I can't dig out footage to prove it suggests either way there is more to go after 100, but that is not the point: - Even if you stop at 100 points, you will get the bronze trophy the next day so next time the tournament rolls around you will know you need to get more points if you want the better trophy. - Whether it is up front mentioned or not, people talk to each other. A lot of us knew about it here and a lot of people were getting to 300 for this trophy - no doubt they wouldn't have gone to 300 points it there hadn't been a reward tied to it. And this is what I'm getting at - the fact there is a reward tied to 300 points, means some people will go for it, because they want the trophy. Doesn't matter how much Nintendo publicise it. They tied a reward to doing something unenjoyable. If they had just tied that gold trophy to getting all the gear then people will have still spent an hour fishing but could have left it there.

Are you about for trading? -
I don't think it's even above 1% for me. You will get to a point where you have the fish you need so you aren't crafting bait anymore, and where a new recipe only comes in occasionally. My daily tasks usually involve hitting rocks, talking to villagers, digging fossils, buying stuff, visiting people...crafting usually only takes place when I break something, aside from the occasional recipe I get.
-
No, see what you're doing there in bold is putting words in my mouth. When I said it's crappy, I was refer to fishing without prejudice or aim other than to accumulate points, rather than fishing in general. Having people fish for hours to simply accumulate points is boring. They could have made this interesting, but instead they opted for a points counter. Even Harvest Moon games have done fishing competitions better than this and they didn't take hours to complete. That's the last time I will make this point. Please be respectful, read people's posts and try to understand their point of view and the point they are making. You do not need to defend Nintendo at every turn. It is fine to admit this was a poor event, or disagree and move on, rather than keep trying to tell people the event they didn't like was actually fun (or the dreaded "you were doing it wrong"). There's every chance they will have some good events in future. They are encouraging people to do it by having tiers and making it clear you reached a bronze tier at 100 points. If they didn't want people to aim higher, they wouldn't have had added a gold tier at 300 points. By adding tiers they are actively encouraging people to do it for longer. You said that the entire point of the game is crafting. Not sure why I need to repeat this - crafting has never been in Animal Crossing before this game. So how can you say crafting is the entire point of this game? Crafting is an addition to the series; the core of the game is what it has always been. Crafting is just one addition to the game, and I'd argue you spend only around 1% of the time crafting.
-
How can crafting things be the entire point of the game when Animal Crossing has never had crafting up until this point? You don't half say some strange things...
-
But it is advertised. As I say, you reach 100 points while accumulating the unique items and he tells you you've hit bronze. Therefore, you know you need more points for higher tiers. This is not some information tucked away by Googling, he literally tells you what tier you're at when you hit 100 points. Again, doesn't matter whether you personally felt compelled to get 300, end of the day there is a reward tied to doing a crappy thing over and over again. That particular aspect is bad game design, whichever way you slice it.
-
The rewards are also the trophies. Because you know, you get rewarded them. Not sure how you can say they're not encouraging you to grind when there's literal trophies you can display in your house being given away as reward? Whether you personally want them or not is not the point here...
-
I don't think they'll carry over at all; it wouldn't make any sense for it to work that way given the way it's presented as a competition that's happening that day.
-
This is why it can't be defended. Why even put prizes in for "useless busywork", as you say. Obviously people will try to get them as a gold trophy might look quite nice in the house, but it's a shame that you have to grind a boring, menial activity to achieve it.
-
Actually it does spell out a goal, or at least a thing to do. While you're still getting all the new pieces of gear you will hit the bronze level (100 points), at which point he will tell you you have reached bronze. So you know that you need more points if you want to get a prize higher than bronze. The event should have been only 45 minutes to top out in its current state. There's no point in taking up 3 hours of people's time if they're just repeating the same boring task over and over.
-
More like 3 hours. Without bait I'd say you're getting 6 fish on average because fish spawns are not great, plus you have to replace tools that break every so often. The biggest question though, why would you even want to do this for more than an hour. It is dull, there's no variety to the game - the only quirk is that if you catch 3 you get a 2 point bonus, which is easy. No second bonus at higher amounts, and nothing else interesting about the game. No competing with villagers or anything. They could have done so much more with this game. Could even be that you submit a fish to be scored and that the fish you caught also had weights (so landing a heavy, expensive fish nets you gold). Far more interesting than aimlessly catching any old fish and watching a points score trickle upwards. I stand by that this would be more fun if gold needed just 100 points. If it's a pointless grind then a shorter pointless grind is better than a long one.

Thanks. Edit - sorry I was confused at first. So blanks mean it's needed, Y means person has it in the museum, and a number means the person has that many spares. Got it. Happy to exchange now if you're about? -
My main problem with this is that it needs 300 points in a day to get gold. It's just too many. If they made 100 points the gold that would have been perfect. And the excessive amount of text, which is total bullshit.

Do you have the town hall built yet? That might be the requirement.

Yep mine was in a Google sheet that I copied and pasted here. Here is a sheet that people can add to. Make sure to create a separator after the person before you. N-E fossils trading sheet. -
I don't think I'll bother. No point catching fish over and over just for a gold trophy, rather spend it doing something else.

I get an awful lot of dupes now when it comes to fossils, so I'd like to trade my dupes for ones I don't yet have. Putting my dupes here as well as those I need - let me know if you want to trade. Can't you get people to craft you a copy of the ones you need? Which ones do still need?

I'm pretty sure the more stars you pray on, the more you find on the beach next day. When I prayed a lot one time I found far more stars than when I prayed only once or twice.
-
Yep, they definitely can. The stars will then appear on your own beach.

There's a few imperial items too. The imperial bed is a big four poster. There seem to be a few golden items popping up in my recipe list too, so maybe that's a set. I remember getting the golden furniture set in New Leaf.

This is exactly right. @Ronnie your point about the Mark Cerny presentation - probably more than 95% of people who will go on to buy a PS5 will never have seen that presentation! Also regarding the Mark Cerny video being "universally derided", it was far more upvoted than downvoted, so I don't agree with you there.

Sony have generated far more interest with what little they've shown than Microsoft have done by dumping a lot of information at once. There is something to be said for holding your cards close to your chest, and playing those cards at the right time. Touching on your comment about the gaming community - the vast majority do not hold a grudge. As soon as Sony release some information gamers don't tend to think "well that controller is cool, but Sony kept me hanging for so long that I'm going to buy an Xbox instead".
-
One thing we can definitely say is that Sony know what they're doing in terms of releasing information. The way they're releasing information in small amounts has everyone paying attention whenever they're doing it.
