Thanks for the link Mr_Odwin. icon14.gif

Only read a bit of it, but it appears to be a bit of a mixed bag so far. The main problem seems to be distortion due to the reduced tube size, it's not supposed to be very noticeable but I get a bit of that in the corners on my current TV and it can be annoying.

Anyway, I'm going to see if I can check it out in a shop first and base my opinion of it on that.

LCD's do not make SD shit, its all down to the panel of choice the tv contains. For example Samsungs are widely known to have a pretty shit analogue picture where as Toshiba and Panasonic are normally quite good, it is however true that nothing can beat a CRT for analogue displays.

The Samsung slimfits are okay, their biggest annoyance is more down to the way they handle HD than their picture quality.

What about the JVC AV28T5BKC?

or am i widely off the mark? lol

I was looking at that in the Argos book. It has 3 scart sockets, it's a flat widescreen tv!

However i don't know if it does 60hz!

It's obviously not 'thin' though....

Would that work for Wii? It's £279.99 with a stand?

It's a CRT isn't it?

The Wii may not look good on my Samsung LCD. I played a PS2 on it and it was quite blurry, not terrible, but i think it would annoy me!

If i need a CRT i'm not spending alot, actually hardly anything, no-way!

Please dont say your going to pay £280 for a New TV for the Wii when you have a HD-TV owen that is just fucking stupid...

You do realise that even tho the Wii is analoge its going to have a much crisper picture than the cube, ps2 and xbox right?

for example put a ps1 on a normall tv then put a ps2 on a normall tv, then tell men which one looks clearer.

I agree, it's stupid.

However i played Zelda on it last night, moved the camera around and loads of blue sqaures appeared on the screen! Why was that? I was using the red, white and yellow connector!

It didn't look pretty Caris, it didn't look pretty! :hmm:

I hope the Wii will look better on it!

One question! Will the Wii work on a rear-projection TV? It's a 42" Samsung one, my mum doesn't want me playing computer games on the main TV! Although i'm sure she'll let me use it, as she surprisingly agreed that the game didn't look right on the LCD! :D

Other then that, i'm going to buy a cheap second hand CRT! or find a much cheaper one!

A lot of problems with Gamecubes on LCD TVs may be down to the fact that it has to de-interlace the signal as it receives it from a Gamecube. If the Wii supports progressive scan this shouldn't be such a problem.

I could be totally wrong though. :heh:

pull all the leads out make sure the prts are clean and try and get a picture of these squares and post it up, sound like you have a fucked TV or some doge connections.

It boggles my mind that people buy a gamecube and an expensive TV and then use crappy 80s phono connectors like I've got for my NES to hook them together rather than splashing out £5 for an RGB cable off ebay.

Posted

Is that cable the same as just taking the AV (red, white, yellow) cables and plugging them into a scart block which then goes into your TV? I always assumed that's what they were, otherwise that's pretty cool that Nintendo sell a better cable that improves the picture.

No, it's a different type of cable altogether. I got a third party one off ebay I think it was for a fiver and the improvement in picture quality is amazing. Vibrant colours, pin-sharp and smooth as glass. I hated playing on other people's cubes after that becayse everything looked so fuzzy, washed out and anemic.

My friends refuse to admit that the RGB gives better picture quality but it's obviously better. And that's in a standard CRT. I believe that in an LCD the difference would be even bigger.

Here, check this guide for info on the many options on connecting your cube, for those of you confused:

Hi,

sorry to jump into the middle of the subject, i didnt want to make a new thread seeing as its kinda the same.

Anyway im thinking about getting this: http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=446N&SearchType=1&SearchTerms=hannsg&PageMode=3&SearchKey=All&SearchMode=All&NavigationKey=0&v=2#infoarea as its cheap and the good reviews. Is it any good? im also buying it to play my wii on as i have a 14" tv vcr combi which is crap. I know it has RGB and DVI, which one would i use to set up the wii/gamecube and pc on?....as you can tell i dont know much about monitors or anything so any help would be great.

That only has DVI and a VGA connection on it. The analogue interface section mentioning RGB is just VGA. Unless Nintendo or some third-party release a VGA adaptor (like what's available for the 360) then you wouldn't be able to connect straight to that monitor with them connections.

I think the only cables that can change to DVI with adaptors are HDMI and VGA.
