If Nintendo go third party, then fine. However, what he is suggesting would actually kill Nintendo. If Nintendo release their games on other platforms, that's it. They can't go back to hardware. It would destroy them as it would set a very dangerous precedent. After being able to buy Nintendo games on other hardware, why would people then go back to dedicated hardware for it. I'm just going to leave this here, too. Nintendo: A couple of years of financial loss and one stagnating console. Microsoft: Countless years of financial loss. Still overall far, far, in the red. Executives want rid of it. Sony: Years of loss destroying everything they built with PS1/PS2. Failed handheld. Company in dire straits, made thousands of staff redundant last year and had to sell buildings just to stay afloat. When will people realise that, just because the company manages to sell more consoles, it does not mean they are in a better place. Mark my words, when we see MS and Sony's financials for the gaming divisions, they'll be at a similar place, if not worse, than Nintendo's projections.

Range is limited with a tablet, too, but the difference is that you can still play the game in other rooms using the GamePad, you cannot with a tablet.
-
Can do that with the GamePad.

Sony are in a far worse financial position, even just their Playstation division. If anything, Sony should become a Nintendo first party. Popular does not necessarily equal healthy.

I just re-read the stuff about the new business structure and it's quite explicitly stated that they're working on how to use smartphones to boost their current hw/sw, yet people are really blowing it out of proportion.

Yes :p But my point stands. It's a well known fact and I'm surprised I was confronted about it. -

There are graphs like this based on their financials ALL OVER THE INTERNET. -
I'm not saying Nintendo didn't mess up with various aspects. I'm just saying that if more people somehow got their hands on it for a while, more people would understand it and want it.
-
Most haven't played it. The Wii U is a bizarre console in that you don't get it until you have had some time with it.
-
As I said on GAF
-
I don't think that means what people are thinking/hoping it does.
-
No. It's commonplace for CEOs to make 100s of people redundant after a poor year. They've been saying this for a while. We'll see on the 30th.

I'm saying that I believe the 3DS doing well is partially responsible for the Wii U not doing well, yes. Perhaps, but doing so would damage the handheld sales. That's what I'm getting at.

It wouldn't excuse the sales, no, but people wouldn't be massively doomsaying about the company as the company would be making money. -
If Iwata goes, the worst will happen. Japanese company, new CEO, Japan being in love with smartphone money at the moment. You can see where it's going. Releasing their games on other consoles would damage their handheld market. Why would people buy dedicated hardware for it when they can just play the franchises on other hardware.

The latter has no impact. Besides, people aren't factoring in that it's not just the Wii U selling badly that has caused the loss. Nintendo shifted $125m more than expected into their R&D this fiscal year. This won't show any returns for at least a year. They have their new building being created. Unlike other companies suffering losses, Nintendo has hired a craptonne more staff. Their advertising budget has been severely increased, as well. Then there's the whole Yen issue. These things add up more than the Wii U struggling. If anything, you could say Nintendo doing all of this is damaging it more than the Wii U. -
Wii U, because the issues haven't made my console disintegrate

Would be brutal for me to cover, but I'm up for the challenge :p

I saw the 4chan "leak". Cracked me up. Pokémon x Animal Crossing indeed.

I guess they were hoping for 3DS level turnaround :-/ -

It was given at the start of the fiscal year, with Nintendo's hope for the turnaround. They just didn't revise it until today. That's because it will happen. You can't have the power people want at the moment without loss. That's a fact of technology at the moment. -
On January 29th/30th, we are going to get some significant things of note. Iwata's meeting will show a change in business strategy regarding Wii U. He is also expected to take another pay cut.

Thing is, will going the power route actually do much except put Nintendo in the grave sooner? Look at Microsoft's Xbox Division. Despite them being at a profit the last few years, they are still very heavily in the red. Look at Sony. After the PS1 and PS2, the PS3 killed their finances and put them in the red. Kaz fired 10,000 staff and sold a building, just to make things look alright. They're still not in a good place. Both Xbox One and PS4 are being sold at a loss. Less loss than before, sure, but a loss. However, the other companies have other divisions to hold it up until it's profitable. Nintendo does not. Let's say Nintendo goes for a PS4 level powered console and release it tomorrow. They sell it at the same price, $399. This will have a decent sized loss. Nobody would buy a Nintendo console at that price so let's say $299. Even bigger loss. Within 5 years of Nintendo following this route, they would end up bankrupt. If Nintendo did this, I would be calling for Iwata's head myself. It would destroy their company faster than anything. -
F-Zero GX was so ahead of its time, both graphically and in level of customisation etc. so I would love it. But, unlike what people think, Nintendo doesn't release games just for the hell of it, they only want to do it when there's something new they can do. There does appear to be decent first party developed and paid for titles coming this year, though. X Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Mario Kart 8 Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Hyrule Warriors Bayonetta 2 Yarn Yoshi Third Sonic title And there's bound to be loads more revealed for release in the year. Wind Waker and Mario were first properly revealed at E3, and released just months later, for example. Plus a slim chance of Zelda and SMTxFE.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. It is the most important thing, that's the thing. Howevergested, it's still better value to get the GamePad.
