games library in their above-the-line marketing and focus on the hardware and the nitty gritty in their below-the-line efforts. Those celeb adverts would be VERY expensive though... (Getting rid of them is half the reason why Nintendo started making profit again during this generation). Nintendo didn't start advertising the DS and Wii with them, they only started using them after the DS and Wii were already a success (they did do some 3DS ones early on, especially during Zelda's 25th anniversary, but that didn't seem to do much for them at the time). Far from being a silver bullet, it only really works once you've already got a hit on your hands.
  2. One thing I've thought that they might do is have parts of the game stored on the handheld and some on the dock/console. So, say a game has a "mobile" and "console" mode. The mobile mode would use lower res textures and models, while the console mode would use higher res versions for the sake of example. If that were the case, why not just store the lo-res stuff on the handheld alone and have the the high res stuff on the console? That way, you can save a lot of space on the handheld that you would otherwise be wasting on detail that you can't use there anyway. The Game Card would of course, store both and the game would just select the appropriate assets automatically.
  3. I was talking about the Game Card storage, not the internal storage. I think they should aim for 64GB minimum for internal flash personally (I really doubt they'd go any higher than 128GB). Obviously the thing will support SD Cards/USB as well for additional storage.
  4. 32-64GB carts are plenty big enough. No Wii U game ever took up more than 25GB anyway (and as Redshell rightfully pointed out, Nintendo's own games take up waaaaayyyy less than that).
  5. That's amazing!!! I never even thought about how they'd get around that! What's even more amazing is that I only just realised that all the Mii colours are an almost perfect match for the DS' System Settings colours! A few shades are ommited, but all the main colours are there That means that it was planned all along from the start!
  6. No. You can only transfer content from one 3DS to another using a local System Transfer with both consoles present. If you haven't deleted your account though, Nintendo might be able to recover it for you though if you ring them up and explain your situation though.
  7. Hey @RedShell, they're trying to fight the Braccy on their own right now. I tried (and failed) so now I've made a new room if you want to try again! Edit: Scratch that, Glen has made a room instead (he failed too )
  8. I don't think it is. If it were Pikmin 4, then it would have the name "Pikmin 4", none of this wishy-washy tentative name nonsense. This game has probably been in the making since before Pikmin 3 even came out. Miyamoto did mention that they'd done lots of different experiments in making a Pikmin game for both the DS and 3DS over time, but they didn't end up making them into full games because they felt that it wasn't enough like the existing games to be considered a "Pikmin" game. So the fact that they're actually going ahead with this (and the fact that it lacks a number in the name) means that they consider this a spinoff.
  9. BOTW was never announced for March to begin with. It wasn't even announced as an NX launch title, just that it would be coming to the NX at some point. The Wii U version could launch first for all we know.
  10. I suppose they probably aren't allowing online uploading because the 3DS version can't handle the full size/weight of levels and items that the Wii U version can, so they don't want to muddy the waters so to speak... But not allowing you to transfer your levels to Wii U (even if it's one way only) is just so mindbogglingly stupid that it's actually typical of Nintendo Also, why not take the opportunity to introduce Mario Land 1 & 2 themes? If you can't make it match the Wii U one, why not make it a bit special in of itself?
  11. Fixed that for you That game was awesome BTW! So I'm naturally more than ok with a spiritual successor!
  12. Me, first thinking that this was Advance Wars 3DS... Looks like it could be fun though.
  13. Streetpass support is nice, collab feature is nice, lack of online? Deal breaker. Can't even share stages with the Wii U version locally? Literally no point in getting it if you already have the Wii U version
  14. In for the shorts, not so interested in a demake of YWW though. Put the extra stages up as DLC for the Wii U version and I'll buy them though.
  15. So it's basically Kirby Mass Attack 2? I'm ok with this!
  16. Going by the copyright notice at the end of the Japanese ND (check the 3rd row on the left most column), Golf and Tennis are made by Camelot, while the rest are made by someone else... So it seems that this is going to be a bit like Wii Play Motion/Streetpass Plaza. A jam session game where different developers make different parts of the game.
  17. Gonna guess that it's gonna be a Mii RPG game based on Streetpass Quest and Tomodachi Life from Sakamoto's team. The logo speaks to me...
  18. Finally caught up with it! Got plenty to say about this (all kinds of WTF!?!? going on here), but I'm just gonna say one thing for now... There is no way that the NX is coming out in March. No way in hell. Mii Plaza getting such a big update at THIS point in the 3DS' life speaks volumes...
  19. I'm in the same boat. Ignoring everything that's gonna come out of it till I watch it is gonna be hard...
  20. Yeah same. I'm not expecting anything hugely shocking, but I just miss seeing everyone presenting! Hopefully they do something wacky this time around... Would be cool to see everyone dress up as Dragon Quest characters Nope. My money's on about 30-40 mins though.
  21. I can't really speak for Will, but Glen-i is away at the moment, so I don't think he'll be joining in this week...
  22. I concur. This game is good stuff. A touch repetitive, but a really solid and unique game. Well worth a pickup
  23. This is a tough one to call... I think that there's a few things that I can safely say in broad strokes though. Overall, 3rd party games were much stronger on the DS than the 3DS. This isn't that controversial really, mobile has decimated everything and 3rd party support has plummeted as a result. There is still some REALLY good stuff mind you (especially in the action game genres, like Monster Hunter, stuff that never got much of a look in on the DS back in the day), but the DS' support was much stronger. Overall, there are much fewer experimental games on the 3DS than DS. That's not to say that we didn't get odd ball stuff like Dillon's Rolling Western, Pocket Card Jockey etc, but it's safe to say that the 3DS' library is more traditional in nature than the DS was. Overall, 1st party support for the 3DS was stronger than the DS. While the DS technically had more releases for it, it's not hard to see that Nintendo put more of their development muscle behind the 3DS than the DS, to the point where it came at the detriment of their console. We saw big budget 3DS games of the kind that you simply just never got on the DS; even at the top end. Looking back at the DS' library as well. Something that really strikes me is just how lacking the DS library is in terms of pick-up-and-play games; most of the games worth playing are actually the kind that are more in-depth and ask for longer play sessions. It's also very RPG heavy and very light on action titles and out of the games that are good for short play sessions, most of them came out during the first year or so of the DS' life. As such, the 3DS actually satisfies as a handheld console much moreso than the DS does for me. So while it's tough, for that above reason, I'm gonna go with the 3DS. It just has better genre coverage for myself and more variety in how you have games suited for short and long game sessions and much more in the way of action titles. BTW: For all of those citing 999, you do realise that the 3DS has both VLR AND ZTD as well right?
  24. Also if we're ever gonna get Jam with the Band P and Theatrhythm Dragon Quest over here, this is probably our last chance... So here's hoping!
  25. Just thinking about the RSI you must've developed from those games makes my wrists hurt :p On the other hand, you must be a beast at drawing Kirby now!
