  1. Cheers for your reply Blue_Ninja0. It's certainly looking that way isn't it. It's odd though; I usually lay the machine flat, but these last couple of days I've been playing it upright and the problem hasn't been as severe at all. I still get it, but not as much as before. Is the Wii really solely designed to be played upright do you think? I mean, even the noise the drive used to make isn't as bad as it was. Watch this - give it a couple of days and I'll bet I'm back here saying it's just exploded or something! I just wanted it to get me through Christmas and I'll sort it out afterwards. I've not even got me Zelda yet, and Mario's out on Friday! Gah!
  2. Anyone else here familiar with what seems to be Wii drive related problems? I have a bizarre problem in that nine times out of ten if I put a disc in the Wii first time it won't load up properly. It'll take ages to load up, and when it does it'll be buggy and glitchy. If I eject it and put it back in again, it'll (mostly) load up fine the second time (though this isn't 100% consistent). At first it was a minor irritant type of bug, but now it's absolutely driving me crackers, especially when I only want a quick go on the football. I've tried laying it flat and standing it up. I've tried putting it in different areas of the living room, but nothing makes any difference. It's in a place where there's loads of space for it, it's kept clean and dry and I don't connect it to the net. What can I do, short of returning it? Is there anything I could've forgotten to do? It's been kinda funny since day one really, but Mario's out next week. Arrggh!
  3. Dear God that looks absolutely abysmal. I'll stick with my Excite Truck thanks!
  4. I love it too. I'm on it all the time! Been playing it constantly since launch, and still find it a very satisfying approach to footie on the Wii. There's a couple of things I'd like looking at for the next game, obviously the lack of content being one issue. But I'd like to see a better system for crossing the ball. I dunno what I'm doing wrong, but all my crosses head straight for the keeper. Nine times out of ten. On the subject of crossing, I definitely feel a remote gesture should be used for it next time. There's no need to double up buttons when you have such a multi-faceted controller like the Wii remote and nunchuck combo to make the most of. But yeah, even without a manager mode of any real sort I'm still loving the football here. It's definitely the best FIFA I've ever played I reckon.
  5. Got this today, and have to say so far I am incredibly impressed! I loved the old Super Metroid on the SNES, but found the GC sequels a bit maudlin. I didn't like the placing of the save points and the emphasis on back tracking, though a big part of the SNES game too, really dragged the game out unneccesarily. With that in mind I still decided to give the Wii game a shot, since the atmosphere is still unparalelled in the Metroid games. It seems amazing to me so far, though admiteddly I'm only an hour or so in. The controls are amazing, this can't be emphasised enough for me. Again, like most Wii games they're a surprise at first and there's an acclimatising period, but they're also surprisingly easy to get to grips with, and most importantly make sense. I'd heard the first hour was terrible, but I have to say I haven't felt that at all. I think it was Edge who said that, but no, I haven't thought that at all. And the graphics are amazing. The GC games were no slouch in this regard, but the Wii game looks even better to me. I am actually going to complete this one! Top stuff. The Wii's catalogue is really starting to take serious shape for me. Roll on Mario!
  6. I still hope they keep the single player game intact to be honest. I've no desire to play online, and I like the personal nature of the GC original. Please don't neglect us solo players Nintendo!

    Okami

I hear what you're saying, but Okami is a very different thing altogether. Nobody bought it on PS2 for one thing, and the nature of the game (and the gameplay) is perfect for the Wii setup. There's really nothing like it on any of the other consoles (PS3/360) adding further to the Wii's already wonderfully eclectic line-up. I'd like to see the original, and a sequel for the Wii. Yes please!

    Okami

*prays* This would be fantastic. Consider it pre-ordered Capcom!
  9. I can't believe I'm 34 and still this excited at the prospect of a new game! In fact, the whole Wii line up for the Winter has got me dancing about like a loon. I suppose this is why I plumped for the Wii instead of the other consoles. I know there's an awful lot of cynicism about the Wii from the gaming community, but really if it wasn't for this little white slab o' fun I don't think I would have even entertained "next-gen" gaming. I've got Mario Galaxy on order, along with Metroid 3 and NiGHTS, and the missus has got me a copy of a long-overdue Twilight Princess for my Christmas pressie. And there's a ton of great games to come next year too, along with stuff like Zelda for the DS. Best gaming Christmas ever! (OK, even if NiGHTS has been put back... )
  10. I think the problem you are having is this well known bug. As you can see, Nintendo issued a statement and you can exchange your disc with them apparently. Worth a look imho.
  11. Oh yeah, don't get me wrong - I'm all for a delaying a game to get it right. And NiGHTS is definitely a game I want to see done right. I'm just lamenting the loss of a game I wanted to play up to Christmas! There's some new pics here for you. I think this is looking lovelier everytime I see it, but I wonder if only those of us with prior knowledge of the game feel this way....?
  12. Oh bugger! I've had this on pre-order for ages already, and now you tell me it's been put back again?! I can't wait to get this, and it's one of my most anticipated Wii titles. I loved the Saturn original dearly, and the Wii controller has to be the most logical step for this game. Surprised there's not more love for this on the internet. I expected NiGHTS fans to come out of nowhere to profess their love but it's just not happened yet really.
  13. Heh, was it? You'd never know it between them! I'm really glad that Konami are taking this approach, but I worry it might get confusing in 2 player with all those lines on screen. Plus, you'll always know where your opponent is going to run to, won't you?
  14. Actually, PES3 was the last time the series had a graphical overhaul. And yes, this does look pretty much the same engine. I'm sure Konami will polish it up though, and I'm really looking forward to it. I still don't see it replacing FIFA in my Wii though. It's more sort of a companion title for me.
  15. Cripes! I've just watched the video on IGN, and I have to say it looks like it could be b*****d hard! All those lines on the screen! Also, is there going to be any AI in the game, or am I going to have to multi-task a full field at the same time? I'm open to it though. As long as they don't ruin the intuitive nature of the series. I'm glad that they've really took a good look at how to utilise the Wii setup in a unique way, and i just hope it's easy to use...or at least as easy as the old PES's. Yeah I'm in. : peace:
  16. I like the sound of this. And the nice thing is, it's suitably different from the FIFA game to be worth buying in addition to it. I still think the release date is very silly, but I'll definitely be getting this, and hopefully they'll get a PES2009 out with the other versions. I don't fancy a spring update every year. I'm sure Konami will turn out a top game, even if the screenshots do look a bit like Lawrenson has doodled all over them.
  17. Wowowowowowowow!! There's simply no way this game will disappoint! Betcha this tops even Mario64. Betcha!
  18. And there it is, right there! Sums the game up perfectly.
  19. Really? Oh sorry. I can't recall a recent FIFA where the CPU placed the direction on the shot for you. You usually have to pick your place with the analogue stick, and it's the same with the Wii version. Is that what you meant?
  20. No, it's all manually done with the remote and nunchuck. The only time there's any auto passing and movement is if you select the remote-only Family Play mode. It's a bit naff and I don't think anyone bothers with it really. The manual Advanced Play with nunchuck is where it's at.
  21. ...But loses none of the depth for it! Zechs, I have to say that for some strange reason, this game reminds me of ISS98 big time. I dunno why....maybe it's the pace, but it definitely reminds me of it. If you get the chance to play it give it a go.
  22. Sorry to bump this back up, but I actually had a keeper sent off today! Not my team - the AI one, but nevertheless I have to say this has never happened in any other football game I've ever played. Their keeper bundled over my striker as he dashed into the box, and was sent off accordingly. I was well shocked! Only let down was that the player they replaced him with never donned the keeper's shirt, he just stayed in his outfield strip. Shame! But still eh?
  23. Caution! I love the game and I was a PES nut, but I always say - try it out first. It might be my thing, but maybe not yours and I couldn't stand the thought of you hating me for wasting your cash. But! As I say I love the game. There's quite a learning curve from a controls point of view, but if you're up for that you'll have fun. I'm only just starting to use the tricks in-game and I've had it a full week tomorrow, simply because there's a lot of basics to take in first. It's complicated, no doubt, but I can honestly say it's my favourite footie game ever. After all the mumping on the net, I wouldn't want to go back to a GC pad or whatever because the Wii setup is really rewarding. All we need now for the Wii is a full compliment of modes like the other consoles. Next year then!
  24. Ha hah! Found a review at last. Go here. It's only a small site judging by the forums, but still it's a Wii review! "Less initiative"? I think he means intuitive, but otherwise I agree with it really.
  25. Totally agree with this. I stopped buying games mags regularly a few years ago, just about when N64 became NGC. I used to get Edge every month, but it's not what it used to be. Don't get me wrong, of course no opinion is definitive, but there's been a few howlers from Edge in recent times. I get worried when I go on sites like Eurogamer and rllmuk etc, because they seem to put so much weight on the scores Edge give out. I just don't trust what any pro games journo has to say. Even if they haven't been bribed, they won't have played a game enough to offer a proper opinion, or they'll be far too excitable to get any sense from them. Awesome!! 98% Much better to look out for videos as Jamba suggests, or even better play demos. The only reviews I like to read now are those little reader reviews on Amazon and Play etc. If you read a few of those, you'll often get a clearer idea of what to expect from a title and whether it'll be your bag or not. Super Play was the only mag you could trust.... /cuddles his bound complete collection of Super Plays...
