  1. Yeah, they should make the tax even more regressive, that'll kill off the working class. It's not like we need them, all they do is sit around, smoking their lives away.
  2. I could give you the economics if you want Pookiablo. Going to give it to you even if you don't. - Smoking is an example of a demerit good, i.e a good that causes significant external costs to a third party. Without government intervention, these costs aren't paid for because the consumers and producers of cigarettes do not take into account the external costs that occur because of the consumption or production of this good. In this case, the negative externalities here arise because smoking inflicts monetary costs to the NHS, and cause the health of others to worsen. This could lead to losses in working days and therefore people would be less able to contribute to GDP. -There are many ways to tackle this market failure - currently tax is being imposed on cigarettes which has a limited effect, because demand for cigarettes is inelastic due to their addictive nature. However it does reduce demand for them slightly, and the tax revenue the government gains through this can be used to hypothecate (hypothecate meaning they can use the money to reduce external costs in other areas). Some of this revenue might be used in what they are doing here - in this case it's probably best to call the NHS money give-aways 'consumer subsidies'. This obviously has the desired effect of reducing demand and the over consumption of the demerit good in question. Quantity demanded should fall, supply would contract, and there would be an increase in price of cigarettes. So you can see why the government are doing it, because it reduces the undesirable effects you have in a free market.
  3. That's the last thing it will do. I know EXACTLY what to expect from the game, in platforming and combat terms, and for me that isn't good enough, despite reviewers being content with the same. They may feel obliged to give the game standard 8/10s and that's telling me it's just like the others. Fed up of these unambitious sequels.
  4. By all means, get Modnation, it looks pretty good, personally won't be getting it because the load times in the beta were jokified, never encountered waiting as bad as that. (Well...) However, I will cease to play Unch with you upon your PoP purchase because it's exactly the same as its prequels and a complete waste of money and I will have lost respect for you.
  5. To be fair is is one of the more friendly ones of the species. Reminds of the Vogan species from the film version of The Hitch-hikers Guide actually:
  6. Is there any chance that people will start buying cigarettes, claiming they're smoking, then selling them on, following with their claim for the 'quit' money?
  7. Your eyes tell the stories of a day you wish you could Recall the moments that once have Retract the footsteps that brought us to this favor I wouldn't ask this of you Good eye, sniper Here I'll shoot, you run The words you scribbled on the walls With the loss of friends you didn't have I'll call you when the time is right Are you in or are you out? For them all to know the end of us all Coheed and Cambria - A Favour House Atlantic
  8. What gun specifically? I'd recommend the L115A3 Long Range Rifle. Whilst good weather means your bullets are less likely to change course in the wind, drinking alcohol could cause you to sway, and therefore inaccuracy may occur. Camping in daylight is also risky, as you will be more noticeable to others, and the activity of camping is generally frowned upon. If you are missing your targets, take some penicillin with you for better acquisition. You're right though, it could get messy.
  9. I hate seeing money going to waste like that.
  10. I haven't played it enough to comment on story or characters but it definitely doesn't have great gameplay. It's a borefest. The apparently best mission in the game is the bank mission. It's the only mission I've played, I completed it first time and thought it was completely average.
  11. Well it's the developer and publisher's right to sell a product that they want to sell, so it's just a case of whether it is morally right or wrong. I'd say in this case it is fair, and it's very similar to the Bad Company 2 VIP codes you get when you buy it new. What I don't like is the over-exploitation against consumers, in recent memory, the MW2 map packs. Yes, the consumer has shown that they will buy 3 new maps for £11, but that doesn't make it right. I hate Activision for what they've done there.
  12. It's because there's a possibility that people become to attached to the fish, and therefore in the event of a fire they waste time trying to salvage some sort of temporary portable home for them, which may sacrifice precious time.
  13. The prom one was in year 11. I'm just finishing yr 12 now. I'm 17 years and a half old. I figure that looking younger than my age is a success in the long run. And thanks to Coolness.
  14. Yeah I look tres young in both of those. As for how I write; it depends if I'm feeling lazy or not. I've become gradually more lazy as I've spent time on NE. I didn't think writing style reflected age that much. Just look at Rez. If I write on the Wii board it sounds like I'm 3 years old. Just so I can fit in with the crowd there, and the Wii target audience. From this post you'd probably think I was 15 or summut. Because of the abrupt sentences. 24 Paj? Kay then.
  15. Yeah, I have a feeling that this Western setting will do Rockstar much more proud than the gobshite that is GTA. There's far less phone-calling in this that's for sure.
  16. 6.9? Bit harsh I think, I thought it was very enjoyable. I'd agree that it seemed to run low on cool ideas, I think more could've been done with the rules, plus it seemed short, but what was there for me was at least an 8. How dare you have an opinion, you monster! And Bard, we know you don't like Metallica.
  17. Thought I'd post a couple of pictures of me so that people know what a Dwarf Gourami looks like. This was me poking from the sunroof of a Hummer Limmo before my prom, around a year ago. You can get an idea of how bad the limmo was when I tell you that it had (among other lexis) the word 'taboo' written in graffiti flame emblazoned across the side. Back in March, on my sixth form trip to Ireland. This is also me. (That last one isn't me btw lol)
  18. Hahaha, he's blatantly just pretending that he doesn't mind the insults, internally he's a marshmallow.(marshmellow?) I just found that picture hilarious, coupled with the music it seemed like a joke attempt to make the event seem epic, it was completely randomly placed in a way as if it was the standard thing to do, plus it looked like he was trying to pass himself off as a really cool and attractive guy. I'm probably reading too much into the comedy, but still. Carrie Fisher is amazing. Edit: was
  19. One of the best adverts ever:
  20. - Welcome back Molly, you fit fuck. (I've not actually seen a picture of you I just thought I'd make a funny) - Had a pretty shit day of revision, exam period is getting the better of me. Had to turn down cinema requests and 5 a side football requests which both would've made my day much better -Rez turned down my one opportunity in the day to play Uncharted and so I feel very neglected. The ending to his new DS collection video was a teeny bit lol-worthy so it restores the balance somewhat.
  21. I don't own the game, but that picture just screams of a level for Def Jam: Fight for NY. Not that one specifically ofc.
  22. It sounds like GUN multiplied by 5 in terms of quality, which can only be a good thing. Red Dead looks to have a lot more stuff to do, which is pleasing.
  23. Had a mahoosive sesh of PS3 just then. From 7:10pm to 12:10am... I deserved it tbf with the amount of revision I've done recently. Back to work tomorrow though, at home this time. Cheers to Rez for the awesome Uncharted bout, and Sheikah for the longest online Demon's Souls sitting I'm likely to have. Progress got halted by a complete douchebag and the way the online 'system' works in the game it was quite fiddly and annoying. Still, it's a funner and quicker way of romping through the game and getting tons of souls at the same time so all is good. Oh, and: Pixeljunk Shooter 2 has been announced and is apparently going to be 'bigger than the first game'. http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/109/1090929p1.html Don't think I'll get it personally, the first was good but I don't think it was worth the price.
