  1. Hunts aren't unlocked all at once? BOOOHHHHHH! I was hoping to fight some high-level monsters to finally have an actual challenge FFXVI has the same problem as Sea of Stars: Once you fought your first battle, you've seen it all. Yes, you occasionally get one or two new abilities but they change fuck all. The more I play of FFXVI the more this turns out to be a "this could've been so much more" game...The world, the lore, the characters, the enemy design...it's so good but the game itself falls flat on so many levels. I wish this was a traditional, turnbased Final Fantasy.
  2. What's with the lipsync? Sometimes it's spot on, sometimes it's terrible. Even for major characters
  3. Now onto comparisons between 2022 and 2023. Two graphs max per spoiler tag. 29 games less than last year. Spent some more time "outside of" gaming, mostly taking care of my mental health by spending more time with friends and the student association I volunteer in. I'll keep doing that next year, because it helped me immensely. Will be interesting, whether I'll be able to slip in more gaming time again Unsurprisingly, the number of total Platinums has reduced, as well PSVita is dead? PS5 still strong. Steam Deck has mostly been in the "Slay the Spire only phase" PS+ Essential seems to have been pretty bad for me this year. I played way less, but spent a lot more this year...Well, I extended my PS+ Premium sub until 2025, bought a couple of games on release and digitally, and I bought a Steam Deck. That explains it. And that's my gaming year 2023. Quite happy with it overall Any plans for next year? Financially survive the onslaught of JRPGs...
  4. Yay, it's that time of the year. This will a little less dramatic than last year's thread. It's statistics. THERE'S NOTHING FUN ABOUT STATISTICS! And don't worry, Timmy is gone and he will never be seen again. One graph per spoiler tag! Ups and downs. My trophy hunting days are officially over. I do like to go after some Platinums, though. It all depends on the game and the trophy list Favourite Platinum? Spider-Man 2 Worst Platinum experience? Sea of Stars No surprises there. Quite surprised to see only one game from PS+ Essential. Not surprised with PS+ Premium. It sucks PS+ Extra has delivered, though. Ys VIII is a bad, bad game. My Game of the Year? 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.
  5. Good man. The trophy list is also very fun. Aside from one trophy which is just tedious (clear a level with the weakest weapon only...).
  6. Didn't think I'd finish one more game this year, let alone such a banger! When a game makes you feel badass even when you reload, then it's a great game Was very surprised to see who sings the final boss' theme: Yupyup, highly recommended! PS+ Extra delivers yet again
  7. Ah yes, the good old "more gil", "more AP", "more EXP" accessories have arrived. Screw more damage
  8. Decided to only buy Halls of Torment and the new Vampire Survivors DLC. Should last me for a while
  9. Man, these spectacular sequences are fucking fire Patience, my friend Waiting for a sale myself, though... Still got my PS4 copy sealed. Will keep it that way. It can only increase in value Oh no So far, R2+▲ does the trick!
  10. I know...makes me sad I guess I still have FFI-VI to play, as soon as the pixel remasters are on sale. So that's nice. Reeeaaaally hope the next Dragon Quest won't go that route...I think I'll go on a rampage if that happens.
  11. Yes, I truly miss the RPGness, but I've accepted the fact that FFXVI is the Yakuza series in reverse I like the combat. Especially the fact that perfect evasion windows are relatively generous. I hate games where it's (almost) frame-perfect. Maybe I'll get tired of it, but 1/3rd through the game, I still love every encounter! I do, however, hope that Final Fantasy will go back to traditional TURN-BASED JRPG goodness for the next mainline game. But I fear this won't happen... Anyways, I feel like I'm currently at a point that's building up to something huge. Smaller fights, a small bossfight, Cid has a plan...GIVE ME THE SPECTACLE
  12. While I would love that, I doubt you'd enjoy it. There's no real meta progression aside from a couple of relic and card unlocks. Once you unlocked 'em all (doesn't take too long), that's it.
  13. Good lord... I just went to a small village, met a lady, talked to the lady, followed the lady, talked to her again, followed her again, talked to her again, followed her again...you get the gist. For every incredible moment there is at least one hilariously boring/tedious/stupid moment.
  14. Always weird seeing H-o-T talking about rogulike modes and actually getting trophies for them. Voluntarily. This year has been crazy.
  15. My PS5 says I'm 1/3rd done with the game. I do wonder when it "opens up". I was expecting more side-quests, maybe some hunts for optional bosses, minigames. Do these things not exist in this one, or is it one of those "ok, the final battle awaits, but here are a million other things to do now" affairs? The story also seems quite grounded. No overarching super-duper enemy hellbent on destroying the world Not complaining, just wondering what FFXVI is
  16. Awesome!
  17. Uuuurrrghhh, I want to read that spoiler so bad
  18. No discount, sad Ehem...it's called Crystal Project. 25% discount. Not too bad. Found out that there's a demo, so I'm gonna give that a whirl later!
  19. It's really good! 4 levels left and it's been such a blast! Also quite challenging, even on normal difficulty. Beating a level also unlocks some challenges, which add interesting twists like: on each kill your weapon changes or only kills with ultimates count. Makes for some good variety. Speaking of variety, the only thing that sucks is that the game suffers from Nintendo's "you have to fight the same boss a million times" syndrome
  20. Yup, those were the good old days. I downloaded the app just for the sales back then Key resellers (think of them what you will) are better more often than not.
  21. Countdown It will start soon. Thankfully for my wallet the Steam sales aren't what they used to be (90% off of most games back in 2013). Still hoping for one or two roguelites to have a nice discount. Most importantly The Void Rains Upon Hear Heart: Also very interested in Project Crystal:
  22. I'm gonna interrupt this broadcast for a very special message: Been playing Metal: Hellsinger for a bit just now. Finished the tutorial and the first level so very early impressions. What is this game? A rhythm FPS. Is it good? So far, yes! How does it work? You run around and attack enemies to the beat of the song. The better you are (i.e. if you keep staying on beat), the higher your combo meter (and in turn your damage) goes. The higher the combo meter, the more layers of the song are revealed (vocals at the max level). Now, I've listened to some metal back in my younger days but the older I got the more I preferred rock. Couldn't enjoy the screams in metal anymore. However, I still do enjoy the riffs and holy cow there are some bangers here. Granted, I've only got access to three songs but man...the first boss' music: Pretty sure I headbanged my way through the boss fight
