Platty Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Great thread. A year can bring lots of different ups and downs, I've had quite a busy one work wise but a good one up to end of November when everything went to shit. Some highlights from me from the year: I've lived most of this year between London and Belfast which has been incredible. Had lots of highs in Belfast Seeing the Belfast Giants Ice Hockey team win the league and being there cheering them on in March Seeing one of my favourite bands, The Maccabees play a small gig in a pub in Belfast Latitude festival in July, despite the mud it was brilliant Going to the Paralympics and seeing GB pick up a few golds. Amazing. being an usher at one of my best friends Wedding in August Then the end of November and the end of my 7 year relationship with my girlfriend. Cheated on me and left me. Heart breaking. Crap Xmas cos of the above 2013 new start.

Jim Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 A year of ups and downs really, probably more downs but hey.. you get that. - The big negative was losing the girl I thought I would spend the rest of my life with. 5 and a half years down the drain, and it was definitely not a mutual decision, messy... But that's a story for another day I guess. - About 2 weeks after that I also lost my job. They did a real number on me. At the start of the year they had promised me full-time in a few weeks, which dragged on to months, and more months (i was doing full time hours, and more.. without the benefits).. and then I was eventually let go due to downsizing. Not full-time = no redundancy. I was at a serious low point there. To make matters worse I had just moved out of my parents place (again) so I could live closer to work, so on top of everything that was going on I also had some pretty severe financial stress. That all went down in July.. since then things have picked up, but it would have been quite hard for them to get worse I suppose! + Scored a new job after only 3 weeks of unemployment. + Met some amazing people at that job, a few of whom I consider to be good friends now. + Got a full-time position as a follow on through that job, which was a much-needed ego-boost.. Obviously I did something right! + Really loving where I moved out to. So close to the city, and friends.. and my housemate (a long-term mate who owns this apartment) is great to live with. + Have become really good mates with a guy who lives nearby, who I was only sort of friends with before I moved here. + Completed my 2012 new years resolution of getting fit! Playing heaps of sport again.. which has always been my number 1 hobby, that I kind of lost sight of for a few years. So yeah, ups and downs like I said. It's hard to remember it for anything else than that one particular big negative though. It's definitely been the most 'busiest' year of my 28 year life so far. I've learnt so much about myself, and plenty else... I still don't understand girls though Great thread. A year can bring lots of different ups and downs, I've had quite a busy one work wise but a good one up to end of November when everything went to shit. Some highlights from me from the year:... Crap Xmas cos of the above Yep, I know that feel... Never felt so unexcited about a Christmas ever I don't think. Xmas was a huge thing for my ex's family. It was always an over the top day, which I loved. Really, really missed that this year =/ (well, last year.. you know what i mean :P)
Eenuh Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 The start of last year was a very good one for me, after that it has sort of slowed down, and this year seems to be off to a kind of shitty start but we'll see. 2012: Found a flat in Bournemouth at the start of the year, signed for it and went back to Belgium. Got my driver's license in February (finally at the age of 27!). Took care of all the paperwork etc for the big move. Moved to the UK in March. Found my first ever full-time job in April after 1.5 months of unemployment/freelance stuff (which I enjoyed doing but it did not earn me enough). Spent the first two months in my job hating it as it was working in a call centre, but around June I managed to get switched to the email team, which I now enjoy more (nicer people too)! Crappy part: 5 car repairs since we got our car in August. Nothing noteworthy happened for a while, then my sister got engaged in November when my entire family came over to visit here. And now 2013 has started and I have been told I will probably lose my job in two months (instead of the 6 they said at first), so hooray. Back to square one. =P

Back to square one. =P If you need money, I'll buy some more cards :p 2012 was pretty good. I started working in the 'real Air Traffic Control world', so no more simulations, I moved to a new place/town for work and I have been (still am) madly in love with my girlfriend even though our relationship had a few hiccups
Guy Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 2012 was alright. More positives than negatives for sure. My only regret is I didn't focus on drawing as much as I'd have liked and my savings remain non-existent. My goals for 2013 are to draw more regularly and conserve more money.
