I think Bergsala is ripping off sweden and norway. I remember when they were the ditributor in here, new games cost from 57£-67£ and for example N64 cost somewhere around 330£ when new. I just checked it's going to be around 200£ in sweden also. I'm just glad I can get it for ~180£ and games for ~40£.

Go ahead and try to hook up your PAL cube to the TV with the S-video cable. You'll either get a black screen or a greyscale image. Nintendo decided to support RGB on the PAL cubes so they removed the S-video support from them. I don't know why though. NTSC cubes have S-video support. Maybe the RGB took too many of the pins in the connector so they had to leave the s-video out? To get the s-video image one would have to split the composite into the grayscale and color components. Using the capacitor mod this way (composite source to s-video) lowers the image quality to be even worse than the original composite is. So it's basically useless that way. But there are devices that one can buy to do that conversion properly. And I'm sure there are schematics on how to build one on the internet also.

No. But yes it's easy to convert s-video source to composite with the capacitor mod. The problem with the PAL gamecube is that it doesn't output s-video, only composite or RGB.

Well yeah, if you can get it for free. By the time the dx10 games arrive the card is outdated. And as it's the first of a generation I bet it's not totally bug free. I remember the days of switching drivers/settings on my 9700. And if I remember correctly it wasn't even among the first dx9 cards... That water cooled version looks nice though, too bad it costs as much as a new pc...

Oh sorry, just typed what run through my mind Well replacing it is easier, but replacing the fan shouldn't be that hard. If you're thinking about upgrading the pc then go ahead and buy a new card. I'd recommend that you don't switch brands though (from ati to nvidia and vice versa). But if you do want to do that, boot to safe mode and use drivercleaner, http://www.drivercleaner.net, to get rid of the old card's drivers.

Replace the fan in the video card and pray that the core of the gpu didn't fry when the fan stopped working. The graphic anomalies are basic symptoms of an overheating GPU.

Yes they've updated the eula for the retail vista. The OEM version of vista can only be installed once. At the moment I can't think of any valid reason to get vista. Or how it's better than xp. There's an anti-piracy software in vista? Seriously this os is sounding worse by the minute...
-
Yes it is. You can't get s-video out from a PAL GC. Some third parties manufactured the cables, but there wasn't much use for them as they didn't work with the GC. But I bought one and used it for my N64.

Really? Here there's almost a 200€ (~134£) difference between the boxed and OEM version of win xp pro. For home there's around 180€ (~120£) difference. And bear in mind that you shouldn't be able to even buy the OEM version itself. And the eula for OEM versions of vista says that you can not switch the os to another system. And this means you can't upgrade the system either. Unless you buy another license for vista. Well the aero looks awful if you compare it to the system requirements. Xgl on linux still looks better and runs on older hardware. And I've just read that I'll probably break the eula even if I buy a legitimate copy of vista http://www.securityfocus.com/columnists/420/1 ffs I thought they messed up enough with their dx10 shit. I'll play on consoles from now on.

I was going to post this (no offense though, just as a joke) http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php?d=20060513 But then it got me thinking. Maybe the file is drm- protected? If that's so you'd be able to play it as soon as you pay for it. Then the itunes solution would actually work. But if it's just some file containing random bits, itunes won't play it either. I'm not 100% sure if it works that way, as I don't have any experience on drm mp3's. Last time I installed itunes on windows I had to format the pc to get rid of it...

So in general the system looks fine. It will run Oblivion just fine. The CPU is a bit old, but still fast enough. And it's 775- socket, so you can upgrade it to core 2 duo later if you want. I think that core 2 duo E6300 would've been better for the system. But as I said you can upgrade it later on. And nobody said that the 7600GS was bad. It's probably the best budget GPU there is. I think that the core 2 duos should have a price drop in the start of next year as intel is releasing the core 2 quad cpu's.
-
The cpu part makes no sense... At least the E6400 part, as that's a core 2 duo model, not pentium D. Anyhow the 7600gs is better than the X1300(and yes, better than x1300 xt). And don't worry, It's very hard to keep track on what's good and what's not in the GPU market. It will play oblivinion fine, just don't go using resolutions like 1600*1200 with all the settings at high.

It's a basic card. Not a super fast gaming card, but if the rest of the pc is okay it's fine. There are couple of things that have had me worried. First is that the colors in video playback are sometimes messed up. And secondly in cs the transparent sprites (rain drops etc) were just black boxes. But that might just be a driver issue. Depends probably on what kind of games you play. It's good for a budget card, just don't expect any miracles

Don't worry the hatred towards M$ is too great for that to happen. It'll probably get cracked in a month or sooner. In the early terms of use to home users there were a limit to how many times the software could be transferred from pc to pc. The limit was once, which generated a stir as the users couldn't even majorly update the pc without violating the terms of use. That's fixed now so all is well, but I'm wondering what will be next stupid thing they come up with...

You can try to re- download it, but if it's a 'dummy' -file there's nothing that you can do it to make it play the song. Because the file doesn't contain the music.
-
It means that it's not a valid sound file. So if you downloaded it, it might be corrupted, or it's not a valid sound file to begin with. Or if you compressed it yourself something got screwed up during the process.
-
Download this http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/index.html and see what file it is. Because it seems like it's not an mp3
-
I fail to see why would anyone use wmp to play mp3's, but each to their own I guess. You could try to use another program, like winamp for example. Or if all fails see if vlc can play it.

Where does he re-install it from? If the drive is not detected in the bios, it's not gonna boot from a cd. There's a possibility that a cd/dvd that's in the drive might cause the drive not being detected. Do the following when the computer is off: There's a small hole in the front of the dvd, push a somewhat long pin there so it opens the tray. Then pull it open with your hands, take out the disc that's in it and boot the computer and see what happens. If there's no disc, check the cables.

The easiest option would be to setup the ip of the second pc as trusted zone in the configuration of the firewall. But remember to install a firewall to the other pc also. As if it gets hacked, it's an open door to your pc. I assume you use Internet connection sharing to share the network connection?

Basically using this method you can get the remainder just by using your head and a piece of paper(calculator speeds up the process though). First you see how many times (whole)12 goes to 82 which is 6. Then you multiply the answer 6 with 12, which gives you 72. You then proceed to subtract the 72 from 82 leaving you with 10. Which is the remainder of the divide. Probably there's a better way to explain this, but this is how I'd do it. The method I used can also be continued so you'd get the 6.83333.... but as you only want to get the remainder there's no point in going further.

Well stargåte sg1 has some great characters. The whole sg1 team. And on the ninth season the first few episodes would be pretty boring without Vala. Then there's atlantis which has McKay And Macgyver should also be mentioned.

Well on pc you don't have much of a choice. Microsoft and dx10 makes sure that the games will run on both ati/amd and intel/(nvidia?) systems. There might be similar optimized code available as there is now. But if it comes to that you have to have a certain brand gpu/cpu to be able to play games, I'll sell my pc and play more with consoles.
-
Actually kind of. They're planning to release codenamed 'fusion' chips after two years which combines the cpu and gpu on one chip. And there are rumours of intel merging with nvidia. It's a very exciting time for pc hardware at the moment

Well you're basically paying for nothing on that physics card. It only helps in a handful of games, and doesn't boost the performance considerably. edit: If you don't like waiting you could always go to the nearest PC store order the stuff (they might even have them in stock), and build the system yourself or let a relative/friend do it for you.
