My take on whether its region locked or not: The whole situation definitely needs to be clarified, someone has got it wrong. - You can probably play any Wii game from Nintendo on any console. - 3rd parties choose what they want to do. However online features such as the news channel are likely to be operated by each individual region and so getting a European console means that feature wont work in the US or Japan, or Australia.

Pros - Releasing system before Christmas, good line up of software showing real promise with less reliance on existing first party franchises suggesting possible strong long term third party support, the system will provide an unparalleled gaming experience with the revolutionary Wiimote. Cons - Buggy games still apparent [e.g. Twilight Princess, Red Steel], Failing to capitalise and deliver a massive blow to competitors with an overpriced console bundled with a tech demo [Wiis version of Luigis Mansion for GC], overpriced controllers, lack of quality NTSC only Virtual Console games such as Earthbound and Sin & Punishment, no choice of colour restricted to white only, Inferior graphics, LACK OF ONLINE SUPPORT --> No developments on what looks to be a far inferior online system to that of rival consoles, no DVD playback, No external hard drive support? OVERALL - Good, not great. Translates to a 7/10 and i'm being lenient but thats due to having some great features and benefits which you'd already be well aware of that offsets a majority of the cons. EDIT: What are those two other channels going to be?

A thread to express your thoughts on the details that have emerged over the past 48 hours whether it be showering of praises or expressing your frustration, the PROS and CONS, your own OVERALL verdict at the conclusions of these events and the implications that these business decisions will have on the success of the Wii Console.

Whites good, fits in with their generic "cost differentiation" strategy, setting their console apart from their previous creations, 1st Nintendo console to be White, PORTABLES are not consoles. Nintendo are obviously following Michael Porters theories of Five Forces Model and "cost differentiation" which I mentioned above.

I will purchase a Wii console within the first week along with an additional WiiMote and Nunchuck Attachment, and a classic controller as well. I ain't buying any VC games though until they release the real gems not released in PAL regions such as Earthbound, Sin & Punishment, Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG - The Legend Of The Seven Stars just to name a few. Assuming the US launch line up is the same, In terms of games, I will be purchasing the following [ definite purchases are bolded and pending purchases are italicised]: First-party US WII Titles - Excite Truck - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess <-- I know for sure i'm gonna be disappointed with the review scores of this game but i'm still getting it guaranteed. - Wii Sports (bundled with the Wii console) THIRD-PARTY US WII TITLES - Call of Duty 3 - Marvel: Ultimate Alliance - Rapala Tournament Fishing - Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam]<-- PROVIDING this game scores at least 8/10 in reviews. - World Series of Poker - Trauma Center: Second Opinion]<-- PROVIDING this game scores at least 8/10 in reviews. - Madden NFL 07 - Need for Speed: Carbon - Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz - Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII - Far Cry: Vengeance - GT Pro Series <-- PROVIDING this game scores at least 8/10 in reviews. - Monster 4x4: World Circuit - Open Season - Rayman Raving Rabbids - Red Steel <-- PROVIDING this game scores at least 8/10 in reviews but i've bolded it because I know at the end of the day, even if it gets 7/10, ill most likely purchase it as I am a big FPS fan. -Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent I have sufficient funds put aside for purchasing Wii and its games at launch so I could buy as many as eight games subject to how they go with review scores.

Zelda: Twilight Princess Discussion (SPOILERS: BEWARE)
solitanze replied to EchoDesiato's topic in Nintendo Gaming
http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732877p1.html This is concerning, the game is so close to release and still the gaming journalists still aren't completely blown away by Zelda: Twilight Princess Wii version. The control mechanics remain to be an issue in this game. Probably seeing that it wasn't designed ground up for Wii this was bound to happen. For example: The slicing mechanic is not one-to-one, which means that it feels nothing like holding and swinging a baseball bat in Wii Sports Baseball, for instance. Rather, if players gesture a swipe, Link will also swipe his sword - but it may not be in the same direction. We motioned several up and down swipes and occasionally Linked sliced sideways anyway. This is not particularly bothersome because the overall control method still feels very solid, but it's noteworthy all the same. I stick by what I said in other forum topics about this version of the game will suffer with review scores. It will be lucky to get 9 out of 10, the way its going... -
Will Australian Wii details be announced at this conference or separately in an unrelated press release?
-
Looking better each time its shown, the only concern I have is that the gameplay will consist entirely of small clusters of rock shaped objects, planets and not have any "MASSIVE Landscapes". But apart from that this game certainly has potential to be about on par with Mario 64. I actually think so as well, I reckon Twilight Princess will be lucky to score 9.0 out of 10 for average reviews. My final prediction for review scores for Twilight Princess is 8.8/10. My reasoning, is that I believe the worst will happen, and then be pleasantly suprised if it gets higher reviews.

This is Real - Wii Price & Date - Nov 19th US & $250 USD
solitanze replied to NintendoDS's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I think they'd do just that, release Wii in Europe first that is, after all, thats where the PS3 delay is not in USA NTSC regions, perfect market capitalisation opportunity as the PAL region is Playstation eccentric. -

W00T! Predicted the correct price, anyone else thought it'd be $250 US? What did people expect, i'm seeing it everywhere, lots of people complaining that the console price is a rip off, too high and that now they'll refrain from purchasing [not so much here, mainly in other gaming forums]. Nintendo like Sony and Microsoft are a corporation, they are there to make money, they committed to a price point of up to $250.00 US so of course it would be most likely as it has turned out Nintendo would want to maximise their profits and charge the highest possible price at which they have done. Not including an additional Wii Mote is bad in the sense that Wii sports is a multiplayer game and that it doesn't demonstrate the philosophy of the Wii to its fullest extent, but hey, they are in the market place to MAKE MONEY, thats their primary goal PROFIT MAXIMISATION. After all, they need to recoup the losses of investing into the motion sensing & tilt techonology as implementing this technology must've been pretty damn expensive and they'll do this through selling WiiMotes separately. -

The real announcement would announce price, date and "WHAT YOU GET" for the price you pay [i.E. Accessories included with console] right?

Its just before Christmas, Christmas rush, and its better than March 2007.

UNRELATED QUESTION HERE: Been meaning to find out the answer to this question. Is PS2 the most successful video game console of all time in terms of units shipped, or sold, quantities of games sold, or overall net profit? -
Whats there to be excited about with such a lack of key information about the console? The conferences coming up in the next couple of days may just perhaps increase the anticipation for the system. The quality of the graphics are bothering a lot of people so far, but in the upcoming days, once and for all we shall know the full capabilities of the system. Underpowered graphics is something people may have to accept but even with the innovative Wiimote, Nintendo will lose sales due to this, not too many though, as DS has shown [Gameplay over graphics].

London UK time is 9 hours behind Melbourne Australia time is that right? ^-- If this is the case the times for the conferences in Australian Eastern Standard Time at least according to this quoted post are: Japan: 11:00AM (Thursday) - 5:00PM (Thursday) EST United States: 12:00AM (Friday) - 6:00AM (Friday) EST Europe: 9:00PM (Friday) - 3:00AM (Saturday) EST ON AN UNRELATED NOTE: The fact there are three separate conferences in NTSC and PAL regions, does this CONFIRM region locking? Or do you think there is some trick up Nintendos sleeve where somehow the conferences all link together and announce that the Wii is region free?

A modern day Mario Paint? if so, i'll get it, however, must get at least 7/10 with reviews and must be a Wii exclusve, if theres a PS3 version, no purchase.
