    But have you read Ghostwritten? It's his best, in my opinion, although I didn't think that until I had read it for the second time.

    I tried to read that, but never really got into it... However, I also liked The Wind-up Bird Chronicle and lots of his short stories.

    Hopefully you shoudn't regret it, although you might not understand the overall story the first time (I definitely didn't).

    Yes, I'd agree with you there. It was still pretty good though. Another great book: Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami.

    Yes, series 2 = mildly amusing, but series 1 = world destroying brilliance.

    I don't like the idea of having to elevate one book above all others, but one of my favourite books is Ghostwritten by David Mitchell. Every time you read it you discover more, and understand it better. I've read it three times.

    Yes, the second one, it's only about half audio, and if you follow the instructions it will tell you to write stuff down in romaji which will negatively affect your pronounciation and hiragana ability. So write it in hiragana instead.

    Actually, now it does load, and I have that. I wouldn't recommend it if you want to learn to write the language, or learn it seriously, but if you just want to be able to cope as a tourist then it's good.

    First is good for a reference, but www.guidetojapanese.org is better if you want to learn it. Second won't load for me, and third is probably good.
