  1. Gears of War doesn't count, it was made on the Unreal Engine which Epic had no licensing costs for, as well, they made it. It's been in developement for over 7 years (unreal engine) and is no doubt the most advance developement tool in the industry today, whatever Gears of War sold wouldn't cover whatever it cost them to make. So er, Gears of War isn't a good example, developing a game from the ground up will cost $15 million minimum, and to port between 360 and Ps3 will push it up higher. $10 million is still far more then alot of companies could ever dream of getting to fund their game anyway.
  2. Well, some people will tell you it's 100%, so I'm just trying not to get people going to mad at me :P.
  3. It's not as similiar as I remember it. Perhaps I'm thinking of something else, see what I can remember :S. It definitely has some retro feel to it.
  4. They're not the most reputable source but they don't hide the fact that they're not all their accurate. They have a article which posts their figures compared to the official NDP figures and in hardware they're normally about accurate to 15% margin for errors and software is less then that.
  5. It's the secret world which you use star warps to get too.
  6. Okay, firstly my source is VgChartz, some people trust them, some don't. I think their software sales give a reasonable estimate and normally are within 10% correct of confirmed sales later. Anywho, they've got Metroid Prime 3 down to have sold 314000 units in it's first 5 days in the USA. Now, this is incredible sales, and sort of throws the whole 'Wii has no hardcores' debate to pot, when you consider Metroid Prime 2 sold 180000 units in it's first week, to a console with twice as much of a userbase and in November, a month much better for games sales. It's still early days but I think it bodes well for Metroid Prime 3 to become the best selling in the series, and hopefully give Nintendo a wake up call that there is still the huge market for people like us, if they really needed it. Also, Wii outsold DS this week, which is a sign of the wolrd going to implode very soon.
  7. Here's the pic .
  8. Money speaks louder then words.
  9. I think it'll still happen to an extent, I mean, some companies just don't want to support the Wii for whatever reason, and there's no doubt we're going to get an influx of utter **** just from the fact it's selling so well (a la DS and PS2). Saying that, it's not going to be anything like GameCube was, cause well, alot of publishers simply can't ignore the best selling console, and alot of developers won't see the Wii Remote as an obstical but as a tool to create something unique. I'm already seeing alot of Wii games from third parties I want, and alot of these are the sorts of things GameCube just didn't see. Lest we not forget alot of the smaller, low key developers are going to be exclusive to the Wii and DS this generation, as not everyone can afford the $20 million+ dev costs of the 360 and PS3. I'm looking forward to seeing all these developers pop up with awesome looking random games that surprise people, stuff like Trauma Centre and Mercury Meltdown.
  10. Life and Air seems seperate, so I'd doubt it.
  11. Perhaps if the Xbox wasn't a console clearly catered to the American market with a range of games that are traiditonally unpopular in Japan and have never been accetped by them - namely first person shooters, action shooters, third person shooters blah blah. Yeah, it does have other games, but even these arn't particually popular in Japan. They're trying to expand into it a bit, with stuff like Blue Dragon, Trusty Bell, Lost Oddysey etc, but 3 RPG's really isn't going to cut it in Japan where to conquer the market you need to be hitting out big name games every 3 weeks or so to keep momentum, it's how it's always gone in the Japan, and Nintendo are doing it best at the moment. Japan isn't being arrogant, it does respond in sales when the rare ocation of a game with appeal to them is released, just the 360 is clearly a console catering for American tastes.
  12. Just, wow. I love how much they're trying to make this game feel retro in some ways, like the planet which is the shape of the star world in Super Mario World. Just, awesome. I can imagine while playing this game you'll just go to every planet and think about something you see, every object triggers a thought in your head, just amazing. God, this couldn't come sooner.
  13. Hey, no ones forcing you to read it. Ultimately you're the one who looks stupid, cause you're spending the time to read and reply to people discussing something you don't care about. It'd be like me going on a gardening forum, and saying they suck cause they're talking about lily's. Move along now, no one cares what you think . Anyway, I don't see how you can discount the handheld sales. It still shows the Mario License's ability to sell games, and that at the moment Mario is far more on the way up then the way down. Do you honestly think the 11 million NSMB's owners arn't looking at Galaxy and wanting it? I'm sure a good majority are.
  14. Seems this rumour has some strength to it, I mean what the hell have Monolith been doing lately :P. Alot of pieces come together really, the IGN interview, the 1up interview. Not saying it will happen or anything, just thinking out loud. It does answer one question which had me confused though, with their huge focus on casual gaming and stuff nowadays, I couldn't really understand why Nintendo would buy a company like Monolith Soft. Sort of makes sense now, *shrug*.
  15. They're entirely in charge of developing Disaster: Day of Crisis, but it seems to have disappeared. My gut feeling is it's finished and ready, but Nintendo are holding it until 2008 as there's no room in the release schedule from now on. Anyway, Monolith confirmed they're definitely working on an RPG as well as Disaster, so we're going to get some love from Monolith on the RPG front, and they've got the credentials to pull off something epic.
  16. I've no idea what any of this means, but could it be because the Wii has worse graphics then 360 and ps3, and thus Nintendo want screenshots to look better so they remove these sorts of features? Just a completely ignorant yet educated guess.
  17. I would reckon so, Mario Strikers was getting 25000 log ins per week a month after release and that's not even that big of a game. Mario Kart will sell much more. Handheld gaming is never very big on the online thing, I don't personally 'get' online handheld stuff as I thought people would buy it for portability :S. Pokemon works though, but yeah, it'll be fine . Unless Smash Bro's is too addictive for everyone lol.
  18. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=187222 So yeah, make what you will. Just to add a bit of fuel to the fire no one seems to have picked up, the Monolith head guy has confirmed they're working for an RPG on the Wii (as well as Disaster: DoC). Interview - http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/731/731580p1.html
  19. Yeah, I do think it'll sell more and I'm not saying it'll flop, but it's never going to reach the 8 million Halo 2 sold because it's on a more expensive console, with a smaller userbase, at a time when many other first person shooters are avaliable on the console it's being released on, as well as on PS3 (HAze, Unreal tournament) and PC.
  20. Thing is, how many people are there who would buy Halo and not Gears of War? They're both hyped up to a high level, both shooters, both are the biggest online 360 games and both appeal to the same market :/. Halo will sell more, but I don't see much of a difference between the appeal of GoW and Halo from a sales perspective, except Halo is a more well known franchise.
  21. Cause there really is a limited amount of people who post actively on these forums, and even less who can be bothered to express their opinion to start a debate about things.
  22. They had some games long before Nintendo set them up, I don't know if any retailed but they all looked pretty passable (except Ravenblade, which looked awesomeeeeee). Maybe I'm confused with another company about a game released, but Retro definitely were going before Nintendo swooped in. I think Mario will sell more in the long term, but Halo will be in the lead come new year. I'm putting Halo 3 at about 4.5 million by summer 08, and 6 million life. Halo 2 was sold on a console with a much larger userbase, which retailed at $199 when released. Halo 3 has a more expensive console to sell with less then half the userbase, so the sales are obviously going to suffer. However, Wii's are still flying off shelves at a stupidly fast rate, and Mario still has a selling power which is stronger then anything else in the industry (look at NSMB and Mario Kart DS). Hell, Even Mario Kart DD / Mario Sunshine sold amazingly on such a small GameCube Userbase. I think Galaxy could exceed 10 million in it's life time, and will be about 3 million come the new year. Both Nintendo and Microsoft will be advertising these games to an excessive amount, Nintendo certainly seem more 'on form' with their advertising though, probably because I haven't seen a Xbox advert in a long time.
  23. Just look at what happend to Factor 5 when they lost Nintendo's overlook and guidance lol. Same could apply to Retro, they were really going nowhere (their released games sold bad etc) but then Nintendo helped them produce the Metroid Prime's once they swooped in. Hell, even Rare seem to have taken a downturn, although that may be for other reasons as I think Microsoft give them alot of backing and resources. They've still not matched the level of something like Perfect Dark or Conkers Bad Fur Day though, to me. It's not a discredit to these companies, just what seems to be evident over the years.
  24. I think for Wii graphics, I'm more hoping companies will push themselves artistically then technically. I much prefer a beautiful game then one with good graphics, cause to me, you can throw as much bump mapping and textured layers or whatever, but it'll never look as good as a game with a unique and well pulled off art style. I'm all for this video games as an art stuff, and if companies can start making styles as beautiful as stuff like Mario Galaxy, Okami, No More Heroes, Wind Waker and Zack and Wiki I'm gonna be in heaven. I really hope it goes in that direction, I'm not saying I don't want realistic games but I just think the Wii more suits artistic games. It's up to the third parties to push that though, so far, I'm impressed with what I've seen.
  25. Awesome Quote, that's sort of like part of my childhood during the N64 days. The day I got the console, the wait for games like Mario Kart and OoT, my face when I first saw Mario 64, and then controlled it. I think that's one reason why I'm backing the Wii, it's offering something compeltely new like the N64, and I want to try and rekindle that feeling I had as a kid as it got better and companies learnt how to get more out of it. I've had the horrid wait I remember during the N64 for OoT (it was sold out for 2 months!), now we just need Metroid and Mario Galaxy to deliver.
