  1. It was strange at first, but eventually I became grateful, since Nosferatu is the best way for Rhys to cure himself. Yup, Sacred Stones was the least good I played, too. The training grounds and the shortness of the game take away some of it's appeal. The fact that the game was somewhat easy by Fire Emblem standards (characters were too strong. At least the maps were hard.) and there were few charismatic characters didn't do much for it's replay value. I did like the revelation about Jehanna's prince. I certainly didn't expect it. One more thing. I don't know if I already said this, but you should try training Mist. Not only because of THE battle, but because she's more reliable than she seems. With a high magic stat, she is the best candidate for the Sonic Sword. Use Arm Scrolls if necessary, but after promotion, she becomes an awesome healer and fighter with that sword (you might consider using Hammerne so it doesn't break, though). You might even use a band to help guarantee the high growths in magic.
  2. To clear up some confusion, the Jap-US Final Fantasy relation is: -FF1: Came out normally in both regions. Later remade for GBA, PS1 and PSP. -FF2: Japan only. Later remade for GBA, PS1 and PSP and launched in the US. -FF3: Japan only. Later remade in 3D for DS and launched in the US. -FF4: Called FF4 in Japan. Came out as FF2 in the US. Later remade for GBA and PS1. -FF5: Japan only. Later remade for GBA and PS1 and launched in the US. -FF6: Called FF6 in Japan. Came out as FF3 in the US. Later remade for GBA and PS1. From FF7 forward, the names and releases were corrected and saw no more confusion. Note: I didn't mention Europe since I don't have much information on that. However, the naming system remains the same as in the US.
  3. Actually, some licensed games from that era were rather good. There are several old licensed games made by Capcom that were quite enjoyable (Alddin, DuckTales), from what I've been told (never played DuckTales). And it's not just Capcom and Konami. I recall a disney game featuring Mickey % Donald for the Mega Drive that was very appealing and enjoyable. The Lion King game made by Acclaim (I think) was also good. I still play it from time to time and, although the controls could be better, it's still as good as I remember.
  4. I've tried the Oscar/Boyd/Rolf attack and yeah sure it looks cool. But I don't use it, since the Bros. can kill every single enemy on their own (except bosses). I heard it too. Can't wait to see how it plays. Also, it makes sense. In PoR, Boyd would get more bonuses if he fought alongside a supported Ulki or Brom than he would get fighting alongside his brothers. Story-wise, that doesn't make sense. The secondary supports are probably going to correct those storyline flaws. Still, as long as we get support endings this time I won't complain. As you already mentioned, a ROM and translation patch would let you play FE6, but if you prefer a console, that's cool. I prefer a console as well, but FE6 was too tempting for me. That would be awesome. Aerial battles in one screen and ground battles in another is a good idea. Plus, Fire Emblem works better in a Handheld. Fire Emblem definetely tops Advance Wars. Fire Emblem is much more about strategy. In chess, the queen is a precious piece that you don't want to lose. Now, imagine if you want to protect every single piece. You need to think your strategy through, don't you? In Advance Wars, you're right. The strategy part comes in at the beginning, when you barely have any money. Afterwards it's a piece of cake. In Fire Emblem, even certain boss fights need some strategic approach to beat (and give the finishing blow with the right person for experience points in some cases) A few points that you missed: -In PoR, supports are achieved by having two characters fight in the same map for a certain number of chapters; -In the GBA ones, to achieve supports, you actually have to leave them next to each other for that amount of turns, I believe. The bonuses are still available inside the 3 spaces limit; -In PoR, you can see the stat gains in their respective character windows while the bonuses are active. In the GBA games, better resort to FAQ; -The bonuses vary between couples based on their elements (Ex.: Earth/Earth combination like Ike/Oscar gives them huge Avoid; Water/Water combination like Mist/Boyd gives them great Attack bonuses; Water/Earth combination gives them half Attack, half Avoid). By the way, Hero-of-Time, play that Fire Emblem you have. My favorite thus far: Fire Emblem > FE: Path of Radiance > FE: Sword of Seals > FE: Sacred Stones
  5. From what I see, there seem to be three add-ons. I only mentioned two, so I don't know the third one. Unless it's an extension of a previously mentioned add-on. I only know them by name. Also, don't forget the Mega Drive Tower Support Structure coating system. Also known as pants. (I assume you're referring to the legs seen in the pic. Please tell me that's not an actual add-on.)
  6. I was kinda disappointed with the update, seeing as it is a stage too similar to another in melee. Nothing too original, but had to be done I guess. That stage had to come back (it was fun), so why not under a different franchise? This doesn't remove the Ice Climbers, though. Last time I checked, there was no Fire Emblem themed stage in Melee and SSB 64 had no F-Zero or Earthbound stages. By the way, is it me, or does the stage resemble DK Swing (I think that is the name) for the GBA? When I first saw the update, I thought it was from that game until I saw "DK Jungle Beat" written.
  7. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Tiny_Toon_Adventures_video_games It seems that Konami did in fact made that game you're talking about. I also had another Tiny Toons Konami game for Mega Drive. It was huge, fluid and fun. That's why I gave them credit for it.
  8. There are two Sonic & Knuckles cartridges (with sonic 3 up there), a game genie cartridge, the 32x, the Mega CD and...something I don't know. A cartridge that says "genesis cleaning system"? And I still don't know patch's game.
  9. The only ones I played seriously were FF6, FF7 and FF9. I also played FF1 (GBA remake) and FF4 (just the beginning). My thoughts: -FF1: Meh. Didn't have a good story or gameplay and the random battles were simply annoying. Definetely outdated. -FF4: Probably has a good story, but gameplay didn't hook me and was boring. -FF6: Very good. I never completed it since I let one of my characters die (you probably know who it is if you played) and then lost interest. Still a good game, loved the boss themes. -FF7: Definetely overrated by fanboys, but had a great story, cool characters and amazing music. -FF9: My favorite. I loved everything. Music, plot, characters, fluid gameplay, graphics, design, art style,... Plus, I prefer a medieval setting over a futuristic one any day. This game is the main reason I'm hyped for ASH. I've been meaning to play FF8 one day, but I'm a bit busy replaying FF9 right now . But FF8 has definetely sparked my interest after hearing the mixed reactions.
  10. Yeah, but they aren't dialogue lines (except for Luigi, apparently). Mario seems to be one of a kind. He has a voice, but he's a silent protagonist at heart. He never participates in the dialogues in the games he's in (other than the italian gibberish in the Mario & Luigi games). And the "It's-a me, Mario!" is not exactly a dialogue line. But I better stop. This thread is starting to get off-topic.
  11. It really is better that way. With just the ... moaning sounds :p And Killer Kirby, I thought Mario was a silent hero as well. I don't recall a coherent dialogue line from him or from Luigi. However, I didn't play any of the Paper Mario games, so maybe he talks there?
  12. I only plan my party after the first playtrough. In the first playtrough, if I recruit a character that I find interesting and want to use, I check the supports and try to use someone that can support with him/her (the main reason I trained Jill in my first playthrough was because of Lethe). As I said, supports are the moving force behind my playthroughs. I do that on my first playtrough usually and try to not use them in the next playtroughs. However, PoR doesn't go easy on you in the first chapters. Hence why I'm still stuck on chapter 11 Hard. Sometimes, when I use later characters, I may get surprises (Ex.: Geitz and Ranulf). The reason why I didn't use Shinon yet is because of Rolf. Not because he is strong, but more because I don't want to train two snipers. It's a bit complicated if I want to train just Shinon... That's why I love supports. Characters that aren't interesting at first may have some depth behind them (Karla and Renault come to mind). Plus, characters that aren't interesting to begin with probably have very few supports, so I won't use them much. It's you and I, my friend. The reason I haven't bought a Wii yet is because the good games haven't come out yet. On a side-note, any Fire Emblem fan here has tried to play Fire Emblem 6? It's the game Roy stars in. That game is hard and very challenging. However, it's only in Japanese. The good thing is, there are translation patchs and scripts.
  13. I recall reading somewhere that Samus would actually talk in Corruption, but I don't remember where. Maybe it was a rumour or perhaps a misunderstanding? Still hoping it's not true, since Samus is way more badass when silent. But even if she does talk, she would have a good actress behind her.
  14. Add Sheena from Tales of Symphonia to that list. I knew that voice sounded familiar while playing ToS.
  15. Whoa. It's a woman, my mistake. Anyway, I like her art style and design as well, so there shouldn't be much problem. As long as the skit system is back, all is well (except the unexplorable maps )
  16. Normally 3-4 in Level 20 and the rest in their 16-17 or higher. Then again, I probably have a different method. The same I use for all Fire Emblem games. I plan my party at the beginning of the game based on supports and avoid using anybody else, even if it is a healer (There are exceptions. Especially on Hard Modes.). That way, I can see a bunch of supports I haven't yet seen and give myself a challenge by not using certain powerful characters (playing without Gatrie can be quite hard in the first chapters). However, because of that system, I haven't completed Hard Mode yet (and accidentaly spoiled myself while quoting you. When I start reading something, I can't stop.).
  17. Ok, I've been staying away from this thread way too long. -Graphics update: I preferred Symphonia's graphics to Abyss' graphics, so I'm kinda disappointed in this. It's still fine, though. -Wiimote functions: Not a bad idea, but as long as it is used on an explorable map. I hated not being able to explore world maps in Baten Kaitos. I don't care if Tales series maps aren't detailed. It's 10 times better than unexplorable maps. Unfortunately, I'll probably be disappointed in this. -Characters returning: It's fine. I wouldn't want it any other way. Tales of Destiny 2 did the same thing and I hear it's a great game. -Monsters in battle: Interesting idea for a Tales game. I love capturing monsters and stuff. That's why I like Quina in Final Fantasy 9 (oh, and Pokémon, of course). Will probably be used by a character. If so, that character is already in my party. Ten10: The guy you mentioned. Does he only do the artwork or does he work on character design as well? I loved the characters in Tales of Destiny. Tales of Symphonia hype: Of course it's a great RPG! Not THE best ever, since tastes vary, but great in it's own right (and my personal favorite RPG). Engaging battle system, cool music (debatable), great plot (debatable) and, above all, amazing characters (undisputable. If someone tells me he/she/it didn't like any of the characters, he/she/it is probably lying). Plus, the game lasts a good while with the lengthy main quest and numerous side-quests.
  18. Ah, yes, the most "forced" visor ever. Seriously, it's like they ran out of ideas. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jennifer_Hale Check Hale's notable roles and recent Video Game history.
  19. I thought of Lady Sia, but it's not that one, is it?
  20. I like them both, but I gotta go with capcom. Capcom: Megaman (and ramifications), Street Fighter (and ramifications), good Zelda games, Capcom VS games and Ghost 'n Goblins were all games that I enjoyed. Others that I didn't play but look appealing include Phoenix Wright, Viewtiful Joe, God Hand, Power Stone and others. However, for some reason, I have always been indifferent to Resident Evil and Devil May Cry. Konami: Castlevania, Ganbare Goemon, Contra and a few licensed games (Ex.: Tiny Toons, TMNT) are great. I don't like football, so PES doesn't interest me. I never really played Metal Gear Solid seriously, so no opinion there. Wasn't too fond of Silent Hill 4 (the only SH I played). Yu-Gi-Oh is fun for a while, but easily tires. Overall: Capcom EDIT: Most people here are asking recent good Konami games. The GBA Castlevania games were quite good. Have yet to try the DS ones, though.
  21. In Super Metroid and Metroid II, you couldn't use the additional jump to bomb jump higher, I think. I hope we can do that, though. I liked that bomb jump sequence to get an energy tank in Metroid prime and wouldn't mind having another one. But with the additional jump included.
  22. What the...? Smash Bros. has a story now? This game is mysterious in so many ways... Plus, that robot thing reminded me of the shroobs at first. Then, the dark smoke surrounding him reminded me of the Ing. Maybe it's a villain made of different villain parts?
  23. Namco has been doing that for awhile. Some recent moves by Namco: -Porting Tales of Symphonia for PS2; -Remaking Tales of Destiny for PS2; -Porting Tales of Phantasia for PSX, GBA and PSP; -Porting Tales of Destiny 2 and Tales of Eternia to PSP. Tales of Innocence: To my knowledge, Tales of Tempest was a huge letdown, so let's just hope that this game recovers. Tales of Symphonia 2: Not much to sat except
  24. Yeah, I wasn't lucky with Mia, since she never managed to kill anything by her own. I had the same problem with Tanith as well. Astrid was awesome as well, since I used Gatrie to help her level up. She had low strengh, but was godly in everything else. Rhys was extremely fragil. He was strong, but he was the character that died the most. Boyd and Gatrie were awesome by themselves. Jill and Lethe were supporting each other, making themselves awesome. Same thing happened with Ike and Oscar. And, of course, Reyson. He's just awesome all around.
  25. Your Ike was strong because the level up stat gains are based on luck.
