Any plans that are to be put forth next week will have been planned for months. It's not going to be a "release financials. panic. release a plan cooked up in two weeks" situation. Nintendo has known that this is the situation for quite a while. Iwata also EXPLICITLY said that they are not putting games on mobile on Friday. Based on his statement on Friday, their new business structure is regarding pricing etc. as well as the strategy for the Wii U.
-
True, but this is a bit different :p We'll all see next Friday :p
-
The one from Iwata on Friday, which I posted here, does so. Not too much power at all. They can push for it, and they can show disapproval, but they have no control over anything. If Iwata's approval rating drops dramatically, then they can call for a change in CEO, but that's about it.

WHAT?
-
So looking forward to this
-
No, but them essentially saying it countless times is indicative of it. Also, discussing the sharing and ideas is fine, but dismissing the facts is not.
-
Redundancies are not common place in Nintendo, especially as they have been expanding in the past year. They are very relevant as they have an effect on staff morale which has an effect on quality of work. We have gone over this countless times and @Dcubed's post is the most succinct in this. Go read it. It's irrelevant anyway as it IS NOT HAPPENING.
-
Imagine all the resources they had to drop and people that needed to be made redundant because they no longer get their hardware income, licensing income etc. plus no longer getting 100% of the money from their own software. They would have to downsize, considerably, if they were to go third party.
-
Nintendo creating its own tablet would be identical to them doing it, so no it's not me being defensive.
-
Reading through it, it's the impression I got from it.
-
A lot of that article is acting like Nintendo are putting their games on smartphones though, which Iwata categorically said wasn't happening. It mentions companion apps, but most of it is about the games.
-
I'd say Wii U so you can play it on the big screen, or the small screen when in bed etc. if you do so wish, rather than an even smaller screen
-
If it's part of an overarching Nintendo app, it could work. Imagine the app, it has connectivity to both Wii U and 3DS somehow. Also has a database listing their developed titles, telling you if they're available to purchase on the Wii U or 3DS (with links to the eShop if that's done). StreetPass features, Miiverse connectivity etc. Things such as this could aid in getting Nintendo some smartphone coverage, and lure people to their devices.

Since this is back up, I'll post this http://blogs.wsj.com/japanrealtime/2014/01/20/nintendos-woes-dont-mean-game-over-for-its-consoles/ Pretty much says it all.
-
I believe Nintendo did say they are working on web-based and app versions of the eShop.
-
Could work. It combines both of them to a decent point. We know Miiverse can be used for similar features, as seen with the items in Sonic Lost World, but if fully integrated into the app, it'll not only create awareness, but will encourage people to the Wii U. They would have to name it something like the Nintendo app though, to gain awareness as Miiverse or StreetPass is unlikely to have the pulling power
-
Agreed, that'd be pretty awesome

http://blogs.wsj.com/japanrealtime/2014/01/20/nintendos-woes-dont-mean-game-over-for-its-consoles/ We can end that crap now anyway

If only he had an investor meeting planned on the 30th. Oh wait...
-
Perhaps, but you're also focusing on the negative. Yes, it dropped 18% instantly, but it climbed back up throughout the day so the actual drop after the day was just around 6% down from the previous day. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/nintendo-stock-drops-6-percent-672443 Initial stock drops are always drastic.
-
Nope, we'll definitely see Zelda by this year's E3 at the very latest. They were going to show it last year, but decided not to, then they were going to show it at Comic Con, but felt it needed something bigger as its place of reveal. Plus, Aonuma said so http://www.gamespot.com/articles/zelda-wii-u-news-at-e3-2014/1100-6415585/
-
Well obviously not, but people need to stop comparing stock prices to success. More often than not, when a company announces something new, the stock price drops. Hell, they tend to drop when investors get nervous. Stocks are irrelevant to us and irrelevant to this entire discussion. Sounds more to me like lack of imagination on your part.

Very true. I was a bit surprised that Wonderful 101 wasn't heavily promoted. A new Nintendo IP, developed by one of the most beloved developers around. They've funnelled an extra 8bn yen into the advertising budget though, so maybe they are finally getting ready to sort this out.
-
Problem is, despite the fact a vocal group likes those games, they are very firmly in the minority. Even Metroid struggles to reach 2m sold. That's why Nintendo is reluctant to fund things like it, since they're high in budget and low on results.
-
They're not losing that much. Their loss projected is smaller than the loss they experienced in 2011 and much, much, smaller than losses hit by MS and Sony. Hell, you can offset almost all their loss by what they added to their R&D budget, as well as their advertising (15bn yen & 8bn yen respectively, with a 25bn loss projected). They're expanding, not contracting, and their expansion is a large part of why they're at a loss, though the Wii U's failures aren't helping. The difference between this year and last year is that last year, MS and Sony were showing off hardware at E3, and Nintendo wasn't, and that's the reason they gave for not having one. This year, it's going to be pure software and that is one area where Nintendo will shine above the others.
