  1. Honestly: the sims can't hog p that much. It still looks like a crappy Nintendo64 game in all the screenshots...
  2. You need that much for the SIMS 2? You're yanking me. 2 Ghz for a game that only needs 800 Mhz? If you only want the sims 2, most will be suffice!
  3. Couldn't they define and implement before releasing players? Now I'm certainly not buying into BluRay with the chance of having my HD player rendered unusable because the HD movies won't properly play anymore...
  4. You could change the regions 5 times and then delete DVD Player and reinstall it from your CD. Then you got another five vouchers.
  5. Download the installer of iTunes, and uninstall Quicktime with it. It should work.
  6. Why the hell would something as ridiculous as that end the war? Now something serious as Warner jumping the BD camp, or Paramount not extending it's exclusivity, that coudl decide the war. And not even 0.001% of the population would jump through these hoops.
  7. Yeah but the problem is: the only hardware components necessary for the clock is actually the battery. If it's not the battery, you can bet it's software...
  8. i don't think it's the battery, you clock would reset if it didn't work.
  9. But DVD replaced a previous, analog format. The switch from VHS to DVD was much more logical than the one to BluRay. I personally think that, before the time everyone's switched to a next-generation format, digial downloads will be the real future. Let's wait and see.
  10. You could try a DVD ripper that rips into conventional video formats. Try HandBrake, it's for Windows and Mac and I think you can rip those DVD's with it. It's a little of a way around it, but the problem is the recording to disc. Mini DV camera's are much better if you want to edit. The ones with discs are just great for families who don't edit it, just want to see what they taped. If I misunderstood you and you are talking about a hard disc, then I'd advice you to try Premiere Pro for a second, see if you can get it working with that. (There's a free trial on Adobe's site). If you can pull it off with that, you can pull it off with more mainstream too, and the drivers are avaible.
  11. All that japanese Mange and Ukiyo-e is starting to get so bog-standard. There was a time that Japanese art was fresh and new, but since the Pokémon, Digimon, Beyblade, and heaps of other series, the fun is gone. 5/10 Don't get me wrong, I love movies like Laputa and Akira. But those series? Djeesh. And this looks more like such a series than a good movie. I tend to love them, but this avatar is more for the nostalgia behind it. Anyone remember the scary avatar? It's back! It's my trademark. (And very soon I'll be making it with myself, I just bought a white suit, for 'posers')
  12. Don't tell me what I can or cannot live without. THere are plenty off neat-o signatures out there (and I seriously love your avatar), and they seem less 'made'. Ask any professional and they'll all tell you that once you start using those obvious effects, it's too much Photoshop. Professionals, though, try to avoid Photoshop except if they have to retouch a photo. It's not my fault that I don't like it. And yes, the drop shadow is also a very obvious effect. You have nice ideas, but your typografy needs more feel with the rest of the image. That's where there's a problem. And I know mine ain't fantastic right now (I'm not bothered to work that hard on it yet, I've got something coming up though). Don't be angry cause I said it was too obvious. People know something is made with Photoshop. Heck, everyone knows that most photos on advertisements are seriously altered, but that doesn't mean that we think that when we see it. Look at the links, and you'll know it's altered but you can't quite put your finger on it. That's what Photoshop is for, folks. Not for neat-o effect. Sorry, if you want that, you might find what you want in Word Art? Don't abuse Photoshop.
  13. Don't! You might have something rare in your possession. No really, why would you need to sell them? You've got some movies and you've got the player, so you have some use for it. There's no reason to sell it like it's your atari stock.
  14. Pretty cool. Gets an 8. Emasher: poor arguments. Just because people know it's photoshopped doesn't mean it has to look photoshopped. Don't use cheap-o effects, they're for beginners. As if you just learned the 'cool' effects that Photoshop gives you. And my signature is simple, has a great quote in it and it doesn't support stealing. It means that great people steal (hey, I do!). Like your beloved Steve Jobs - he used this quote to make stealing from Xerox right.
  15. Let's see tomorrow, maybe Bill Gates announces the Xbox with built in HD DVD. Not that that would really change anything, but it would make HD DVD a little more competive.
  16. Too much Photoshop-y effects, sadly. A bevel and emboss? That was popular back in the day that Adobe proudly pounded it's chest releasing Photoshop 1. Sorry, your sigs never really got to me because of their too-obvious Photoshopping, and you should keep photoshopping invisible. Once you see it's made with Photoshop, your image is plain faulty. Wich makes me failing you: 3/10.
  17. You never have much change from your previous ones, wich probably makes you consistent. You're reccognizable and I like the avatar. 8/10 And, as I warned earlier, Christmas is over - so here is Wiiman again! The Scary Avatar..!
  18. I quote: Nobody ever wondered why Apple is so succesfull right now? iPhone? That just a twenty-year old touch technology with a shiny outside. iMac? It's a laptop, but in desktop model. But companies copying Apple forgot one thing: Apple keeps innovating. Apple knew about a year ago that their original Apple White - shiny white - was going to get stale. Everything was glossy white. So the Apple designer stayed ahead of the competition and launched Matte Steel (how do they call it again?). Or the companies are going to find their own ways, or they stay behind. I know it's completely off-topic, but let me give this last quote as a great way of seeing how Apple works: Now that's the Steve we're talking about. I do advice everyone to see the movie 'Pirates of Silicon Valley'. Great performances, wonderfull story and quite exciting to see. It's when seeing that that you will feel how great the masterminds of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates (yes, he's great at convincing people!) are.
  19. It was a refernces to what you all should consider the best part of your culture: Monthy Python. Thank you for ruining the joke, though. And here's something to back up my all-follow-Apple argument.
  20. Sony knows what they should let people stare at. That's why the front of their players look much better than their back. That's marketing, pals. Sony is great at it (except playstations PR team, wich should be sacked and the people that sacked the people who were sacked should be sacked, too). They know how to market something. THey know the attractive name, and they know how to name their disadvantages actual advantages. The focus on capacity is what Sony made important back in the DVD era, so people are assuming that more capacity is better...
  21. But here's the good news: in the next generation of consoles, Nintendo will probably go for HD DVD. It's made by Toshiba, and nobody's using it, so there's little chance of piracy. And DCK, yes - HD DVD beats Blu-Rays ass anytime. The only problem is, Blu-Ray has got a name. He's like the weak, but cool kid in the neughbourhood. He can't defeat the big guy, but he's smart enough to convince everyone to protect him. In these days it's witts, not power that wins. Another obvious example: Apple. Apple is winning market share not because of powerfull computers, but because of smart marketing. Marketing makes or breaks your product, and the marketing for HD DVD is broken.
  22. The war is over. Let's just hope Dreamworks can manage to get out of their exclusivity deal, or they'll be in one messy situation.
  23. I honestly don't think that Toshiba would release HD DVD if it isn't the slightest scratch resistant. The specs are equal! They both output HD visual and audio, so the soecs ARE the same. It's not because it's a PS3 that all of a sudden your movies will be 2140p, you will have the same quality of movie like on any Blu-Ray player. The PS3 is an dishonnest exaloke because the PS3 can do loads of other things, too. You could say the Xbox 360 can do all that too, and still people discredit the 360 anyways. Again, if mt movie runs in 1080p at 60 fps with Dolby Digital Audio, than it can't be better on PS3 than it is on any standalone player. That's not marketing. Marketing means getting your name out there, being known, and being known for what you do. BluRay is better marketed as an HD format than HD DVD. Again, you have reduced marketing to something it totally isn't is. Marketing isn't getting as much companies behind you - that's just strategy. Marketing is getting people to know your product and love it. Maybe a MacBook isn't so good of a computer at all, but Apple's marketing still makes a big fuzz around it and people want it. That's marketing. I know that, but that doesn't mean they'll only support it. There are some rumors that Apple is working on a hybrid drive for it's computers, to give that possibility to professionals. I would understand why Apple would want to stay clear of choice. I'm not going to act surprised, and yes, Apple is probably supporting your overloved Blu-Ray format, but if Hybrid drives are announced, I will personally see to it that you het laughed in the face. Deal? But the cards are officialy dealed. Toshiba is in huge trouble and is looking into how it can ever defeat Blu-Ray if even it's major contributor, Warner, has given up on them. Toshiba cancelled their HD DVD conference on sunday and seems very sad about Warner leaving the game. The war, my friends, is almost over.
  24. Yeha okay... But honestly, this is really getting off topic now. USB has barely anything to do with HD video formats, now does it? I just said that chances are that the market will mimic Apple's move. Don't forget that laptops are all mimicking Apple's original PowerBook laptops. And that Apple's iMac is being copied all over the place (I'm looking at you, Dell). And that the iBook was the first laptop to come with WiFi, is an all-copied fact nowadays. Apple is a trendsetter (again i'm not starting the discussion, it's just fact - Apple has such a legacy, that every other company follows to stay with the front-end).
  25. Nope. It's licensing cost was way to high. Apple asked $1.50 per port, while USB only asked for a licensing fee of 25 cents. And, no offense, but the 'too much for most devices' is bullshit. Why is USB 3 going to be that fast, than? I doubt they won't adopt the USB 3 standard just because most mice don't need the speed. But back on topic.
