I'm not being aggressive but have somehow managed to upset you. I would apologise but I'm having trouble understanding what about my factual information upsets you. Ummm sorry?
-
In your original post you said that Nintendo would put in a different control scheme. I was just giving an example where they didn't as I think they won't.

Skyward Sword says hi.

I'm not sure about this... games have moved on vastly since the SNES/N64 games and I've been thinking about what made them great back then. And to a point it all comes down to being about action and agility in the air. What is being described still feels like it's going to be clunky and kind of laboured. Take below as a contrast. This is Strike Vector, a game made by 9 developers in 15 months. It's extremely fast and frantic and just feels more like what StarFox should be getting closer to:
-
Because they're working on a new Metroid? :p
-
Sorry what? Other people should stop voicing their opinions about what for them is a genuine omission in the game design just so other can maintain a falsely inflated sense of "hype"? That's the worst thing I've read on here in ages. Essentially you've just suggested that everyone shut up so as not to wake the ostriches with their heads in the ground please.
-
You're most likely having issues with the NAT masquerade and it screwing around with the ports. I would recommend one of these: https://www.msdist.co.uk/product_AirRouter.php They're great, I have lots of experience with them and they actually do what you program them to do, not just take it as a suggestion. You will want to check that you can actually use the superhub as just a modem though... Virgin get upset about that if I remember correctly as they like to remotely access your unit.

Yes, the public are indeed flocking to the console for the epic library. Or are they either: 1) Enjoying the wealth of content on other platforms 2) Still playing the classic Nintendo franchises on other platforms Your view of the games library may be that it's reasonable but I'm enjoying indie games on PC for £15 each or less on a semi regular basis that make Nintendo's offerings look dull and samey. And I can't believe we are actually arguing about this. You may be happy with the status quo but the sales figures aren't that way by accident.
-
Because people are buying more of those consoles? A lack of new game experiences, any kind of game library or any feature to the be considered a KSP? You can't have fun if there are no games to play. I'm not throwing insults, I'm just surprised that people are still accepting false logic or excuse-mongering. It's a poor show by Nintendo and there is very little evidence to show that this is going to change soon, especially when we have so much evidence to back up how they float their entire console on promises and no substance. Please understand.... You're talking about potential? I'm talking about substance, games I can actually play and a price point that I don't feel ashamed to pay. Until the big hitters actually arrive, Nintendo is just selling you guys magic beans with a console whose features even they don't want to support.
-
Um, what? Do we want to start exploring the fact that a £4-500 PC could run rings around a Wii U when it launched? Do you want to keep trying to justify that price tag nearer the end of the generation on top of all of the cheap games? Nintendo have categorically stated that they are not going to compete in the graphics arms race and now they are showing that they aren't even going to compete in the gameplay arms race either. Here's a question. What new does the Wii U bring to the table that makes it new? And I'm talking features that say "oh god, if you like games then you HAVE to try this" kind of features, not the pitiful justifications that Serebii is making. The detachment from reality concerning value judgements for anyone but the most indoctrinated is getting worrying around here.
-
Yes, cos that is going to take away so much from Nintendo's poor online infrastructure. They are almost legendary for showing no expertise on executing a solid online experience of any complexity whatsoever. People talk about a Pokémon MMO and I've joined you in the past in saying that it will never happen for various reasons. One of them is that Nintendo doesn't have the skills in-house to build an MMO infrastructure. Framerate differences can be compensated for with good server programming (the variety in connection speeds alone requires this) but let's not dance around the fact that this is being imposed because it's something that Nintendo can't make happen, not that it couldn't be done.
-
Wow... just, I don't... nope. Flink you're never going to convince someone that is irrational as Serebii who ignores the reality and opinion of everyone else that plays games to listen to the little voice in his own head that invents justification for Nintendo's actions. I've been away for the best part of 2 months? The same record is still playing, the arguments are still the same and for this I only see one solution. Vote with your money people. The 3DS is a great system now which deserves a well earned purchase. The Wii U has a long way to go but many of us bought it on launch and are less than happy with it. We all need to learn to stop trusting Nintendo to deliver anything they promise and only drop our cash when the goods are delivered.
-
Er ok... I don't agree with anything that he posted just there.
-
Honestly couldn't give a toss about the features of the Wii U version. Lay 3DS detail on me plz. No but they would show you a whole bunch of features and footage, announce that it will no longer be coming in 2014 swiftly followed by "please understand"... You could look at that as a feature reveal. Or you could look at it with some scepticism of PR bullshit and see it for what it would be: a delay announcement. Can we all please stop skimming over the fact that Nintendo are awful when it comes to keeping to release schedules? The way they handle releases and their "window" has become an industry joke and they do massively delay big titles (usually for the right reasons). EDIT: Sorry... by "we all" I mean Serebii.

I was going to try and help you with your internet issues and what help I can give depends on where you are but seeing as you persistently want to be a tool about it and somehow feel entitled to support from people without them questioning it, you can go swivel. Why would I want to help you when you're behaving like that? I've never said what you guys are doing is bad, I've tried to understand why you are doing it and apparently that offends you... as a person that is volunteering my help, I have the right to do so and frankly, as a someone that is raising for charity, you should be grateful for every scrap of help you get. I'm running a charity event on Saturday and if people ignore us or don't contribute to the event then that's our fault for delivering the message properly not their because we think their stupid or not compassionate. @flameboy, not once have you asked me a question about how I can help and you're getting angry with me for not giving you that information. I had no idea that you wanted me to be clearer so that's just as much your fault for not bringing that up. This will be my last post in this thread, as despite offering some help it's now wasting my time having to justify why I should help you.
-
It's ok, I fully understand what you originally posted and it informed me about how the organisation works. It would probably be a good idea for you as a team to address that issue though, as if it's turning sponsors away then there might be room to improve on delivering the message. But yeah, sure you've got this in the bag ;-) Carry on...

Thanks @Rummy and @jayseven , your comments are much appreciated. I pretty much well agree with you jay about dramatic leavings. I think my aim with this thread was to get some feedback on how people felt about this place and put my views into perspective with that. I hope that my post doesn't come across as queeny but more a "so long and thanks for all the fish".
-
@flameboy - I have contacts in telecoms and internet infrastructure as it's part of my business. I actually asked you a totally innocent question based on the information that I had about Extra Life and I'm glad Goafer answered before you did. Don't treat me like a dick or call me weird because I don't know anything about what you're doing. I'm trying to be supportive through understanding why you guys are doing what you do as, from the way you post about it, you assume that I should know what this is all about already. Being defensive and preachy is putting me right off.
-
Thanks for getting back to me. Interesting how they have aimed to tackle that but a shame that things had to change. I'll keep any eye out for what's going on (more likely through FB). Do you have any idea where you're likely to be hosting it? I'll see if I can use some of my contacts to help, might even be able to lend you some kit if you're lucky ;-)

Just so you guys understand, the reason why I started this thread was because I can't actually answer this myself. Sometimes I feel part of this community and then at others I don't. The mafia boards are really fun and much kudos are required for all of the people that spill all of their free time into organising them as well as @Ashely, @Shorty and all of the staff that help keep this place running, especially as I know for a fact that many of them put in over 20 hours a week of hard work in on top of their full time jobs/studies but including the leisure time that they spend on the boards. I've always struggled with the concept of these kind of forums anyway. We've got entire threads dedicated to things that I might mention during a passing conversation so both reading or typing anything that equates to just an opinion on a product feels almost a waste of time for me lately. If my friends in real life were interested in buying something then that may have an impact on what I buy then yeah I'd be interested in what they have to say. But without trying to be rude, I don't feel like I know people here and the ones that I have met in real life I know very little... I don't feel comfortable playing online with anyone that I know to that level and as a result have not enjoyed experimenting with playing MK7 league. Now that's not to say that anyone else on here should feel the same, it's obvious that a lot of people relish this place and I genuinely think that it's a great forum but probably not for me anymore. I think being here has taught me a lot of things but mostly my motivation has been that this place has in the past been a great source for news. However the gaming media has proliferated and changed since I joined back in the cube-europe days, there are multiple sources of factual news now that hits sites within 6 hours of it being available and tends to come with relatively little bias. I don't find Nintendo worth getting excited about at all and in reality haven't done since the early Wii days. Every E3 and direct has almost without fail not been worth spending my time watching as the company that it once was has clearly disappeared. It will be along time before I buy another console from a company that seems to almost outright lie through it's teeth about what it promises it's customers. My brain now responds with "prove it..." for every PR line that they have. If anything this community has, indirectly and through no fault of it's own, helped me falsely raise hope and excitement about Nintendo products which has in turn influenced my decision making about my purchases. That's entirely on me though obviously. So in short, I'll be spending a lot less time here. I don't really understand my relationship with this place and will definitely keep in touch with a handful of people via other means but yeah, don't let me stop you. I think this is a respectable haven in the gutter that constitutes a lot of the internet and it is well loved by it's constituents. I'm just not sure that I qualify as one of them.

Not meaning to come across as a critic but Extra Life is an Americo-centrique charity isn't it? Is there a reason you guys didn't support something a little closer to home? Or am I completely misunderstanding?
-
You're right, I am trying to shit on your opinion. Mostly because it has no relevance or connection to how the average consumer feels about the Wii U and making comments like "the Wii U has 10 great games" is far from factual. You were wondering why people don't tar the PS4 with the same drought brush? I was pointing out that drought is a matter of opinion and perception. Specifically that your opinion differs from the majority of the market that has spoken loudly for 3 generations of hardware , saying: Nintendo could release a game a week but unless it's of a quality and of a type that I'm interested then that is essentially a drought.
-
This is entirely your opinion not everyone else's. Most people are happily excited about playing the mixture of 3rd party content on those consoles, including the massive raft of games that most current Nintendo fans don't care that much for. So sport, more generically action type games, stealth games, racing game more on the simulator end of the spectrum, FPSs and western RPGs are a selection of types of titles that Nintendo platforms won't get and if they do it will be an almost erroneous entry. The Nintendo fans that are left are those that are so enthusiastic about the games that they specialise in that (usually) they will have a second console to fill that need. The vast majority of other gamers either are happy playing the titles that pioneered the Wii or left long ago to get on the PS, Xbox or PC train. The ones left like the titles Nintendo produces almost by de facto due to Nintendo's neglect. It makes no difference if Nintendo carry on with a strategy that appeals to a market that they have already won. That market has already bought the Wii U and that's why I doubt Mario Kart will make a significant difference to the sales, just like 3D World didn't.

I'm glad you're posting in this board again. Totally agree with the above.
-
I'm not sure that Nintendo have met or even exceeded anyone's expectations of their line up in recent memory, with the exception of the 3DS. There is now a long list of big franchises that Nintendo haven't seemed to have addressed in a time frame of will be 18 months on into the Wii U's life cycle. Part of me is quite glad. I get the feeling that if we saw a Metroid, Starfox or F-Zero game at E3 that it would be a bit shit...
