Interesting that. Obviously I don't like the sound of that "Family Play" option for the gameplay, but I can see how the little 'un might go for that when she plays mum or whatever. But overall I think this is going to be great. The gameplay looks much snappier than last year, but I suppose we say that every year don't we?

I agree with that. I've been playing PES6 on the PC using a similar angle of play just to get myself prepared, and it's actually really surprised me just how different the game feels. In a good way. I think a Kop view like this is a great idea. It all hinges on the controls now. Please don't fluff it up EA!

New FIFA08 Wii videos from Leipzig. I think that looks much sweeter than the previous video. They've really improved the pace of the ball this year by the looks of it. I'm really looking forward to this. I'm almost ashamed to be excited about a FIFA game, but dammit this looks like it's going to be good!

Tremendous news! I'm still buying FIFA this year, but I cannot wait to play a Wii-ified version of PES. Bring it on!

I can't see a PES title making it out for the Wii this year for Europe. They've not listed it, there's been no hype and it's not like you can pre-order it anywhere. I'd love to see it, and would buy it in a heartbeat, but I'm not getting my hopes up until I see something tangible. FIFA08 is looking good thus far for Wii (apart from some of the graphics close up - yuk!), but I would still buy a Wii PES if it was coming out. Where have you seen it listed King_V?

I've got a lot of hope for this one. FIFA07 was a tremendous football game, and I like the sound of how EA are implementing the Wii remote. Hopefully it won't all go pear-shaped and we'll end up with a very kinetic game of footie on the Wii. Which will be especially sweet considering Konami aren't bringing us PES.

I got one yesterday too, and it's effect in the house has been explosive. So far I've just got Sports and Resident Evil 4, but it's certainly enough to be getting on with. Planning to get Excite Truck next. Funny that, after years of playing games with regular controllers, it does take some adjusting to the motion sensing. I was shocked to see my missus and the kiddie destroy me on the Sports games, and Resi 4 was a bit of a culture shock. I've played the GC version nearly to completion, so thought this was the ideal time to play it through again. After a bit of acclimatising, you really start to understand Nintendo's approach and what they are trying to achieve.

Like most people here I'm actually quite surprised by this announcement. I think that although they've not fully committed resources to the Wii (or seemingly not anyway), they've actually not done too bad a job of it so far. From what I gather the Wii version of Madden is the biz, with the motion sensing really put to good use. And although the Wii FIFA08 looks a bit similar to last years Xbox version, I still think it'll be a great game. NFS: Carbon was a let down though. The news that they're going to create more new IP for Wii is tremendous however. I only hope that doesn't result in mis-reading what Wii players want, and we end up with mini-game extravaganzas. I have a feeling they'll make a good show of it though.

In Your own Opinion Was The Cube A Failure?
K-project replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
I suppose "failure" is one way of looking at the GC's (mis)fortune's. But for me a better way perhaps of looking at it is the Gamecube was never quite what it should've been. For me the biggest problem by far was Nintendo's inability to get the Japanese gamer on board. Sony with it's PS2 secured all the best licenses, such as PES and FF etc, leaving the GC catalogue looking thin in comparison. Once the Japanese decided they were buying Sony, it meant Nintendo were going to struggle on the software front, with only really their firstparty titles left to make the sell. Pity really, and I do hope though, that the Wii doesn't suffer the same fate. I'd love to see a Wii PES or Katamari. Maybe if the Japanese public take to it, it'll happen. -
I don't think that any of this is as amazing as it sounds, and is actually quite easily feasible surely. The only issue here is the idea that it could quite easily backfire. While I really don't mind the new name at all, I do reckon it could be a very very clever marketing ploy that they will expose at E3 with another new name. At the end of the day, the entire world's forums were talking about Wii yesterday. You can't buy that kind of consumer focus on any one product. The new Nintendo console could be absolutely huge indeed.

Top, top game - and I still prefer it to the sequel. Dunno why....maybe it just feels a bit meatier than the second game. There's so many good reasons to keep your DC around, and Soul Calibur is but one of them!
-
Heh, tell me about it! It'd be the one game that would bring me back to gaming. Even if it turned up on the GatesBox360 I'd get it. I still reckon it will eventually happen. I try not to listen to all the naysayers who keep telling us to give it up. I still believe!!

Why doesn't MP2 come out as Player's Choice?
K-project replied to ...'s topic in General Gaming Discussion
No point in Player's Choice because a load of sad Nintendo die-hards would only shun it anyway! Honestly, and I'm not referring to the good folk on this site, but I read on another forum how they refused to buy Player's Choice games because they were a different colour on the spine and didn't match! There were a few people who felt this way, and they became - most vocal! - when challenged. WTF?? I don't care whether the spine "matches" or not, if it's a good price, it gets bought. It's this type of attitude that ensures GC games are often the most expensive when it comes to second hand titles. I have loads of Player's Choice titles. -
I fully agree with you. They are both 2 sheets of the same song. Nobody could honestly pick one over the other. Such is the richness of each game. I'm so glad you loved it Stocka! People seem to either love it or hate it, but to me if someone has the time to enjoy it, they always end up loving it. Shenmue has been very recently tinged with no small amount of sadness for me, because I have come to realise that gaming has died for me since. Every game feels soulless to me now, that not even a new Zelda could fix. With Shenmue, I realised that these are the types of game I want to play, but they aren't the types that the industry wants to make. They're much happier making quick buck games like FIFA etc. So it is with no small amount of sadness that I have very recently decided to sell my gear (excepting the Dreamcast and the DS). It's just not been the same for some time now, and buying GC games has just been delaying the inevitable. Sorry to be so melodramatic!

Tomb Raider on cube? April Fools or not?
K-project replied to shade's topic in General Gaming Discussion
It's real? Honestly, not a good choice of day to make a big announcement!! Looks bloody good too. I'll definitely pick it up if it's a quality port. If the GC suffers a crap PS2 style port a-la EA, then I'll give it a miss. But if the port's as good as, say, BG+E then it'd have to be worth considering. April Fool's! I thought it would be a bit cruel having such a laugh at us poor GC-only owners! -

We'll see. Cool if true. -
Tomb Raider on cube? April Fools or not?
K-project replied to shade's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Rest assured it's an April Fool gag. I have no doubt whatsoever. -
Just thought I'd underline this in case you missed it. I know a lot of people frown on copies, and rightly so. But in my case it was the only way to play these games confidently, because all the originals I bought wouldn't work, and it was well worth it. If I can help let me know. I'm not a pirate, I don't want your money! I'll send it for free.

Well, I don't see a problem if it's true. Microsoft releasing the 360 worldwide took some serious cash, and I'd rather wait a little bit longer than see money wasted on an unneccessary venture. MS even stated at the time that they wish they'd not done it. As for Sony, it looks like the PS3 is going to be released in 2007 so what's the hey-ho? Plus, I've got 4 tonne of Gamecube stuff to play through yet! I've only just beaten Mario Sunshine with 120 stars ffs!!!

Zelda delayed to Autumn and Rev confirmed for 2006
K-project replied to penic99's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I couldn't get the link to work, but if it's true I couldn't be happier. A big, perfect Zelda to look forward to is going to be the highlight of my year! The last time a Zelda suffered so many delays we ended up with Ocarina, and look how wonderful that was/is. Good news. For me anyway.... -
Picked it up yesterday. I suppose it is better than the old NOM, little bit less kiddie orientated etc, it's still not what I would've liked, so Pikmin 2 or no, I won't be subscribing. Having not read an official mag for many years, like Ninty above I was quite shocked by the blatant Nintendo propaganda. Of course, I should have expected no less, but as I say it was a bit of a culture shock. It's quite po-faced too, without anywhere near the sense of fun that NGC has, which they manage to couple with good quality writing. The only thing that lets NGC down is a lack of anything in the way of features, which of course ONM trumps straightaway. So, in summation, for me it's a let down. I'll certainly keep an eye on it though, if nothing else for the potential exclusives.

That was a problem I had at the time of the DC. I also bought versions that were in pretty good nick, but wouldn't load! Ended up sticking with my naughty back up versions, that I know work OK. Someone at work printed off a high quality box inlay, and also laser printed full size disc labels based on the originals, onto some new discs for me, so they look the biz. Rest assured, when Sega deem it fit to release a boxset, I'll be there.

When it comes to the voices, I can take either the english or the Jap with subs. They're both great in their own different ways. I remember being a bit disappointed when I first played Shenmue 2, because it didn't have the "spaced-out" voice acting, that I'd grew to love. Thing is though, you soon get used to the Japanese actors, and it does lend a certain authenticity to proceedings (OK it's Japanese I know and it's set in Hong Kong, but you know what I mean!). It would be lovely to think that at some point in the future they'll release a box set for a future console that has selectable language options.

Shenmue 2 is absolute magic, Stocka. Make sure you get it, but don't spend silly money! If you really struggle to get it, I have a backup DC copy, and I'm sure I could arrange some way of sending you it. It's self-booting, so you don't need a boot disc. Let me know how you get on!
