Shinto Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Can someone please help change my computer's IP address. I need to change it because I had it on a piece of paper and cant find it. I don't want someone running around with my IP address. I think I have a dynamic IP address I dunno. It's from my ISP which is Earthlink. Anyone know anything thanks cheers.
Bogbas Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 If you have a dynamic ip then it is enough that you unplug your broadband for a while. Or if you're on nat it doesn't matter, your actual ip will only show to the isp. And don't worry about the ip, it already shows to anyone who would be interested in it when you're online. And if your ip is dynamic, the ip that you had in paper can already be someone else's pc.
Charlie Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 If you get your IP address from your ISP and its static you can't change it. If it's dynamic reconnect and you'll get anew one. Start / Run / cmd / ipconfig That should tell you everything about your IP.
Sonic238 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 now don't panic. nobody can do something only with your ip to you. unless you're running iis, netbios, sql or other certain stuff. i know that.
Jon Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Don't worry, no one is gonna go about stealing your isp address. You can check it here
mario114 Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 The forum here probaly has all it's users ip's stored for admin to view, so it can block ip's rather than users, (well a least xorbit does).

Shinto Posted February 23, 2006 Author Posted February 23, 2006 Thanks for the help guys, I guess I got a static IP cause it doesn't change. I tried the CMD ipconfig / and it didn't give me a new one.
