And Nintendo just keep on cancelling: So, KIA: Metroid Prime Trilogy Batallion Wars 2 Wario Land: Shake It! Mario Strikers Charged Not confirmed that this applies to Europe as well, but seems very likely. Get 'm while you can!

...sigh... Since, the cancellation-bug isn't restricted to Metroid Prime anymore, I've posted this on the General Wii-topic too.

I gave in and bought it yesterday, and curse my bottom for not buying it earlier! This game is great, and beats Devil May Cry IMO. The action is unrelenting, the game suitably selfaware and it's just damn funny. As said before , I got the PS3-version, and yes, the technical issues are there (longer loading times, lower framerate, occasionaly some sound desynchronisation during cutscenes, some blurry textures), but it remain one awesome game. It doesn't hamper the gameplay or the sheer sillyness of the game. It's not half as bad as some sites want to make you believe. And it truely is a great excercise to find all the references to movies and games. RE4, Viewtiful Joe, Madworld, Terminator, Out Run, Virtua Fighter, Devil May Cry, Assassins Creed, Sonic... The list goed on.

I can but scratch my head. Three great games of an established franchise, optimised for Wii, a great showboat for what Wii can do... and they discontinue it? It's another kick in the teeth for gamers. As if region-exclusive games weren't enough... Why don't they discontinue Wii Music? It's not selling very good, and they'd do most gamers a favour, really. Once again I can only ask... Nintendo, why?? What has gone into your head? You want the mature/hardcore gamers to turn their back to you? You want Retro Studios to be pissed off? Makes sense, because right now the last thing Nintendo need is another 2nd or 3rd party developer making quality titles for Wii.

Well, it's been out here for more than a week (unusually early for any launch), and despite my previous comments regarding this game, I'm thinking about getting it tomorrow anyway. The demo is fun, and I musn't forget the game doesn't take itself too seriously, and that can only be a good thing. I'm getting the PS3-version, despite all the bad press surrounding it. I think it's a little overblown really. Yes, the textures aren't quite as sharp, there are loading times up to six (Six!! Dear Lord!!) seconds and the framerate isn't as smooth, but they said the same about The Darkness ans Orange Box, and no complaints there. They are still great games, just ported rather badly. As long as it's still fun I see no problem.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
Strange Cookie replied to CoolFunkMan's topic in Nintendo Gaming
It sucks, but it makes sense. UC was released when there were few onrail-shooters around. Now it's just oversaturated. But to turn their back to Wii altogether... It's more like not wanting to admit maybe another onrail-shooter wasn't the best way to go, and just blaming Wii instead. Would it sell better on PS3 with the Wand? I wonder... As much I like DC, I can't help to ponder on what could have been had they used those rescourses for a RE4-spinoff. But in the end, it's not that bad. We have lots of Resi games, with the best version of the best game, and 2 good onrail-shooters. Hey, not too shabby! Let's hope Tatsunoko vs Capcom fares better saleswise.- 415 replies

Boomshalakalaka indeed! Didn't see that one coming. Let's hope they honour the series and it's nothin' but net. Yep, keep those Jam-references coming!

Nintendo 2010: A Taste Of Things To Come!
Strange Cookie replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
2009 has indeed been a good year for Wii. So roll on 2010! I've got my eyes on... Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Tatsunoko vs Capcom Sin & Punishment 2 Red Steel 2 FFCC: Crystal Bearers Endless Ocean 2 Epic Mickey (if it lives up to it's potential) No More Heroes 2 Trauma Team Monster Hunter Tri Fragile Dreams I'm not sure yet about Metroid: Other M. It's still too early to draw conclusions, but I'm sceptical about Team Ninja's involvment. We've had enough Primes, so a new direction is to be applauded (escpecially if it's a Super Metroid-direction), but I hope hope TN keept things... subtle and subdued. Guess I'll have to wait and see how things unfold. The Grinder has potential, but High Voltage has to earn my trust first after The Conduit. Not buying into the hype a second time. -

Stab in my heart, mate. Still boggles the mind not to bring this out here... Can't you just pretend it isn't really worth it, just to make me feel better? Still we've got Disaster and Another Code, so I shouldn't nag too much. Still, why not release these titles overthere too? *sigh* Back to ExciteTruck and dreaming of what could've been.

The more I play this, the more I like it. And I like it a lot! I have to admit it felt pretty lame in the beginning, but it gets better along the way. Shooting feels genuinly fun and precise (moreso then the original DS) and the story is compelling. The graphics are a bit jaggy, but the animations and facial expressions are excellent. You really feel like you're a real character and surrounded by real people (the living ones, anyway). It's good you're not a mute obey-o-tron with which you should identify. It's upthere with the best IMO. And better unlockables than the next-gen versions: fully animated and voice-acted comics? Beats thrilling concept art right out of the water anyday.

Sega: We Probably Won't Do More Mature Titles For The Wii
Strange Cookie replied to Dante's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Ouch. That's gotta hurt. A shame, really. HotD and Madworld are great games. The Conduit... Meh. Not awful, just not very good IMO. DS:E was great too. I like to play that more than the original DS, but that just may be me going crazy. I understand it must be frustrating to be a 3rd Party developer on Wii. Unless you're taken under Nintendo's mantle, you're up against the Nintendo's franchises, a broadened demography, a kiddy image and a pain marketingwise. Nintendo should be more supportive when it comes to 3rd Party developers. Very true. I love HotD and Madworld, but I wouldn't call them mature, but rather just bloody and sweary. There are very few games I'd define as mature, on any console. On a sidenote, I was playing the demo of Bayonetta recently, when my girlfriend commented that it was a game made for frustrated nerds. Couldn't counter that one. Curses... I'm holding back on buying that one, simply because, although the gameplay is good and the action in unrelentless, it relies too much on sexual innuedo and violence. Just like Dead of Alive lost my interest around the time you could alter the wiggliness of them boobies. I don't need all my female protagonists to be bug-busted, half-naked and kinky, just like I don't need the male ones to be all bald spacemarines with big guns and trees for arms. Whatever happened to 'normal' (relatively speaking) people in games? Why does Bayonetta have to be so unsubtle? Yes, she's sexy. I can see that without the game constantly reminding me she's got big peepers and she's naked under that hair. Despite all the sexual content, gracious violence and buckets of swearing, sometimes I just think: 'Oh developers, grow up already.". If we wanted that, we'd buy magazines. Cheaper, and easier to take to the porcelain throne. -
Well, it looks like someone has been busy on the visual front. See more here.

I bought it one Day One, and I still pop it in very often. It's not a game you play for days on end, but it's very, very addictive, not to mention utterly hilarious. I'm not a completist myself (60 stars will do, thankyouverymuch), but damn if I don't want that last piece of junk! :p The controls are very good. No needlesswaggling or the like. Like Redshell said, shake to scare people out of their clothes. And yes, that makes sense in the game. Ubisoft did something I never expected these days: they surprised me with a really good game! Let's hope RS2 follows the same trend.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
Strange Cookie replied to CoolFunkMan's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I can't grasp why this is getting worse reviews than Umbrella Chronicles. It's better in every way. I even prefer this to Dead Space. It looks great, the gameplay has tightened up from UC and it's the first time I can hear fear in Leon's voice. Ha, so the posterboy hasn't got icewater running through his veins after all. :p The camera is wobbly, but only when you can shoot, not when you have to. It's got a great Blair itch-feel about it. It's really like being there. very cinematic indeed. As for the storyline, it's not consistent with previous instalments, but hey, It's Resident Evil for crying out loud. It's not the compelling story that makes the zombies heads burst, right. And as said earlier, the graphics are amazing. And thank the heavens, they made the crosshair less bulky. Hooray! A great lightgun-shooter, and the best on Wii IMO, with Dead Space a close second.- 415 replies

Got this last thursday (Yay for broken street dates!), but due to an insane busy agenda, I've only played through the first world. Loving it so far, though! It's better than the DS-version IMO, even if it's quite conservative when it comes to design. But then again, what can beat SMW and SMB3? Weekend come I've got the kingdom all to myself. Bowser and his helpers *cough*kids*cough* better watch out! Come to think of it, it's cheesy the kids are suddenly mere helpers. They have way more personality than Bowser Jr., who is nothing more than a mini-Bowser. Bowser sure is one cruel father, dissing seven of his kids for one lookalike. I smell a retcon-rat...

It's was rumoured, and now it's confirmed: No More Heroes is getting ported to the PS3 an Xbox360. - launching at 5,800 Yen in February 2010 for Japan - brand new Advance Mode - Japanese dubbing - a new 'Erotic Portrait' (...?)
-
It's quite fun, actually! The graphics are butterysmooth and it does indeed have a Burnout-feel to it. Very arcadey. And the one-handed controls... work? What's next, cats and dogs living together? Anyway, the only issues I have are: Each country has a #1 racer... which occasionaly shows up in a race, but the cutscene is more or less the only time you have any interaction with the dude/gal. The early cars are too hard to drift, which takes a lot of the enjoyment away. Endure for a little while, and soon you'll drive cars who drift a lot better and easier. It won't set the world on fire, but you can do a lot worse IMO. And don't let the style put you off. It's a perfect fit.

Yep, this is one addictive game! Gotta love those rabbids! :p It's way better than I had expected, really. It's not the deepest of games, but it sure in fun. And it has rthat compelling one-more-go-feel to it, or even worse, that I-can-do-better-so-let's-do-that-again-feel. So... many hours... lost... Oh, and made me a Mario-rabbid. Scary as hell, I tell ya.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - Reflex Edition
Strange Cookie replied to Dyson's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Well, I've played the PS3-version, and decided to give the Wii-version a spin, and my impressions are more or less the same as always: Yes, the graphics are seriously downgraded, what is to be expected. It's not the best looking game on Wii, but better than WoW and it's quite impressive that what matters is still inthere. In short, it's SD (d'uh), 30pfs, no fancy lighting-effects, details missing like not being able to shoot television, some smoke is missing, some background details aren't there (plants, boxes, etc)etc. But nothing that has an impact on the gameplay has been compromised, like being able to blow up cars, etc. So graphically, it's not bad, but no new standard for Wii. But taker into account that every single setpiece, every single character, enemy and vehicle is inthere. No small feat! What stroke me as odd is that the mission-briefing cutscenes are very badly compressed. I've yet to see some framerate problems and an effect on the reticle. I won't say it's a smooth 30fps at all times, but very rarely it dips slightly in very intensive scenes, but you don't even notice. No problems with the pointer whatsoever. Makes me wonder if IGN's copy is buggy. Gameplaywise, it's the same ol' love-it-or-hate-it. I personally love the extra control the Wii offers. It's harder in some places because it's not so easy to simply rest your reticle and wait until someone pops his head up. But I thinks it's more fun than dual analogue controls, and is a defenitive advantage of the Wii-version. Definitive version? Nope, just a different version. The visuals have been cut back considerably and it has a defenitive effect on the overall expierence, but once you don't compare to the HD-brothers, it's not that bad. Controls are a plus. Wish it had some more buttons, but it's more fun and natural. But... as with all FPS's on Wii, if you're not sure, give it a rental first. -
I've been looking forward to this game for a very long time, and boy, was it worth the wait! This game is awesome! The best of the three vanillaware games I've played so far (the others being Odin Sphere and GrimGrimoire). What I'm about to say is controversial, but this has gathered more amazed looks at my TV than MW2. And the gameplay is up there with the best of them. The only gripe I have is that the jumping takes a lot to get used to. At one point I had to jump up a series of hanging platform, which was more frustrating than it should have been. But nothing you can't wrap your mind around. Hmm, I always had my Wii on the Dutch setting, up until NFS: Nitro forced some horrible Dutch cutscenes down my ears, so I set it to English. Is the back of the box in English? Then everything should be English once you're Wii setting is set to English. I must say, I'm amazed they even bothered to translate this game to Dutch, even if it's just partially.
