This. Life does entail a lot of suffering, but since one can detach from thoughts and it seems from emotions as well, I do consider it possible to reach states of higher inner peace eventually...

So what kind of exercise are you thinking of? Gym?

Same here. Have gathered quite a few consoles and games, and even though they're great and connected to a lot of cool memories, they do take a lot of room...I've been intending to sell this stuff for some time now, but since it's located in my mom's house, which is 5½ hours away from here, still yet to actually do this... However, some of the more recent games I've actually managed to sell after completing them...Works surprisingly well: you get both the game experience, but also some / all of your money back...

I hope not...

Now here's how you do it...Didn't attend this myself, but caught my eye in the news:

Sigh...failed by my optimism.

The fact that I don't know which minor subject to choose...Swedish or Finnish. Eng + Swe is the basic combination for language teachers, but Swedish just doesn't interest me that much...I guess I might learn to like it though, who knows. Finnish, however, I'm much more into, but would possibly mean fewer job possibilities... Talked to the career councellor, and she said that would just be better to go with one's interests than to force oneself to study something...Also, would it really matter if I had more job opportunities, if they were half interesting (Eng), half boring (Swe) anyway...

Wow, nice job with the NE design Goafer...excellent balance.

Well, if such meditation states do exist, it would mean that a consciousness is not limited to just sensory perception and the thinking mind...but is something more than that. Whether you think this could be possible or impossible is up to you...However, these kinds of experiences are widely mentioned in different spiritual practices around the world, so it's not just something one person / group has conjured up... Personally, I cannot yet say whether these kinds of states exist or not, since I have no personal experience in them...And even if I could, you'd still have to be open to the possibility of them existing, since these kinds of inner phenomena cannot just be videoed or recorded...

Again, the problem is that we cannot communicate with those people...since they died and did not come back. Thus we don't know for sure what really happens... Like you said earlier, the brain does seem to affect the consciousness in some form...Thus it could be that the consciousness, despite being able to exist independently, gets somehow lodged in the body, and thus becomes partly(?) governed by this physical manifestation. Should the link station, i.e. brain, lose its power to harness the consciousness, the latter would then be restored to its "free" state... Impossible is a very strong word...Could be hallucination, true, but could be something else... Actually...seems that in the jhana states of meditation, you cannot think and your senses shut down. And yet, you're still fully conscious... Thanks for sharing, great video...Makes perfect sense, too. Seems like my thinking neurosis came from a governing left hemisphere, whereas now I've shifted into the acceptance and just being of the right one...

Nice, a N64 controller with a proper stick... I like all kinds of controllers...Looking at all the pretty pictures, it becomes so easy to remember what it felt to just hold a particular controller in your hands and play with it...each one has a different and particular feel to it. Very nice... For functionality, I'd go with GC: good and durable sticks, lots of buttons, fits very well in my hands. For fun and intuition, it's the Wii remote: pointing at the screen just feels so natural...

True, the brain with its different parts seems to be linked with certain areas of consciousness, like sensory perception... Well that would be the first conclusion, yes. However, in the light of NDE's and deep meditation experiences (jhana), this is not so certain anymore...Why can people still be conscious despite their brain being dead or their senses having completely shut down? This is a possibility as well... Now the problem with permanently dead people is...that we simply do not know what happens with their consciousness. The closest we can get is by examining those who went into the clinically dead state, but still came back. In death, the body has shut down, but does this mean that there is no consciousness at all? True, there's no power to animate the body anymore, which could mean the total dissipation of consciousness, but there's also the possibility of survival and separation... When describing NDE's or out-of-body experiences (OBE), people report being able to perceive their environments like normal, or even in a heightened manner. The typical example would be witnessing your own (dead) body lying in a hospital bed...while you were outside it. Thus, it's a possibility that after death, you could end up just like this...fully conscious, but just separated from your body... Which brings us to the next question: what is a consciousness / mind anyway, especially if it's something more than just a product of a working brain? Dr. Parnia listed some theories in his video (45 mins): - somehow generated on a subatomic level - a separate, yet undiscovered scientific entity which cannot be reduced down, like gravity or electromagnetism - mind being separate from brain I find the second thought quite fascinating...

Are these still around somewhere? Would be interesting to see...
