Julius Posted March 11 Posted March 11 (edited) Sorry, but I have zero idea where this should be put, especially with as little info as they've given, but it's something I want to recognise somewhere and so here's a thread for it To commemorate Chrono Trigger's 30th anniversary today in Japan, the official Square Enix JP Twitter account posted this: Quote Today marks the 30th anniversary of the release of "Chrono Trigger" in 1995. This timeless masterpiece that transcends generations and is still talked about today was born from a dream project by Yuji Horii of "Dragon Quest," Akira Toriyama of "Dragon Ball," and Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of "Final Fantasy." As we mark the 30th anniversary, we will be launching various projects that go beyond the world of the game over the next year to express our gratitude to everyone who has played Chrono Trigger so far. The latest information will be posted on Square Enix Official X and @ChronoTriggerPR, so please look forward to it. This could be a lot of things, or a lot of nothing. It's Square Enix, so get ready for that monkey's paw to curl! Yeah, yeah, okay, let's be realistic first up: I imagine there'll be [Japan-only] concerts. Probably some merch. Maybe an anime or something. A stage play. A mobile game. I don't know, that's what Suikoden did sooooooo I think we should finally see a port of Chrono Trigger come to consoles at long last this year. It's long, long, long overdue at this point. I seriously have no idea why it's taken so long. The Steam version released in like 2018 is functional enough to just bring over virtually as-is, I feel like. On the outskirts of my mind, I do think there's a very, very, small, tiny chance at a HD-2D Remake announcement following the completion of the Erdrick Trilogy HD-2D Remakes after DQ I & II HD-2D release later this year. It really depends on how much Square Enix want to charge for it, but I just can't see them lazily porting it over for, say, £15 and being done with it when they could make so much more with a HD-2D Remake. Anyways, yeah, guess we'll need to wait and see! More importantly: happy 30th, Chrono Trigger! Truly one of the greats Edited March 11 by Julius 2
Dcubed Posted March 11 Posted March 11 I expect nothing. A smart company would let Team Asano do a HD-2D Remake, but S-E is not a smart company... 2
Hero-of-Time Posted March 11 Posted March 11 It annoys and baffles me so much that Chrono Trigger isn't on modern consoles in some form. I'd even take a simple port of it. 1
WackerJr Posted Wednesday at 09:57 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:57 PM That they haven’t made any reference to games makes me skeptical, no matter how much I’d love to see some from of remake or update. I can see there being some sort of concert or a set of Chrono Trigger tracks within another concert, as the music is great. Saying that, I’ve almost finished my first ever playthrough and, like others, I can’t believe this has been sitting idle while other lesser RPGs get re-releases, it’s fantastic. It’s aged a little, but still plays well today. A few QoL improvements, as well as graphical updates is all it really needs for me. 3
The Bard Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Chrono Trigger is a perfect, self contained game. I'll take a concert, some events or a "making of" video etc. Don't particularly care for a sequel from S-E though. Especially when there are games like Sea of Stars, Threads of Time and other Noun preposition Noun games. Studios have taken up that baton and are running with it. But I don't think anything is ever going to match up to CT. 1
