I dont want 360 to fade either, PS3 on the other hand...

Because let's face it with a Wii and a "normal" console you can have the whole package.

Ive got a feeling If I buy a 360 it will sit in the corner picking up dust. Once you go Wii you dont go back. It will feel to primitive and last gen. I'll stick with Nintendo thanks, never, ever, failed me before.

I'm getting a 360 when I find it cheap and not before, but I still like to keep my horizons open. Still and this is odd (eheh), but I have to agree with you to some extent Demuwan.

Meh, if that was the case I wouldn't be downloading VC games.

I'd get a 360 if I had the money. I don't have it though.

Iwata said that, but he wasn't talking about number of polygons or texture clarity or anything still, just the overall impression, which is still really not true but games intended for HD dont look anywhere near as good in SD, that is kind of true.

I got the oposite feeling, I got a X360 allready and I play it everyday. Before I got a XBox and X360 I allmost only played on Nintendo consoles.

hmm. dont really want any of the consoles to fade away really. all have got their merits, and im sure that if everyone wants nintendo to have to work hard to get good competitive games out on the market.

in the handheld market, nothing can be said about power having anything to do with victory. nintendo have just dominated that market. end of story.

The Wii is weaker then the 360 and the PS3, but is still a powerful piece of hardware. It can still push out great looking graphics. The Wii’s power is in between the xbox and the xbox 360. That’s a good amount of power. Nintendo is packing a lot of fire power in side a little box. All they need is some one to open the box and use it.

That someone is Retro Studios

That is what I thought initially but MP3 doesn't really show it. To be honest I was rather it was delayed so they can work on it some more. Seeing as they have been working with cube architechture. I mean do we really need Zelda and Metroid at launch thats just greedy!

well i agreed with you but then i thought about it some more

1. That wasnt the final version. When we have the telly on in our homes blowing the crap out of space pirates you will think 'thats good shit' It'll definetly match a few 360 games like the GC did

2. Metroid was nearly perfect anyway, there wasnt a lot to improve upon. Trust me retro will pull it off i guarentee

another good developer would be square enix. they seem to be pulling out the goodness on the DS - mario 3 on 3 looks sweet

i have one word to sum up the Wii and that is TRISHA.

When was the last time we heard from our doom and gloom merchant?

this leads me to think that nintendo are on the right track. weakest console or not.

Sorry I have been busy, you might have read about the worlds financial markets recently.. oh no, sorry, you wouldn't have.

As for power, well, normally at this point of a machines life we are caught in the haze of meaningless specs. ie until the machines are actually out and benchmarkable we can only use the rather useless figures the companies give. Of course Nintendo knew their figures were so pathetic they refused to even release any as no matter how they dressed them up they would have looked bad against the xbox2 (now reality and testable) and ps3 (still hype and untrustworthy) specs.

But haze in fact is what this time allows us to know the wii is underpowered. Step up FREE RADICALS and their FAQs on HAZE. Why is it not going to be on the WII? Well they say, the WII can NOT cope with it, the machine is too underpowered.

Now do not get me wrong, Nintendo has a very good chance with the WII. But its not through having a good naming policy, "WEE" is still an own goal in marketing. But Nintendo HAS ABANDONED the traditional games market it once dominated and is trying to create a new one. Yes there will be cross over games, but the reality is, the nintendo will have more cheap party games and the others will get more complicated (graphically at least) ones. The wand wont remain exclusive to the WII for long.

It should be obvious while the games will be adequate as the hardware will be good enough for virtually everything we have seen in the past, the machine will be like the gameboy platform is to a tv machine. Its games always simpler and smaller, and perhaps younger by default. Yes Nintendo says it will be different this time (it said that before with the Cube though), but games machines are aspirational when it comes to which you buy, and a machine aimed at grannies like Nintendo say the WII is, is hardly a fashion statement for the traditional mass market - but remember I said Nintendo has abandoned them. WII will get a SAGA stamp of approval and that will be as exciting to kids as a Skoda estate wall poster to a Ferrari and a naked chick.

Haze shows that the PS3&XBOX2 has moved on, and Nintendo has moved out. Not a bad idea from Nintendo as they have only admitted what I have been saying (and my comments on Nintendo Financial position was confirmed exactly by Forbes magazine at the start of the year - I linked them at the time go look) for years, i.e., Nintendo has lost the traditional machine market and needs a new niche. It can not afford to fight either Sony or MS in the "Atari" box market that they once ruled like an evil dictator. Perhaps if they had not wii'd off the likes of Namco with their nes & snes years demands they wouldn't have suffered the fate they have.

Nintendo is creating a new market, away from the others, but is anything they are doing unique? Once the controller is cloned, then the WII will just be an underpowered box to the others and no other distinguishing features other than price. Price is the $64,000 question. We saw the 3DO get slaughtered because of price, but we also saw that no matter how low the cube went sales always ended up lower than the year before, while the ps2 remained the dearest machine even though it was the least powerful. So that's no easy guess to make.

However Nintendo is making a lot of good noises at the moment, and Sony is not. That is a welcome change at least. What really matters though is the launch is not like the N64 OR CUBE ones where huge initial sales dried up as there was no follow through in supporting products for way too long.

Oh and HD is a mistake. Sales are flying for the new TV sets as the price of an "oh so fashionable" flat panel one crashes below £600. 32" hdtv lcds are cheaper than a good brand 28" crt was only 5 years ago. People can afford them, the question is can they afford them for the kids bedroom where the WII will be? The XBOX2 or PS3 is likely to be in the living room and the wii in the kids bedroom, Nintendo seem to know that, hence perhaps why they did not bother with building in the ability. It is just another thing that suggests Nintendo wants the WII to be the gameboy of the tv machines. Cheap, basic and uncomplicated (gamewise - i mean how complicated is a box with a controller!) to the powerhouses of the traditional tv machine.

I love that last line. The wii is indeed a box with a controller much like the 360 and the ps3. It should also be noted that the gameboy has had some of the best games on ANY platform.

I agree with you Trisha, a bit. I used to see it that way, but it's not really as black and white as you say.

Posted
it sure isnt black and white, but the launch is vital for them, and they have to have huge games every month after release not just at the start.

Oh you mean just like every console in existence?

It should be obvious while the games will be adequate as the hardware will be good enough for virtually everything we have seen in the past, the machine will be like the gameboy platform is to a tv machine. Its games always simpler and smaller, and perhaps younger by default.

That's bull, there's no reason why Wii can't have old fashion games. Why? Well 360 has the same kind of games that Xbox N64 and playstation had, power doesn't change that and the controller can handle pretty much anything the others can with some exceptions of course.

I agree that we won't be seeing a lot of the games other consoles have due to graphical capabilities at the beggining, but once devs start pushing the Wii a little ports will be made possible.

Nintendo is creating a new market, away from the others, but is anything they are doing unique? Once the controller is cloned, then the WII will just be an underpowered box to the others and no other distinguishing features other than price.

So basically they shouldn't do it and the idea would pop out of nowhere. And now Sony and MS have to wait a whole generation in order to have a remote controler, perhiperals won't cut it.

Oh and HD is a mistake. Sales are flying for the new TV sets as the price of an "oh so fashionable" flat panel one crashes below £600. 32" hdtv lcds are cheaper than a good brand 28" crt was only 5 years ago.

HD takes too much space, time money and resources out of both the hardware and staff. 360 will suffer immensely from disk space issues for example. In order to have HD the Wii would need a much more powerful processor, bigger bandwidth, memory and much better gpu. The difference would rack up the price a lot. Development costs would rise a lot too.

In order to make this revolution some things had to be abandoned, because at 400$ new people wouldn't pick up a console that interests them if they're not into gaming. One things is for sure though, for gamers having two consoles right now is the way to go.

Posted

Small thing to note but HD alone does not make dev costs go up. The ps3 and 360 are more complex to develope for due to the hardware that pushes the HD content. It would be no different if they were limited to 480p.

Lost planet, Dead rising, gears of war, mass effect, oblivion and graw don't look to primative to me.

I don't know.I made the mistake of buying an xbox when i alreday had a ps2.The consoles are so similiar. At least with nintendo the consoles can be different

the 360 looks better than the original already though. If i bought a ps3 it would pick up dust hence causing massive damage to the console

I'm only getting a 360 and a wii I think i'm gonna wait 2-3 years for ps3 when it's cheaper and the big games like assasins creed, metal gear, final fantasty and devil may cry are out. But in all honesty i think that all the next gen consles are going to be amasing in their own ways
