Actually, I believe they're raking it in, not due to the hardcore fans, but due to the masses to which they now appeal with the casual market on the DS and Wii. If anything, it's the hardcore fans which nearly pulled them under with the Gamecube

Nintendo has announced that starting on February 7th 2011, the shiny legendary beasts (Raikou, Entei & Suicune) will be receivable over the Nintendo WiFi Connection for Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold & SoulSilver. At the moment, we don't have details on when this event ends, nor on how they'll be distributed; whether they'll be staggered like the US Gamestop events or whether they'll be like the Mystery Egg event that just ended in Japan. In addition to this, they also announced that Europe will also be getting Celebi soon, but didn't provide further details. If you didn't already know, these Beasts, when sent to Pokémon Black & White, give access to Zoroark.

Used to get mine from Gameplay though, but its the same company as game, same costs, same delivery, same warehouses...but no reward points. Reward Points are key. Going to have an arseload after 3DS day lol
