  1. I admit I would consider one of those bundles IF I had a TV capable of HD or progressive scan (heard bad things about X360 games in SD). Premium with two games and two controllers for £300 sounds nice. Of course, my first choice is still the Wii.
  2. Sorry, but Metroid is a 2007 game now. It won't be at launch.
  3. QFT! They look like the arms of an old man. I was just looking at the new screens of other games on IGN Wii, and they look so much better than this lazy port. Pangya has very pretty trees (I do realise they are different games, but the difference in quality is clear). I'm sorry to be so harsh, and I do realise the Far Cry team put work into the controls, but the graphics are so unbelievably shoddy! Compare and contrast with Red Steel.
  4. I'm sorry, but if Far Cry looks that bad with all those murky-as-pea-soup trees, then I'm not getting it. We have all seen that the Wii is capable of better graphics than that. It looks worse than Koei's Sengoku Wave game, which is quite a feat. For Ubisoft's sake, I hope the final product is much better than this.
  5. Richard Hammond is one of my favourite TV presenters, and Top Gear is my favourite show, so I was shocked to read about this when I woke up. I'm glad to hear his condition is improving now, I hope he pulls through and makes a full recovery.
  6. Also, note that the £30 coupon DOES NOT WORK if you want to pay by credit card. The 20% discount did not seem to apply either, the final total showed no reduction so I cancelled the order. Ah well, it was worth a try. I'll wait for GAME or Gameplay.
  7. Ah well, never mind. The guys at Datel will be happy. :P There'll always be some way to work around the region lock, hopefully without the need for a soldering iron or screwdriver.
  8. Sorry, I was thinking launch window! If Excite Truck doesn't make it, that's a real shame, but the launch day lineup still looks good so far (what little we know of it).
  9. I agree that the launch is fine as is. I would prefer that Nintendo spread out their big hitters over time rather than have them all go at once. I don't want to experience the horrible drought DS had in its first months of life ever again. I'm very happy with Wii Sports, Zelda and Excite Truck. Probably get Rayman from Ubisoft as it sounds good, plus I want to support their commitment to Wii. Then maybe Red Steel if it gets good reviews. I think that 1 or 2 big games every couple or so months, supported by plenty of decent titles would keep most of us happy. On topic, it's really amusing to see that the 1up guys were obviously enjoying themselves despite saying all those negative things. XD
  10. The Wii will work with wireless modem/routers out of the box just like the DS. If your modem is compatible with the DS, then there shouldn't be any problems.
  11. Aha, yes, new colours would also be a good move.
  12. To be honest, I'm not convinced any price drop would be effective. The PS3 is going to come in at over £400 anyway! Even if Nintendo hold the price steady at £180, that's a massive difference of at least £220. And it's unlikely there'll be a game included with the PS3. A price drop might happen if Microsoft drop the core 360's price, but not for the PS3 launch, I don't think. I agree that the best weapon Nintendo could use - asides from trumpeting the Wii's value for money - is one or two massive game launches. Or even major new Wii Channels.
  13. It is, but they also have branches in Ireland.
  14. It is good news. I'm currently keeping my eyes peeled on Amazon.co.uk and Gameplay, and have e-mail alerts for them. I've already got a preorder on Play.com, but I want to see if they have better/equal prices, plus they'll have choice of postage so maybe there'll be a better chance of a preordered Wii arriving on launch day. I just hope they don't start and then sell out while I'm at work. :P
  15. Good thread. I admit I was a little disappointed with the price of the Wii, but that was simply because I had been hoping Nintendo would target the general public with it. While £180 might be a bit too high for Joe Non-Gamer, it does make sense at this point. Because the first people to buy a Wii WILL be gamers! To a gamer, £180 is a reasonable price for a new console. When all the gamers have their brand new Wiis, Nintendo can probably drop the price for the non-gamers. I doubt that there'll be a drop for the PS3 launch, since Sony's monolith is going to be £400+. :P I actually think the VC prices are fine. You'd pay more for old games on Ebay and at game shops! Plus, downloading emulators and ROMs is HIGHLY ILLEGAL. Compared to those options, the Virtual Console is a nice legal way of getting old games at reasonable prices. My only concern is the combined price of the Wiimote and nunchuck, makes it a little hard to be able to afford a total of four controllers. But at least Play.com has good reductions on those.
  16. Ok, I'm confused. Is Perrin Kaplan right? Or is it David Yarnton? Personally, I think I trust Perrin more because she's so adamant about Wii being region-free (with choice of lock for publishers). I don't want to get my hopes up, but she wouldn't keep saying that if it wasn't true. Or Reggie would have kicked her ass. Either way, I agree we NEED someone to set things straight once and for all! Maybe Iwata , Shigsy, or Reggie?
  17. Wii Fund: £300 Wii Target: £380 (maximum) 79% of the way. I've already covered for the stuff I want with the £300, but I'm very tempted to get a couple more games (EXCITE TRUCK!) when the final launch day game list is announced. Please, please let Excite Truck be there...
  18. Opinions on the Wii's graphics always seem to go from one extreme to the other. :P "It sucks! It's not even PS1/N64/Gamecube quality!" (just quoting in general from several threads I have read through) I know the Wii is no PS3 or 360, but I'm satisfied with the graphics so far (besides, in my personal opinion, I think the art direction is more important than photorealistic stuff). It's important to remember that what we are watching are videos of WORKS IN PROGRESS. A month back, people were complaining about Red Steel. Now they say it looks great. COD3 is no exception. It's a work in progress. Placeholder textures and stuff. Plus, it's not healthy to keep looking at the grass on the other side of the fence ("the grass on the other side is always greener"). As long as Wii looks good, with smooth framerates, I'm happy.
  19. It's looking good. The explosion and smoke effects are nice. I don't own a COD game, but I did try a demo on the PC and enjoyed it. So I might consider this sometime in the future.
  20. Devon doesn't have many big towns (at least not on a nationwide view), but I can hope that Nintendo either stop by Plymouth or Bristol in nearby Avon. Exeter would be perfect but I'm not holding my breath.
  21. Thanks to Cubed3 for the news. http://www.cubed3.com/news/5966/1/Nintendo_Plans_UK_and_Ireland_Wii_Roadshow I'll certainly be looking out for details, and hope that it will stop somewhere in Devon (or Bristol at a stretch)!
  22. I'm praying that this will be a UK launch game. At first I was a little indifferent about ExciteTruck, but this game has just looked better and better, and more and more fun. If this game has eye-melting speed... imagine what F-Zero Wii would be like.
  23. I'm with Phube. I have a PC and a digital camera. It's fine for flicking through photos and playing videos, but it's not exactly something you could just sit your family in front of. It would be perfect to put a slideshow/movie on a SD card, slot it into the Wii, and play. The TV should be much bigger than a PC monitor AND the Wii's interface looks a lot simpler and swishier. The only part I may not make much use out of is the photo editor, but not everyone has a photo editor - or even a PC!
  24. Maybe http://www.amazon.co.uk - but their delivery prices could hurt. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=11072981 (delivery prices to ROI) Gameplay will deliver games and accessories, but not consoles. I checked out a few others, but no go. Sorry.
  25. Plus, if you wait for launch-day deals before picking games, there is the risk that the games you want may sell out. That is doubly true for Zelda - remember the Ocarina of Time launch. Maybe best to preorder what you definitely want, then you can probably find some decent deals for optional games.
