Due later this year, the game will make its debut in just two weeks time at the Japan Amusement Expo. GP DX looks to be standard Mario Kart fare, and appears to include some of the franchise's newer concepts, including the glider mechanics first introduced in Mario Kart 7 for the 3DS. The game also appears to include some sort of camera system to display racer's faces in various ways. According to translations provided by members of NeoGAF, other modes listed by Namco Bandai include a single-player Grand Prix mode, two-player Co-op, "Clone Battle" mode and a competitive mode, which will support up to four players. Could latest iteration of the Mario Kart arcade series (the third, to be precise) hitting this year also be a signal that Namco Bandai is working on Mario Kart for Wii U? Nintendo certainly is pursuing more partnerships these days (see, well, Namco Bandai leading development on Super Smash Bros.). Either way, we won't have to wait long to find out. Mario Kart is due to debut in playable form for the home console at E3 2013. Think there are any clues here as to Mario Kart Wii U? I think it's very likely that like Tank Tank Tank! you will able to take a picture of yourself with the Gamepad and put it above your racer. Also yeah, I guess Namco could be helping out on the home console version too, especially as I imagine Nintendo are more keen than ever to get help with their games to get them to market! Magnus Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Hooray, another Mario Kart that most of us will never get a chance to play. Good for the Japanese, though, I guess. Though someone said in another thread recently that the arcade Mario Kart games were terrible, so maybe not.
Shorty Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 They were awful, didn't deserve the Mario Kart name. They had it in the bowling alley in Sheffield. Hope they get it right this time.
Magnus Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I hope they don't, because I'll never get to play this anyway. :p
Retro_Link Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 Anyone know what exactly Namco do when it comes to these Arcade Mario Karts?... is it basically them developing the game for Nintendo?... If so then they must be building up quite a bit of Mario Kart knowledge. I wouldn't be surprised if they are involved with Mario Kart Wii U to some extent to get development times down.
Rummy Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Personally I've only played on them once or twice, but I'm not big on the arcade front anyhow. Iirc I didn't feel too mario karty at the time, but it's interesting to see them updating them inline with the newer versions(did wonder if 'New' Mario Kart Arcade was going to be the actual name :p) - speculation as to Namco devving the next MK isn't too far out, they're helping with smash after all?

It would be a nice addition if they included the arcade tracks in the Mario Kart U in some form, though.. perhaps as extra cups to unlock beyond the usual Mario Kart suspects
Retro_Link Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 Anyone know what's going on in the 3rd screen? Looks kind of tank like. Is the player looking backwards and firing, because there's a No.1 on view which you'd think would be at the front. I wonder if in Mario Kart Wii U it would be possible to use the game pad to 'touch and lock-on' to the racer you want to target your weapon at. And switch to a rear view camera to do the same to someone behind you?
