  1. Awesome! Death to proprietary charges!
  2. About time we finally got another N64 game that wasn't released on the Wii VC! Will be my first time playing it!
  3. http://www.gonintendo.com/stories/269675-f-zero-x-gets-updated-to-fix-control-issues-on-wii-u F-Zero X just got an update for the dead zone issue. Give it a try!
  4. I do think that they've kind of set themselves up for trouble with all of these extra DLC updates... These came out because they promised them with the initial Kickstarter (which they felt they needed to do in order to ensure that they had enough funding to make the game and get themselves off the ground - which, worryingly, actually wasn't enough - they ran out of money 3 months before the game finished development and had to survive off of personal funds and ramen until they could release it) and it's great that they've kept their promises, but it does set a dangerous precedent for themselves. Yeah, Shovel Knight turned out to be a huge success, but that doesn't mean that their next game will be. With these DLC updates, they have kind of been overly generous, meaning that people might end up expecting similar treatment with their next game, even if YCG can't afford to do that... I hope for their sake that they don't get stuck in a similar situation again. It's great that they can and are doing this with SK, but they might end up really struggling to survive if they do it again next time...
  5. Because Nintendo has a gag order on every 3rd party releasing games for it right now? (Bethesda can't even talk about Skyrim Switch, despite it featuring in the reveal trailer), because Ubisoft leak info all the time? (remember all the Project Cafe leaks? Yup, they came from Ubisoft. And that's saying nothing about the many many leaks of their own throughout the years, like with the AC games). It's really quite remarkable just how useless they are at keeping secrets! They spring more leaks than a sunken ship
  6. Unbelievable. How can one company leak so much!? And so consistently too! They can't keep a secret to save their lives!
  7. Love the new look, though I'm gonna miss compulsively clicking my Mii to hear its stupid little sounds over and over again...
  8. Pretty sure that Playtonic expressed an interest in an "NX" version in an interview before. I'd be really shocked if it didn't happen at some point, considering that the Wii U is meant to be the lead platform for development... Not at launch mind you, they're only around 20 people! (hell, they're actually not handling the PS4//Xbone versions; only the Wii U and PC ones as Team 17 are taking care of porting duties), but down the line? Probably :p
  9. To be fair, it IS Skyrim Special Edition, so it's not vanilla Skyrim... Hey, I never said it wasn't butt ugly still
  10. I was referring to the uptick in 3DS and Pokemon game sales post Pokemon Go, rather than the popularity of Go itself. It's much larger in the west than in Japan.
  11. I reckon that all that stuff is gonna be integrated into Miiverse itself. So the rumoured "share" button (that is probably the mystery button that we've seen on the controller) probably handles all Miiverse functionality. Seems like a no brainer really. You already have your own built-in, curated and moderated social network that you've spent 5 years building, use it! Not officially, but Monster Hunter Cross Cross (the Japanese version - yes that's its actual name) is due for release on March 17th, the same day as the rumoured worldwide Switch release date... (plus the totally-obviously-what-they're-going-with-totally-not-just-made-up-by-me-name-for-the-western-version also kinda hints at it too) Take from that what you will...
  12. Pokemon Go's effect is largely confined to the west, where pre-orders have been up substantially over ORAS (no data to compare it to for X/Y, but it is supposedly very similar). X/Y got 7 million copies shipped worldwide for launch, while Sun/Moon have had 10 million for launch. So the potential for beating it out substantially is indeed there; we'll just have to wait for sales data from the west...
  13. Well with Mario Kart at least, there's some obvious substantial changes (having two items at once is a big deal - and that's not even getting into the rumoured 16 additional tracks and a proper battle mode), so that's a yes. Splatoon? Who knows? Smash Bros also has some obvious things that would make it a must purchase that they can do quite easily (combining both the 3DS and Wii U versions into one - adding the Ice Climbers and Rayman back in who were both cut from Smash 4 before - add more retro stages), so they're looking good there with this one at least. I can see them offering discounts for Kart and Splatoon, but I can't see it happening with Smash. I reckon they'll get away with charging full price for that one. I wonder what they'll do with Xenoblade X though. It's not exactly lacking for content as it is! Is more content even really necessary? BTW, I just realised that out of the three 3rd party games coming to the Switch that we know about, one is a port of a port (Skyrim), while the other is a port of a port of a port of a port of a port (Monster Hunter Cross Generations). Only Rabbids Meet Mario RPG Boogaloo would actually be new
  14. These ports are quite frankly, the sensible thing to do. Not only does it give these games a second chance at life, but it's also the only realistic way that they can get a broad number of and a wide variety of games out during such a short timeframe. They really need to explode out of the gate with Switch and they're basically having to do it on their own (save for three games from 3rd parties that we know are coming any time soon. These being Skyrim Switch, Monster Hunter Cross Generations and Rabbids Meet Mario RPG Boogaloo). How else could they possibly do it? HD games take too long to make and take up too many resources for them to fill the launch window with anything else. They have no choice but to salvage as much as possible from Wii U (be it ports of released games, or ports of cancelled and upcoming games, like Pikmin 4 and Zelda BOTW). Hell, it's not even just Nintendo! Just look at the PS4 and Xbone and other 3rd parties. A large chunk of (and in many cases, the majority) of their respective recent outputs comes in the form of ports and re-masters of older games. Why? Simple. Because new games take too long to make, they need to fill their software schedule somehow. At least here, they're adding new content to each of them so that they're not just straight ports. They've got something new to offer to people, even to people who've played their original versions before.
  15. I can understand people feeling like it's too similar to Triple Deluxe (it is after all, an asset reuse sequel on the same console), but I feel that it is just such an improvement in the aspects that Triple Deluxe gets wrong that it makes up for it. Taken on their own, out of context of their release dates, Robobot is the better game for me for sure. The pacing alone is just so much better! It's so much faster! None of the nonsense with waiting around for the game to catch up to you! I also think that Robobot has the best take on the whole Super Ability idea that Kirby's Adventure Wii started. I was a bit skeptical of it at first, but it works extremely well and feels like they finally got the animal buddy concept right that they tried to pull off, but never quite got right, in Kirby's Dreamland 2 and 3. It adds tons of variety and player choice in how to tackle a level, instead of taking it away like the animals did and doesn't feel one note like how Hypernova and (to a much lesser extent), the Super Abilities do. And I don't take that to mean that Triple Deluxe is bad either, on the contrary it's spectacular! Out of the modern Kirby trilogy (Kirby's Adventure Wii/TD/Robobot), it's my least favourite, but it's still great (In particular, TD is the best when it comes to boss battles - the ones in Kirby's Adventure Wii are a bit limp, while Robobot's reuses too many past ideas for my liking). For me, I'd rank the modern Kirby trilogy as follows. Kirby's Adventure Wii>Robobot>>Triple Deluxe (bear in mind that I think they're all brilliant).
  16. Literally around 60-70% of all Wii U owners own a copy of MK8 (and that's not an exaggeration, that's the actual attach rate!) and it's around 40% for Splatoon IIRC. I don't think Nintendo will care all that much if a few people abuse the system, since the grand majority already own these games proper anyway. If they're gonna do it for disc copies (it could well be digital discounts only, who knows?) that seems like the most sensible way to do it to me.
  17. Maybe a check to see if you downloaded the DLC/updates? If you have it, you must also have the game itself no?
  18. Laura Dale's current 2017 list for Switch... Seems like a pretty good starting list to me! (Guess I'm waiting for the Switch version of The Silver Case then!)
  19. I think that it implies a less bloated and slow OS than what the Wii U had and a leaner approach to OS stuff than before (that's a good thing). Like you said, 360 has done much more with much less before (can you believe that it did everything it did with its OS in just 32MB of RAM!? Crazy!). I reckon that's more than enough for things like webbrowsing, party chat and multitasking. It also shows that they have their priorities right this time and that future versions of Switch might end up adding more OS features as they get more memory (just like how iPhones do).
  20. Oh! Eiji Aonuma just won a lifetime achievement award at the 2016 Golden Joystick awards! Give it a watch! There's a nice little speech from Aonuma that goes over a few things, including his love of Sherlock Holmes!
  21. I just realised something... The name Pokemon Stars... it's not just something that makes sense alongside Sun/Moon, it's actually a genius pun! I feel so dumb for only cottoning on now! Poke... monStars! Bloody hell that's amazing! It's come full circle!
  22. 10 months, 4 months. It doesn't matter, the sentiment is the same. It was planned from the beginning and TPC are deliberately withholding both content and information about this version so that they can trick people into buying a version that they know will be made redundant within a year. It's no different from what Capcom did with Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3 and it's not a practice I can support. Anyway! An interesting rumour is circling around GAF that actually spells some good news! Apparently, Switch is using 0.8GB of RAM for the OS and 3.2GB for games! That's great news! It's a much more generous split for the games themselves than I had expected (it gives Switch games over 3 times as much memory to work with than what the Wii U had. For reference, PS4/Xbone have 5GB dedicated to games, Switch supposedly has 3.2GB and the Wii U had 1GB). Given that Switch has the advantage of Game Cards on its side, with their fast read speeds, it should mean that the RAM in place won't pose much of an issue for multiplatform releases!
  23. Pokemon Yellow didn't come out 4 months after Red/Blue on an entirely different console...
  24. From what I've heard (and this came from the same source that told me about the Rabbids/Mario RPG prior to today's reveal), Pokemon Stars (known back then as Pokemon Rainbow - hence my confusion earlier) was planned for release as a day 1 Switch title. Now that might have changed, but that's not the point. The point is that it was or still is planned to release within a year of Sun/Moon's release and it shows that they are purposely cutting out content so that they can sell it to us as a full price game again later on, as it is the only way that they could get out a 3rd version (on an entirely new platform no less!) in such a short timeframe. It's not the same situation as previous 3rd version releases, which were released several years after their initial release and were substantial expansions that clearly had a lot of time and effort out into them. This crap they're trying to pull here is no better than what Capcom pulled with Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3; which they rightfully got their testicles grilled over a toasty fire for. Quite frankly, I think this move is incredibly disrespectful to us as consumers. It's not even the fact that a Switch version is coming that pisses me off (I'm planning on buying a Switch anyway), it's the deceitful way that The Pokemon Company (TPC) is carrying this out that pisses me right off. If they were upfront about the Switch version coming along, like Nintendo were with Zelda Breath of the Wild, I'd be absolutely fine with it; hell, I'd probably buy both versions! But no, they tried to pull a fast one on me, so instead, they get nothing. Fuck 'em! I'd expect this kind of shit from EA or Activision, not from a series so closely associated with Nintendo! Quite frankly, we deserve better treatment than this! And it's something that has been systematic of TPC for a while now. This is just the next in a disturbingly lengthy streak of deceptive and manipulative tactics from TPC in the last few years, with their F2P scam games like Pokemon Rumble World and Pokemon Shuffle, to their dodgy TCG online game, to their Skinner Box esc Pokemon Go and their disgusting gen wunner pandering, to the detriment of the games themselves over the last few years. I don't like the path that the series and franchise is going down one bit. I'm very very tempted to just skip Gen 7 altogether now. TPC feels like a cancerous arm that needs to be exorcised from Nintendo and the Pokemon series at this point and unless things change, I can't support this crap. People shouldn't be manipulated and deceived like this. It's not right.
  25. That's a dick move from TPC period. Unbelievable that they're planning on putting out a superior 3rd version in such a short timeframe. And right after Xmas too. All those 3DS' they're gonna sell over Xmas? Oh, little Timmy wants to buy Pokemon Stars after he just got his shiny new 3DS? Nah mate, you've gotta now spend £250 for a Switch and a copy of the game. Too bad mate.
