  1. No, but perhaps your 3DS will gather less dust if there's more content you like. If you buy a game, you probably like it and want more of the same. Then, if there are no games coming out that interrest you for a long time (Now that Skyward Sword's come out, I've used my Wii for the first time since Goldeneye came out. Goldeneye DLC would make me play my Wii more).
  2. This seems quite interresting. No Gran Turismo, but it could be good.
  3. I just started playing and I can say the following: For some reason, the characters are more... "realistic" looking in Skyward Sword than in Twilight Princess. In Twilight Princess, some characters had very toony and exaggerated proportions, which made them stick out a lot. They just didn't belong in the dark atmosphere that the game tried to acheive. Also, in Twilight Princess, the surroundings felt more generic than in Skyward Sword. However, I don't think that Nintendo have acheived the painting-effect they talked so much about. If they'd have normal textures, and then applied some kind of paint-filter, then it'd be fine. Just imagine if Skyward Sword would have a painting effect that actually made the game look like a painting:
  4. Can I have Excitebike 64 now?
  5. What do people think of this game now that it isn't new anymore? I personaly enjoyed the singleplayer the first time around, but now I just don't have any urge at all to play through it again. The game suffers heavily from inheriting CoD's linear level design which caters for cinematic gaming experiences, but kills replayability. The multiplayer isn't what I expected either. This game is clearly built on the CoD engine, and supposed to remind people of Goldeneye. So I can't for the life of me understand why the classic mode, which is in CoD, didn't make it in to the Goldeneye multiplayer. Also, you can only choose your skin in local multiplayer. This christmas I played Goldeneye for the N64 and the game impressed me way more than the Wiimake. Goldeneye had more unlockables. I mean, the only unlockable I'm aware of is a higher difficulty setting. That's WEAK. In Goldeneye, there was a two page list of cheats. There are pluses, however. The graphics are on par with what you can expect on the Wii and the controls are solid.
  6. There are some excellent Wii rifle accessories. Although they're unfortunately designed for hunting games and I'm not sure if they work with stuff like CoD or Goldeneye.
  7. Still too similar. What about the "Nintendo Waa!"
  8. People have learned that the DSi is just a DS with a digital camera and capacity for DLC. And then they were confused and thought that the 3DS was a similar upgrade. So perhaps people have gathered that if Nintendo stick a letter before the name of an old console, it's a new console, if they stick it afterwards it's an upgrade. Hence they'll think the Wii U is an upgrade. Also, "Wii" has nearly zero cred among "gamers" (I quote because many gamers do like the Wii, I'm mainly referring to the people whom buy CoD every single year, claiming it's cool because it's realistic when in fact it isn't). I watched E3 this year with about 30 other gamedev students (nerds who live and breath games every day) and half of them just didn't understand what Nintendo were showing. Most people thought it was just a peripheral. And noone liked the name.
  9. Then one might wonder why they revealed anything at all this year.
  10. Although you have a point, the thing is that Sakamoto didn't make it alone. Nintendo probably let at least... ten people work on this full time for several months. Nintendo gave permission to waste valuable and probably tallented manpower to make this. I'm a game dev too, and like many others, I have zaney, quirky, unique and amazing ideas. But before my ideas are selected, I have to prove that: 1) The idea has potential to transform in to a good and lasting gaming experience 2) Can be done with our manpower 3) Takes a reasonable quantity of time to develop 4) Has the potential to make a profit 5) Will have a positive impact on the companies reputation 6) The idea must be scalable (make sequels, spinoffs, port to different formats etc) When my company looks in to our game ideas, all these criteria must be fulfilled for an idea to be even considered. I can only see this game fulfilling two, perhaps three criteria.
  11. I think it's strange for Nintendo to reveal a new system and then be completely quiet about it for a full year. Either they'll give us a fair share of info soon, or I'm certain they've almost completely redone the console.
  12. When I heard of Nintendo having a mystery Wii game that had been announced I was like When I read it was made by the Wario Ware people I was like When I heard the name was Kiki Trick I was like When I read the description I was like When I saw the trailer I was So there you have it: Nintendo are masters at wasting some of the best tallent in the industry. Kinda like GM deciding to shut Saab down.
  13. I'm really hoping for some previously unannounced Wii game to fill the gap until the Wii U launch.
  14. I want this so bad! Hope there'll be an english version some day.
  15. Scrap this and give us a game with a non-senile, non mullety Solid Snake in the main role for the Wii U instead. Oh, and don't include Raiden in any shape or form. Don't even waste time creating a cut scene where Raiden dies. Just acknoledge him as the mistake he is and drop him like a bad habbit.
  16. I think that Retro would like to do a lot of stuff which Nintendo probably will never do. Retro could make Zelda a bit more story driven and gritty. Nintendo have a habbit of creating fantastic worlds and then ruin them with silly stuff, like the floating bouncy castle in Twilight Princess. Or having characters tell you to press this or that button to do this or that. I usually get completely immersed in to games, but once stuff like that gets shoved in, my immersion is broken. I hope that Retro Studios will be able to bring Zelda on par with modern AAA titles. With Skyward Sword, Nintendo have created a really good combat system and a few of the puzles are actually challenging. Now Nintendo need to focus on graphics and storytelling, and perhaps ad even more upgradability to your items.
  17. Haven't played anything on my Wii in ages. Skyward Sword will be the first game in six months (found Nights 2 in a bargain min for like 5 euro), and the first full priced game I've got since Goldeneye.
  18. In an FPS, you cold hold the controller in front of the TV to aim. In a racing game, it could lisplay things like tire temperature, G-forces and that lot.
  19. Scary Movie 1&2. I used to find them both hillarious and was incredibly disappointed with the ones that came after. Recently I tried to watch it again for the first time in years and years... and stoped ten minutes in.
  20. I told you about this in a previous post. The guy who was sent to the US and talked with Nintendo was my teacher. According to him, it wasn't really the lacking online infrastructure that was the reason for DICE's decision, but the fact that the CEO thought that the GC had too much of a child-image. Sad but true.
  21. The Wii U will not attract casual gamers like the current Wii does. If casuals want an HD console with waggle, they'll buy a PS3 with Move, because it's already out, is established and it is cheaper than the Wii U in all probability will be. If they want something brand new, they'll buy an Xbox 360 with Kinect, because it's also cheap, established and has a lineup of games. Hence trying to attract people with Dance Central and other sleeper hits is unlikely. The Wii U will be an attempt to get the core audience back, while not excluding the casuals. Software wise the Wii U will need to have everything its competitors have and more. Nintendo are in a tough spot. Either the Wii U will be the last console of its generation, being launched moments before the death of the entire generation and sales will completely cease. Or it's the first console of the new generation, which just like the current Wii will be far out horsepowered once the competitors come out. This time around, however, Nintendo have one advantage more, and one less. Nintendo aren't opening the doors for non-gamers: they're already open, and to keep up, everyone else has also opened them. BUT, this time their console will at least for a limited time be the graphically most advanced machine out there. In that case, they'll need software which will make the high-end graphics loving game nerds wet themselves with glee, so they can get a head start. The third option is that Sony and MS aren't interrested in launching a new console within the near future. But in that case, the Wii U will STILL be the last of its generation, having sold some 50 milion consoles less than either competitor. And sorry, but casuals don't buy the newest and the best: they buy what they know and what's trendy.
  22. Mario needs to move with the times. And I believe that the franchise has!
  23. That's what Zelda was and that's what it should be now. Of course, not everyone needs to consider every Zelda to be a masterpiece. HOWEVER, for the last ten years, Zelda hasn't even been in the same league. I complained a lot about Twilight Princes' gameplay, but from what I've heard about Skyward Sword, they've taken notice and are fixing it. Well implemented motion controls? Check! Longer single player campaign? Check! An overhaul of the dungeon system? Check! Thus, I'm not complaining about it. But I am complaining about graphics, audio, story and that lot, because Nintendo haven't done a thing about that. Voice acting and story telling is far from superficial. It's a part of the experience of the game. Also, Mass Effect isn't all that different. The main difference is that ME doesen't contain puzzles in the same way as Zelda, and that the games take place in different worlds/eras. I explicitly wrote that it doesen't have to be first party. Nintendo are filthy rich right now, so if no studio feels capable/willing to develop a certain type of game, Nintendo just have to buy/start a team that is! Yeah, that would be sweet. That would be excellent! And Dreamcast games too!
  24. A lot of people seem to question if the Wii U will sell. The PS3 and XB360 have been out for years and years and have a huge back catalogue of HD games. Pachter said that for the Wii to succede, the console will need games: both the biggest and best multiplatform titles, which the Wii lacked, and killer apps, which to be honest the Wii never had either. So, what games do you think will be essential to make the Wii sell well. My thoughts are: First party: Zelda: With the Times Some people will hate me for saying this, but Zelda hasnt gone with the times. Zelda used to set the bar for pretty much everything, but not so for the last 10 years. Nintendo need to make a Zelda that's more in tune with the times. Nintendo need to reestablish Zelda as the biggest and best in the industry. The game needs to have the most impressive HD graphics available on any console, a very well written and well excuted story and actually they also need voice acting. Link can remain mute, but the rest of the characters need to talk. Yes, I've heard the argument that it's part of Zeldas charms that the mute characters are a part of the games charm, but I just don't buy it. It's like claiming that part of Driver 2's charm was the short draw-distance and thus you should see buildings pop up in front of you in all future Drivers. Putting it simply: the new Zelda needs to be more like Mass Effect. Mario A Mario platformer. Nope, no rant against anything, because the Galaxy games were great. But the console will need the fat plumber to sell well. Nintendo GT I've said it a bajilion times before and I'll say it again: any game geared towards core players needs a competitor to Gran Turismo. Sony had GT in 1998, Sega had Sega GT a few years later. Microsoft then paid Sega to release Sega GT for the Xbox before MS made Forza. Obviously these games sell milions and shift loads of systems, so why Nintendo haven't either made a competitor themselves, or paid someone else off to make it is beyond me. The game that could've saved the N64 and GC is now needed more than ever! Third party: Call of Duty: Whateverit'scalledthisyear *insert number here* I think it's a bit of a no brainer that we'll get these games, as even the Wii is getting them. It's one of the biggest IP's and not having it would be a disaster. Battlefield 3 This is the game that's supposed to knock CoD off the throne as THE FPS. And after having played the alpha, looked at the impressive footage and of course being a swede, I hope and believe that they succeed. Grand Theft Auto 5 We never got it for the N64, Gamecube or Wii, and we only got a pathetic cash cow for the 3DS, but we need this. GTA has allways been a system seller. Any other ideas?
  25. I haven't played on my Wii for months. Last thing I bought was Nights 2, when I saw it in the bargain bin. However, I only played it for half an hour.
