Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes (24th June)
Glen-i replied to darksnowman's topic in Nintendo Gaming
No. There's no guarantee. Fire Emblem Warriors had plenty of villains from the three games represented (Gharnef and Iago, for example), but you never could play as them. It didn't matter too much though, as they had the same attacks as other playable characters, so nothing much was lost. The first Hyrule Warriors did let you play as the three main villains that weren't Ganondorf after a free update. Age of Calamity almost did the same thing, but one villain that seemed to be prime material for a DLC character never actually happened. Fire Emblem Warriors makes great use of the tactical aspect of Fire Emblem. (Victory normally lies in what characters you deploy and exploiting the enemy's weaknesses. Weapon Triangle and other stuff like using Marth/Chrom/Lucina against Manaketes) It was a lot more interesting to play and encouraged you to use a variety of characters. It was just let down by 13 of the 32 characters being clones of each other. It also wasn't helped by narrowly focusing on three games, Awakening, Fates, and Shadow Dragon, (Celica and Lyn are there, but are clones of Marth and Navarre, respectively and get unlocked right near the end of the game, they feel like an afterthought. Lyn is totes awesome though) I'm hoping that with the focus on Three Houses, there's not as much need to have so many main characters using Swords, so there can be a better moveset diversity. So that's what I want from this, a more focused, uniquely playing roster, and the Gatekeeper as a late game joke character unlock. Then I feel like this can be really fun. -
Modern Kirby games are less of a platformer and more of a combat focused game. Kinda like Bayonetta.
-
Original N64 version. It differs from the 3D All-Stars version by having the Backwards Long Jump still in it.
-
I kinda want to play it more just because of this out-of-context clip...

He claims he came up with this idea last night with one of his friends, but I remain suspicious that he just stole it off me when I mentioned it before having a nap... That said, I'll be shocked if K.Rool doesn't show up, he's garnered quite a bit of renewed popularity thanks to Smash and he would fit beautifully with the Strikers aesthetic of "Everyone is psychotic and angry" Just make his bloodshot eye 50% more bloodshot for this game and you're golden!

The first thing I thought when I saw the first Kirby trailer is "This kinda looks like Mario 3D World" so I mostly agree with you. The key difference is that Kirby focuses more on puzzle solving and combat, while Mario is all about the platforming.

Theoretically, if I were to just ditch the scoring system and keep it casual, would you be OK with a theme night popping up now and again? Not every week, mind. But with 56 tracks available once this DLC gets going, it can be easy for certain less popular tracks to get ignored. It would also be a way for me to spice things up with the occasional Battle Mode, or 200cc, or even Frantic Items. While I'm at it, @S.C.G. If I'm understanding right, you're fine with the tracks being set in advance for Theme Nights, but it's when vehicles are restricted, that you start to have problems? Because I can certainly consider just choosing tracks and the cc format.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition (Out Now!)
Glen-i replied to darksnowman's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Some of the features this version has. Like the implication that you can choose to have the original visuals. -
Someone's quick to make assumptions. Would be prudent to to get people's thoughts on the matter first.

So, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Booster Pass was revealed, which over the next 2 years (almost), will add a further 48 tracks to the already existing 48 tracks, taking the total to a mammoth 96 tracks! There's no disputing that it's totally worth the £23, but a few people (mostly people who own the WiiU original) have stated that they're tempted to get a copy of the DX version now. So, I'm thinking it's the right time to consider bringing back the N-E League. But before I jump the gun and fall flat on my face, I want to guage interest first. So, to everyone who's getting the MK8 Booster Pass, there's a few questions I would like feedback on, so I have an idea of how to handle this. But just in case, a quick reminder of how it works: Simply put, the League is a structured way to organise a weekly get-together to play some Mario Kart. Before it was discontinued, we'd generally play 12 races each week, while I kept track of how everyone performs. At the end of the season, I'd take everyone's average scores and declare a winner. To keep things interesting, I would periodically impose "theme nights" where everyone would be restricted to a specific character and vehicle setup, as well as the tracks in play. Sometimes, I'd throw in Battle Mode, or maybe enforce Mirror Mode, whatever took my fancy. (Or whatever suggestions I got from other people) So with that out of the way... 1. Would you be interested in taking part? Simple enough, really. But when I say "taking part" I generally mean regular attendance. I discount any scores from people who participated in less then 50% of League Nights at the end of a season to discourage people coming in one week, winning, and then buggering off so their average remains high. 2. What day and time works best for you? Let's face it, adult life sucks, but it can't be avoided. For this reason, it's very unlikely that everyone will be available at the same time each week, not to mention those pesky unforeseen circumstances getting in the way. With that in mind, what day of the week works for you? And what time would you be available? Due to my circumstances, I'm only able to organise this on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. So I'd appreciate it if you chose one of those days, as well as a time. I can't please everyone, but hopefully most of us can figure out a day that works. 3. Do you want scores to be tracked? I remember a couple of people stating that they weren't exactly keen on having their performance kept track of. It's a valid point, so if the League were to come back, would you prefer it if I didn't keep track of everyone's scores and kept it very casual? Or do you think the existing format would help to encourage people to stick around? 4. Should Theme Nights be bought back? The main idea behind Theme Nights is that it helps keep track diversity going, while also putting everyone on a level playing field by making everyone use the same character/vehicle setup. But maybe you don't like some despot declaring restrictions from his lofty perch and just want to use what you like? Or maybe you like the idea of having tracks be predetermined to keep a healthy rotation going, but don't like being told that you have to use Waluigi on a bike? Or the other way round? Or maybe you just want to curtail me into only mixing up what cc we play with? Let me know. ----------------- I think that just about covers everything I want to know. But if you have any other questions, don't be shy, I'd like to hear them.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition (Out Now!)
Glen-i replied to darksnowman's topic in Nintendo Gaming
It's actually impossible to get everyone. Plenty of characters are mutually exclusive depending on choices you make throughout the game. -
I think it's more making his point that Mario Kart Tour doesn't deserve his money.
-
Boy, it's not being vague about merging the two numbered titles together in some way from that interview, huh? So many questions!
-
It's defo for everything.
-
You spent money on something you get for free anyway? Do you get it sooner or something? He does get to keep it once Switch online eventually gets shut down. But take it from his cousin, this is mostly a statement against Mario Kart Tour.
-
"Say hi, Ness!" "OK!" "That'll do!" Honestly, apart from the original Western PR back in the 90's, Ninty have been doing good with pushing EarthBound. They did a similar thing with the WiiU release. EarthBound Beginnings has the best NES title music, and I will fight people on Smash if they don't agree.
-
If there was ever a perfect argument for why I massively disapprove of Mario Kart Tour, that's it.
-
A lot of it is reused assets from Mario Kart Tour, which doesn't look as nice as MK8.
-
Quite surprised they're not sweetening the deal with some extra characters. But, ah well. The courses were the selling point of the WiiU DLC, anyway.
-
You can buy the Mario Kart DLC separately if you want.
-
Makes FF Pixel Remaster look like crap, again. I'm not complaining, but how does this very niche RPG get that lovely treatment, but Final Fantasy doesn't? Square, buck your ideas up!

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes (24th June)
Glen-i replied to darksnowman's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Please don't have clone characters, please don't have clone characters, please don't have clone characters! I loved the tactical aspect of the first FE Warriors, but god(s), the character diversity was a real let down! -
God damnit! @Dcubed. At least let me make a thread to guage interest in rebooting the League before jumping the starting light! That's a messed up boost start right there. EDIT: But yeah, I'll be doing that tomorrow.
-
I wasn't when I saw those ugly Mii replacements. But then I saw the Ninty staff use their Miis and all was mostly right again.
-
A lot of you getting hyped over that MK8 DLC... Am I going to have to take a defibrillator to the N-E League carcass? @Dcubed, you might have to dig up that old Laptop and get the files and Excel spreadsheet I have saved on it. But yeah, the first half was a bit meh outside of Fire Emblem Warriors: Age of Calamit... Uh, I mean, Three Hopes. Bit apprehensive though, because the first game was let down by half the cast being moveset clones, but maybe focusing on one FE game will mean we don't get Lord Overdose this time. I hope so, because the gameplay was top notch. In for Live-A-Live though. 2D-HD is infinitely better then whatever rubbish the FF Pixel Remasters are doing. And I suppose I might give Chrono Cross a second chance, only when it eventually goes on sale though. (OMG at Radical Dreamers though!) Those knock-off Miis in Switch Sports are awful. While you can use proper Miis, you just know they won't be the default, so you'll see them everywhere online. Eurgh! And Xenoblade 3? Yes please! Yeahhhh. I wouldn't put money on that.
