Is there something magical about the wii?
jammy2211 replied to dannbrownn's topic in Nintendo Gaming
You've really got to look for yourself, cause there are quite alot and they all appeal to different types of people. personally, I'm hyped for RE:UC, Zack and Wiki, Trauma Centre: New Blood, King Story and Guitar Hero III. There really is tons though. -
I think their a company who suit working with the 360 and ps3, and don't blame them for it. However, they're seriously deluded if they don't think the money this generation is there to be made on the Wii. Just ask Ubisoft :/.

Dam postal strikes mean I won't be getting this until Monday earliest. Not pleased, gonna have to whore Metroid Prime 2 over the weekend now . God, I haven't even touched Super Paper Mario yet :P.

For me, it's the fact that the Wii has moment where it takes me back 10 years to when I was a kid first playing my GameBoy, or first playing my Snes, or experience 3d gaming for the first time on the N64. It's all new and different it sort of takes me back to the days I was first discovering gaming, and really has reignited my love for gaming after the ps2 started to feel like the exact same thing. Guess that's why I don't see alot of appeal in the 360 or PS3, I'm tired of how they to me feel like last generations gaming but with upper graphics. The Wii hasn't had all that many games yet though, it's going to change sooner then later. I guess I'm used to the wait, I mean I owned an N64 from launch :P. -
I'll have my site's review up by the weekend . Provided it arrives tommorow .

For a game with what should be much more limited appeal then those games, I think it could rack up an incredible amount of sales. I doubt it'll outsell GTA, but maybe GT (As PS3 doesn't seem like it's going to be the software-seller PS2 was), it's certainly going to outsell Melee and is going to get the Wii a market it really doesn't have alot of control in yet.
-
Do you know if that's retailers or consumers? If it's the latter then just wow, that's amazing. This game is shaping up so incredibly, just can't wait.
-
Ps3 has sold over a million, the sales in the data are from 2007, and PS3 gained some sales in 2006.
-
The original sold very well in Europe so I'd assume it's likely.
-
There's no way the DS has sold 19 million in that time period, I'm guessing the hardware sales are different? *shrug* Looks good to me, hopefully Wii kicks arse in Japan as I want every JRPG under the sun :P.
-
Yay, I'm getting a review copy of this . Will see you online in about a week me thinks, hope it's good!

I have alot of link in the industry and have spoken to people about it and what not. It's just how I and the people I've spoken to feel about it. It's more sites like 1up and Gamespot, when I read some of the stuff they post you can hardly call it unbiased.

I think some of the gaming press discriminate on the Wii, because it's shaking up the industry and changing the way they have to perceive games and do their job, and they're not prepared to do that. 360 and PS3 allow them to treat, play and review games in the same way they've been used to for their entire careers, and now the Wii demands them to try and perceive a game from different opinions for different types of people, and they're not all up to that. I think GameSpot's review of Metroid Prime 3 is the best example, despite all it's new gameplay features, revolutionary controls, extensive single player blalh blah. They'll still find area's to criticize it which other games seem to have ignored. They ranted on about how the game feels the same as the first two, but don't mention this when reviewing games like GTA, Halo, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry and the rest. I'm not really sure what is going to happen, I think IGN do a good job of trying to adjust to the new demands of reviewing Wii content, just my opinion though. I don't see the press ever really adjusting to it, at least not the gaming press.

I think the problem is all the multiplayer games are old now. We've played Wii Sports and Warioware to death, R:RR didn't really support 4 players properly and Mario Party 8 wasn't really worth the money for me. should be solved soon, but at the moment multiplayer games just feel like what we had last generation but with motion controls. I'm hoping from something more then that (hopefully with Ghost Squad and Samba De Amigo).

Following the trend? Of 2 games? I don't think that's a very sensible thing to do. Especially when you consider Halo 2 is in a much better position to sell copies then Halo 3, so really Halo 3 should be compared to Halo in terms of sales-ability. My biggest problem with the gaming press is they seem happy to 'ignore' faults for something like Halo 3 when deciding the final score, whereas Metroid Prime 3 and such are discriminated for lesser reasons. It's sites like Gamespot which seem guilty of this to me.

I mean like in price. Games like SonicATSR's / Excite Truck / Red Steel etc are getting quite cheap now at retail, so this sort of game may be thrown in as it costs near nothing to the retailer.
-
Too true, it's a bit of a joke really. It's really where the console should shine most. However, I expect Rayman Raving Rabids 2, Smash Bros, Samba De Amigo, Ghost Squad and Mario Kart to change that, along with some other games.
-
I don't think it's very likely, we'd probably know about it by now as it is only about 6 weeks ago. Nintendo are having a hard enough time keeping up with demand, when it's Christmas the last thing they can afford to do is upset their production line by introducing a new coloured model. We'll see new colours in 2008, probably black and pink. I'd guess a price drop would be to follow then too, maybe...
-
Shops do these bundles all the time, they're not official ones but they're bound to have one for Christmas. Probably be about £210 for a Wii, Wii Sports, Mario Galaxy and a second rate game like SonicATSR's or something.
-
I think Nintendo are gonna kick arse this Christmas as seems to be the usual nowadays. Wii will outsell DS me thinks this year, but both will be in a huge shortage. Don't see Microsoft making a huge impact, they'll get the sales peak as usual but no real reason why it's going to be all that great. Don't think things are going to get better for them now they've released they're biggest game. Sony will also get a sales peak but they're just going to further their gap from the other consoles. PS3 will come back in 2008 me thinks.
-
And Super Mario Galaxy won't be bundled with Wii's? :/.
-
When New Super Mario Bro's launched the DS had a worldwide userbase of about 18 million users, whereas Super Mario Galaxy is set to release to about 13 - 14 million users. If anything I'd say Super Mario Galaxy has the advantage for sales, as it's being released much closer to Christmas and will be avaliable for longer in the Wii's lifetime. No handheld Mario platformer has ever outsold it's console counterparts in a single generation, so I'd say Mario Galaxy should be looking at well above 12 million in the very long term.
-
He never said it hadn't :/. There's no way Halo 3 should outself Halo 2 though, considering the circumstances it's being released too.
-
No where near the same sort of scale sales wise as Mario, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Wii Fit (potentially) and Mario / Sonic Olympics (again potentially). Microsoft have played their biggest trump card, and it’s going to be very difficult for them to exceed Halo 3 ever. It’s been a huge success thus far and will probably sell a lot of 360’s, but from here on in I don’t think the 360 has anything the same size as the Wii games-wise (exclusively, that is).
-
On the note of advertising, can I ask what benefit advertising a game before release does? If the game looks really good, and people will rush out and buy it, why would you want the advert a week before release (When they have time to change their mind, reconsider etc) then a week after, when people will go out and buy it instantly? From Nintendo's point of view, the sales the gain from advertising arn't effected by when they get them. If they advertise a game 2 months after release, why should it matter? They're still getting the sales and to most people a games release date doesn't effect if they want it. Also, the Wii's extra userbase is going to be the telling difference between sales. The Wii is going to have a huge huge userbase by say, Christmas 2008, and I reckon by then we can expect Mario Galaxy to have far surpassed wherever Halo ended up stalling.
