Caris Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Pfft, that sounds well easy. And you guys call yourself gamers? BUT I AM THE IBLIS TRIGGER
Guest Jordan Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 This game is totally broken, the soundtrack is weak compared to previous ones (stick on Green Forest from SA2 at the end of Wave Ocean the running bit and you'll see how amazing it is).
Mr. Bananagrabber Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 There must be something in the water up here. I also hate SA2, Sonic Heroes and Shadow. But I loved SA and this has been quite good so far. The city level was awesome.
Guest Jordan Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 SA2 > SA1. Apart from 2 levels SA1 had nothing on SA2.
The3rdChildren Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I just beat Sonic's story. I'm going to assume I need to beat all three stories to get the special ending episode, or S rank it up for a special treat? GameFAQs, here I come. --- If it makes any difference to people's thoughts about the game, I really did enjoy the Sonic story and stages. It was challenging fun. I dread going for S-RANK on some of the more annoying stages though.
Guest Jordan Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Run fast, kill enemies, get rings, don't die.
SimonM7 Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I think SA1 is vastly superior to SA2 too, I guess it's all down to how much shit mech and treasure hunts spoil the fun for you. Oh yeah and the missing adventure fields. This game does have drop ins from other cast members but nothing even remotely as head splittingly annoying as treasure hunting in samey looking space with Rouge. It also has FAR more Shadow and Sonic levels than anything else, and Silver is genuinely fun to play. So there. SA2 still has charm on its side compared to this one though, even if - in my opinion - significantly less than SA1. As for S-rank, I asked about it earlier because I can't figure it out either. I think points play a huge part, so you want to take out "the leader" in packs and stuff like that for "RADICAL!" up in the right corner. How many rings you have when its over also seems significant, because I beat Cerberus REALLY fast (using the blue shoes and everything to not give him a fighting chance) but I still ended up with B. I think I grabbed too few rings.
Hero-of-Time Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Well I played the first level this morning and pottered around the main hub area. I loved the opening sequence but then things took a turn for the worst. What the hell is up with the loading times??!! I talked to some wifey and it loaded then I accepted her challenge and then it loaded again for her to say 1 sentence then it loaded again for the actual thing to start.
Meik Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 So, has this gone down in price yet? I don't see why I have to pay full price for a broken game. Also, the people who prefer SA1 over SA2 are clearly mentalists.
SimonM7 Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Yeah, what's not to like about a broken up game where you barely get to spend time with the stuff that works, and emphasis is put almost exclusively on huge, exciting hunts for emeralds in giant, samey looking caves and other places, aswell as awkward mech combat?
Meik Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 What bothered me about SA1 was having to faff around on some crappy overworld for 10 minutes just trying to get to the next level. Different people have different playstyles and all that, but I really couldn't be arsed stumbling my way around a bland overworld just to find a certain character so I could play another level. If the overworld was well constructed and had lots of interesting things to do, sure. But it didn't. SA2's treasure hunt/mech stages never particularly bothered me, and I actually sorta enjoyed them in some sort of bizarre, sadistic way. I didn't, however, enjoy SA1's Amy Rose bits, or the robot bits (I forget his name). I won't get started on Big the Cat. Uh, also I found that the Sonic/Shadow action stages were generally more fun (to this day I can still play City Escape, Metal Harbor and Green Forever over and over again). And the soundtrack was better. Then again, what do I know? I liked Sonic Heroes.
SimonM7 Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Well, I'm not one to call you a mentalist, that's your wording. I see how you can prefer 2, since for all intents and purposes it plays better. For me, the adventure fields were a nice change of pace, and they were incredibly brief, never really obstructing progress at all.. The same can be said for the alternate stories with the supporting cast since they were sort of optional. SA2 forces the other, rather severely lacking gameplay mechanics on you, which I thought tainted the experience a lot. Also, every stage in SA1 had such distinct personality, whereas 2 really only has two that you remember proper.
dabookerman Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 I think Jordan not liking this game at all makes me feel better about not getting it.
Guest Jordan Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 I'm still gunna finish it, Silver's levels are interesting if a little weird. The fact you can grab enemies attacks and throw them back is kinda cool.
SimonM7 Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 I wonder if there's a trick to managing the last bit of Sonic's Crisis City without getting a car thrown in your head or if it's really just totally random. I do a perfect run on the actual stage, then I'm demoted to A or B rank because I catch too many cars with my face.
Guest Jordan Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Same here Simon, that bit is incredibly frustrating.
That Guy Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 :'( I really want to get it despite knowing it's so shit... So, are Sonics action stages as much fun as they've always been? Because I've always hated the crap they throw in there like the mech/treasure hunt bollocks. Is it at least as good as the Dreamcast games?
Mikey Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Sonic games = shit since SA1, which was flawed itself. People need to just accept all Sonic games will be shit, and give up on them. Nintendo should buy the Sonic brand, and make it good again.
That Guy Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 The thing is though, I actually liked the Sonic stages from the first 2 adventure games and could accept the flaws, and I'm just wondering whether or not this is at least as much fun to play as them. Let's not forget, at the time magazines were giving the Adventure games 8/10 and 9/10 in some cases. I'm still not sure what to do, I'm thinking of picking it up this week still, depends how much money I have in my account with Viva Pinata and the Wii out in the next 2 weeks. Damn you Sonic and your rubbishness.
Mikey Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 If you buy it dude, you'll be encourging developers to make shit games.
That Guy Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Yep, don't I know it... But I see everyone playing it on my friends list and I want to play :'( I'm just redownloading the demo to convince me how crap it is. If I like the demo, God help me. :|
Mikey Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 They'll stop playing it in a week, and you'll be stuck with a turd. Just wait a couple of days, and it'll be second hand every where, and you can buy it for like half the price. That way you'll still have the game, and you won't be encourging shit games to be made.
