That's right. Just like the GameCube, the system doesn't pop on when the eject button pops open the disc cover. Yes. Point proven.

Does anyone know why we're waiting for opera if a browser is built in (although you can't browse it)? There's no need to release it after june 2007, Nintendo, we'de like it free. Yes, because we bought your first Wii's wich will probably sink in price next year before June. Yes, I'm talking to you Reggie.

Damage? Isn't going to happen. It's just like with your cube: stopping the gamecube before games don't get the disc scratched. By the way, why do you assume there's even anything inside the disc drive that can scratch the disc? It would be stupid if there was a needle, especialy made for those daily cases of shutting down before ejecting... I don't see why people think their discs get scratched by their discreader. Come on guys, there's nothing in there that could scratch your disc. That would just be stupid... The only thing that can scratch (but not with Wii) is your Hard Disk, but Wii uses flash memory. Your hard disc use a needle wich could scratch the plate if you drop it. But most computers have falling sensors wich lock the needle when the computer notices it's fall. So there nothing that can scratch any data INSIDE your computer. If you decide to mate a needle and a disc (and maybe get a Needisc or a neesc or something like that), then that's your problem. Normal people dont.

And what the hell does that reply on, martinist? I don't really get it... Anyway, I've only tried inserting a disc to see how it looks to be sucked in. And I loved it. I find it sad, though, that we don't see wich game is inserted. Come 'on, Nintendo, it's not hard getting the meatedata of the disc. You did it five years ago when you launched the GameCube. Now why not with Wii (but I mean GameCube games, not Wii-games, we all know what happens when I insert a Wii-game)...

Try again. My brother tried it first but it didn't accept. Delete the first one and make it a new one. The problem is: we can't just give our Wii-address to anyone to mail to it. I find that registering rubbish. Because we don't have to much regsitering possibilities... The Wii-code thing, okay, it's bad, but it's better than GameCube's. Wich is nothing...

My television is not on the floor, so problems with bowling are never going to happen. The controller will just bumb into the cupboard with the TV on. I can't really think of any other game where you need to do something so fast at the screen that the controllers jumps out of your hands and aim directly at the screen. And if you do that, you'll stretch your arm pretty bad. And by the way, my both wrist straps are equally thick, and they look good enough to keep the controller safe. What the hell are people doing to break the straps? Oh wait, I don't want to know.

Shut down your console first, like with GameCube itself. You can't return to the Wii because your Wii totally emulates the GameCube, and of course: GameCubes don't go to Wii Channels.
-
Now that we have a topic, does anyone know if you can just mail to the wii mail or do you need to be a registered emailaddress?

It looked better on picture, that's why advertisers use photoshop. I don't lik the hard blue color and it doesn't look half as sweet as the promotion make it seem. I like the console as much without the light, and thanks to the light it's clear when mum send my new orders through the magical WiiMail thing that probably runs through the fourth deminsion through the realm of the midgets to your Wii. Or via the internet.

On topic: no Wii's in Belgium for the coming three weeks - all pre-orders need to be filled. After that there will be plenty in-store. For the smaller shops it might take less time, so... But England, well, I don't know. I'm not from that little island. Yes, little Island. Would have loved to live there though, but what's not yet could become.

If you don't have a surround set, you can't set up DPL2. You need a 'home theater' (you know, those things with five speakers and a bass), or at least a home theater that can process DPL2. Then just connect it to the decoder (wich, at this time, is most of the time your dvd-player in the theatre). There's no more I can tell to help out here, though.
-
Pro Logic 2.1 actually means Stereo + Bass. It's actually 2 speakers + 1 Bass, that's what the 2.1 stands for. Just connect the red and white jags to your surround set and it'll be okay.

What's up with everyone wanting the next revolution? Since Ocarina of Time the games have being great, one after another, and still everybody wants a new formula. Zelda is great. But, I've bein playing halfway through Twilight Princess now, and it didn't catch me as much as Ocarina of Time did. And to me, it doesn't come half as close as the epicness of Majora's Mask. I wasn't hoping for a hyper-realistic aspect, but the best things, for me, are mostly gone. Where is the Goron City? Where's the sprawling Towns? Yes, Hyrule Castle Town might be full with characters, but none of them seem really interactive and let's admit it, it's plain boring to run through town. I hope Nintendo can deliver next time. No gloomy twilight realm, but an epic ending of the world and a limited time untill Ganondorf strikes his last time. Why not build an spectacular Lord-of-the-rings-type of ending to the series and build some more stories within it? Why not expand on Majora's Mask? I hope that sums up the ideas for a next Zelda. And epic instalment. And, honestly, what's with the give-us-voice-acting? I love reading the text, because the personality of the character is shown in the form that it appears, and you all know how it sounds in your head. Okay, the text of the light-spirits was quite unreadable, but I still love the complete silence when Zant appears and his text pops on screen. It's so mysterious...

Even if Nintendo loses the suit, they still have piles of coins stacked in their warehouses somewhere in the South of their headquarters in Japan. If Nintendo pays the same ammount of money as Sony with Immersion, the suit won't be any dangerous thing for Nintendo. However, as said before: the Z-trigger was suite similar and so the case doesn't really have a leg to stand on. I am waiting to see the suit coming to an end. But the question is mostly: why the hell doe they sue them now, and not earlier on, say, half a year ago? They would've known that back then too and they could have settled with Nintendo. Except if they tried and Nintendo laughed at them. Scoffed. Kicked them out of the Northern gate in Kyoto.

My local game stoer managed to get my pre-order secured. They're getting 27 Wii's and exactly the same amount of Zelda's. They are having trouble getting extra Wiimotes and Wiimotes with Wii Play, but if I'm not the first who ordered, I'm probably the second so I'll be playing Wii Play too. Good news... By the way, opinion about 'go away thread' not changed. Just posting that all game mania's in Belgium have received their allocation number today and will receive their Wii's tomorrow or friday morning. The real countdown has begun...

Looking good. Take that, SOny and Microsofts whose profits are soaring as high as the grand canyon. Wich is below surface, you know. Nintendo is doing great latel and I'm fully confident Iwata is going to bring Nintendo to it's former glory. Great stuff.

I'll be glad when this thread is over in three days from now. It's being going on for far to long and people have bein repeating their numbers way to much now. On topic, though: as for me, I'm twelveth on my pre-order list - and it's not a first come, first serve one - and they've sort-of guaranteed it. They're not totally sure though, but they wanted to bet on it, just because being number twelve gets your chances preticulairy high. Of topic though, I again express my hope for this thread to be doomed forever and never be dug up again.

I was hoping on finishing the Wind Waker again, but since my GameCube already found a new home (with my niece that is - I'm not selling it), I'll probably be studying my philosophy exam (wich is on Friday, great timing, yey!) or be playing on my N64. But most likely I'll be watching 'De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig: het Internaat' (Today's youth: the boarding school) on VT4 here in Belgium. It's incredibly funny seeing how kids are transported back to the fifites, to boarding school, and getting explaination about how jerking off will affect you sight and eventually leed to blindness. It's just that little thing that makes you smile everytime you hear it, just for the cheer quirkyness of it. And then it's probably of to bed. A sleepeless night. And an incredibly weak (but I don't hope so, I'm studying hard just for this exam, not to be accused of 'playing that PlayStation thing to much' - yes, my parents can't tell the difference between Wii and PlayStation) examen and then go to my local game store, pick it up and unwrap it as if a nuclear bomb is heading my way and I want to see my last best friends before dying. Or just like a happy child opening his long-awaited present, if you prefer.

I don't really think Nintendo will change the consoles insides. They will, in no way, upgrade the internal memory to 1 Gb. That wouldn't be fair to the early adaptors. Nintendo could have made the DS firmware-updateable or more internal memory for this thing, but they didn't. Because they're happy with this. If you want more memory, get a SD card seperatly. Second, I think the price is really good and accurate and for a launch, ut's great. People from my class are telling me that 250 euros is a fair price for new hardware launches, and they don't know the slightest thing about videogames. Controllers, however, are a bit too expensive and so is the nunchuk. I don't really understand why they're sold seperatly. My first Wiiimote, though, will be bundled with Wii Play, so I've got no problem payer an extra fiver for it, and I wouldn't have had any problem giving an extra twenty for it. I think it's a neat little extra. Aside from that, I understand Nintendo 'one colour, one setup' point-of-view. No Black is probably bad for a few, but it's a smart move. Their advertisements just work in white and the console production is ramped up because of the one colour setup. And if Black was another option, some people would be dissapointed because the blacks or whites were sold out on launch day. It's a smart move. Proud of you, Nintendo.

Myamoto said that they wanted it €100, but they couldn't reach that price because of the expensive parts like Wifi and fglash. That's what I heard. But combining that with retailers, make is €250. And Ireland is being ripped off. No other country pays that much.
-
They couldn't really have made it cheaper. It's that SD-memory that's in it, the LED_light (yes, it's expensive to make in that shape), the WiFi build-in and the Bluetooth that rack up the price a lot. It's not cheap having wireless technology. I'm pretty happy with the €249,99 as a launch price, but I remember (back in 'ye olde days') that GameCube went down €40 just mere weeks before launch. Don't know why, but I paid €209,99 for my black GameCube. I'm not dissapointed with no Mario at launch. First, we got Zelda, second, the GameCube launch was just a huge mistake and does not show that 'without Mario it doesn't work'. It had wrong timing, few games (though they promised a lot, just because they launched late), Nintendo was arrogant over the Xbox, the console was called GameCube and it was purple. Oh, and it's freaky ads were - thgough sublime - not attractive to the huge audience. But Wii has all these things in it's advantage. Before Christmas, lots of games (16!), Nintendo is the underdog and realizes it, it called Wii (pronounce it with a deep, steady voice. Not like shouting that you're happy, or it'll be the same as GameCube) and it's sleeky-apple-ipod white.

TO NINTENDORK: Perhaps you're right, but again, you're just sucking the fun out of an alive and kicking forum. Yes, there are some threads that need some more attention, but it's all about how you market those. If there's PODCAST on it, I'm not reading it since I don't really listen to your podcasts (dissappointed by the first one, that was a turn-off). You've replied to me and other people enough to make me realize that you're not the end-all mean guy, you're just trying to police the area. And street patrol's always end up in a mess this way. Now let's never speak of it again. But then again, who am I to control you on that? You're a free man, but thank God you're no moderator. There would remain almost no threads... On the mega-threads, totally right dude. The most annoying thing is that everyon is just blabering and postying sentence per sentence in reply to other. At least say something usefull instead of 'Yeah, he's totally right', but in those mega-threads, everyone is just part of the herd...
-
No, you don't get a classic controller with points. That's Japan you're talking about. Here, it's buying seperatly.
-
The problem, Nintendork, is that for this time you should stop trying to just be the critic on about everything and live up the hype for once. We're not all cool, mindless, soulless creature of democraty, you know? It's not because there's already a thread on this that everyone just has to hide their excitement in this thread. Why the hell do we even have more than three threads? Pehaps we should fuse everything in Wii General, Wii Games and Wii Hardware. All those zelda threads, component cable threads and other types gone. For-eer. You sound way to burocratic. You've had way to much paperwork. Don't take it as an offense, but as an advice. Even though I'm no Affinicado... ON TOPIC: Plug my Wii in, update, play with the remote for a second, arrange my channels and settings, play a bit Wii Sports (wich I enjoyed yesterday when a new store opened and the demopod was on a day-visit) and then get on with Zelda. And after that, get studying again for me exams. Sigh.

From Revolution to Wii - The Road in Pictures (56K Warning)
Jasper replied to Stocka's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Some great memories and a nice collection of images. Revolution had a nice day. Now Wii's in charge. Twelve days to go and we're getting our final flashback before jumping to the future.
