Really? Sexuality doesn't have to define characters. If Cloud from Final Fantasy VII had a gay love triangle and one of them was murdered blah blah it would be an important story element but it wouldn't take away from the fact he saved the planet. Same with Nathan Drake like mentioned, he could be an adventurer and a gay guy, surely? It wouldn't necessarily change their character in any way. I think representation is important, and the fact there's almost no gays in games makes me uncomfortable. Why not? What's going on there? You can't say it's not important because if there were no female characters, or black characters (bad example, there's not a lot of these either) or whatever the industry would be ridiculed. -

Thanks for all the feedback so far! Hadn't really lookedi into Persona 4 yet, will crack on with that to see if I can make a case study out of it. I think it depends on the games you play. It would be totally unnecessary in games like Tetris, thats true. But to play an obviously straight guy in 99.9% of action/adventure/whatever games that are getting pretty cinematic and narrative heavy isn't very helpful for a young gay kid looking for representation in media. It's an interesting debate at least. -
Hi everyone! I'm writing a third year dissertation on masculinity and technology, particularly looking at gay men and their relation to videogame (the games, the industry etc). Research is pretty thin on the ground (which is partly why my diss tutor encouraged me to look into it) and I'm a bit lost with how to continue. My interim report was returned to me with good feedback but said it needs to be more focused. SO. If anyone has any opinions, facts or feedback on issues involving gay representation, gay gamers relationship with the industry or gay developers and companies then leave a comment, it'll be greatly appreciated and hopefully make direction a bit clearer. Thanks!

I'm in the same boat, got massive amounts of work to do but can't concentrate on it for long because every time I hear a noise by the door I jump up like a meerkat.

This is my first post in probably years, but the Zelda postman anxiety drove me back here looking for solace. The postman hasn't come yet and I'm tearing my hair out waiting, the Wii is on and ready. I also ordered with shopto.net and got the "dispatched with first class royal mail" email yesterday morning. Good luck to everyone else still hanging around the letterbox.

Played the first half an hour or so, took a quick break for pita bread. Really enjoying it so far, if this is the 'slow and painfully boring' part of the game it's shaping up to be a great adventure. My only narks are the bizarre camera movement and motion blur (but I'm sure I'll get used to it) and no option to tweak the sound levels.

Can't wait to pick this up in the morning, however bloody PopJustice did a lets-rip-the-piss-out-of-Leona story and completely ruined the ending of the game. After waiting 4 years for a sodding game... it's like the Dumbledore thing all over again. Argh!

If only I could! Dying to get the PS back online. Played through the first 4 levels or so of LittleBigPlanet today. I really like it, but god are the controls funny. Flicking the left joystick up and down to move further and back from the screen, as if your moving between grids. Why can't I just free run closer? I guess it is primarily a kids game...

Someone has scanned in the first 28 pages of the strategy guide, which I imagine will come shoved in the box of the game like previous Final Fantasies. Worth a look if you want to get familiar with the battle screen etc. No spoilers! click me harder

I loved X's battle system. The sphere grid was scarily complex but worked well. My favourite game of all time is probably Final Fantasy IX though. I never fell in love with VIII and XII.

The apparently new and official X360 screenies do look a little more jagged than the PS3 ones. However, its the same game. Shouldn't be an issue. I have both consoles and I'll be getting it on the PS3. I think I've done a major whoopsie and spoiled the storyline for myself. At least a good chunk of it.

I think (and hope) that the hype for this game has hurt it more than anything. If this game was announced a year or so ago, and it hadn't been so long since a decent Final Fantasy then the reviews wouldn't be so harsh. If you actually read the more negative reviews much of the 'bad bits' are really nitpicking, and the fact that much of the first half of the game are very linear doesn't mean its bad. Its not restrictive for no reason, it's to tell the story and get the player used to everything without overwhelming them. Final Fantasy X was very linear, but that didn't necessarily make it a bad game - I don't think so, anyway. I really hope I'm right, and it's an enjoyable game. Oi, boys, calm down. Me too, my 3G contract runs out in June (perfect, right?) and in theory the new iPhone should be at least as powerful as the iPad, but have a camera and 3G built in as standard. As long as I can google, copy/paste and type a couple of paragraphs it'll get me by till I'm back in front of my desktop. But yeah, it really is a stupid purchase. I got a bit giddy on the hype I think.

I'm trying to choose between the two. Macbook as more functionality, iPad is more portable/flashy/fun. I only need one to do a bit of typing/researching on the go, but I also have an iPhone. But the iPad is a lot cheaper... will someone decide for me?

...SO - I'm probably almost halfway through Assassins Creed 2 at the moment and I'm enjoying it a lot but the screen tearing is driving my crazy. How can such a high profile game have been released with such bad tearing? It seems like every time I'm running through towns quickly or fighting more then three people my television throws a fit. It isn't just my copy, right? Google is on the fence. I've fallen asleep with my PS3 slim on a few times now (usually intentionally, leaving a DVD playing) and suddenly wondered if maybe I shouldn't? It never feels particularly hot in the morning but I can't handle a RROD equivalent so soon after purchase.

Where did you do it? Tempted with ShopTo but it's got a scary "first come, first served" message and I'm afraid I've left it too late. I might just pick it up in town on release day, all this pre-ordering stuff is giving me a heart attack.

An RPG shouldn't need an overworld to be a good game. Agreed? I really want this collectors edition. Really want it - but only for the sexy plain white case. FF box art shouldn't ever have pictures on the front cover.

Wow, high praise indeed! I thought Flower was just going to be relaxing fun! Can't wait to play it but i'm saving it for the new HD setup I have back home. Played a bit of Final Fantasy Vii today (which I'm betting looks worse on a HDTV!) it's still very good - I was worried it would have aged badly. Everyone should pick it up.

Ive decided to get Flower, Braid and FF VII. I can get more on my next visit when or I actually have money to waste. Also using CooInTheZoo as my psn ID to keep things simple.

PixelJunk, Fat Princess, Super Stardust and Flower all look really appealing. Also tempted with Final Fantasy VII/VIII for nostalgia's sake. Also want some demos and themes, surely if I wrap the console in a towel and put it between soft stuff in my suitcase it'll survive? If you think its risky I won't bother.
